Learning to quilt at 17! Hope is not lost for the future! I found this pattern on a family heirloom quilt and was dying to try it out for a first quilt! Thanks for the clear instructions!
Jenny is my favorite of the many tutorial teachers. Always clear and to the point. No chit chat between steps. The Ohio Star is a favorite. I’ve made potholders and trivets! Now ready to make a throw! Jenny, you’re the best. I also enjoy the triple videos with Misty, you and Natalie.
Simple uncluttered explanation and demonstration. Not a lot of hand movement in the video (that can be distracting and difficult to watch). One of the best quilting videos I’ve watched.
I made a small quilt using Ohio Star pattern 20 years ago. The quilt has been used and used to the point that it is worn out. I've been wanting to make this same quilt again and this tutuorial is fantastic so much easier than the original way that I first used. Thank you Jenny for so generously sharing your wealth of knowledge, I love your tutorials and have make so many quilts just by following your quick and easy methods of cutting and piecing. Cheers Toni
I have to make a couple of baby quilts and plan on this pattern using cute fabric for the occasion. Thanks Jenny for helping me with my decision. I was at a standstill until I saw your tutorial.
Jenny, your a great instructor and have a good speaking voice. You were made for this. You are very pleasant and I appreciate your tutorials! Thank you.
I enjoyed making this Ohio Star quilt. The tutorial was so helpful for the blocks, quick and easy. After making top, I then hand quilted my pattern and sashes. Thank you
Thanks once again for your help. Love the way you make things easier for us seniors. You truly are a blessing. God bless you and your family and staff. Love and hugs.
+seedstitch13 You like the white background? We find it's a great way to really showcase the block, especially when we're teaching it on TH-cam! :) Thank you for your comment!
Thanks Jenny! My list is so long...This fabric has been on my wish list for months. It's so beautiful in this Ohio Star. You are just the best!!! Love the longer tutorials too.
Many thanks to Missouri Star Quilt CO. Jenny has by far the best instructional videos on the net. I am so grateful to have them available. There is one thing I would add. I wish that Jenny would state plainly at the beginning of the video what the size of the finished block is going to be.
Thank you for the wonderful video. Have always wanted to make this quilt and now that you have made it simple. I WILL DO IT!!! And remember that little bit of "waste" will be great for paper piecing!! No waste at my house!
I love this block, getting ready to make a quilt from it for our daughter whose home is in Ohio.....WOW, talk about timely tutorials Jenny....doing my happy dance after watching your amazing and easy way to make this block! 🙌 Thanks again for another GREAT lesson. 👏👏
Gorgeous! Jenny, you're so right. Because I'm a perfectionist, often times I can't finish my projects because I feel they aren't perfect and it gives me a mental block, so I have learned over the years that finished really is better than perfect.
Always loved this pattern. Thanks for making the tutorial for us. Love to watch them. And I watch them while I make them too. That way I don't screw them up.
When you have the 1" strips left from the Ohio Star quilt middle squares, sew them together to make what I call "Matchsticks" for borders. Just love these videos. It doesn't take long to make full size quilt tops with you.
Jenny, This is my very first quilt. I just finished it and sent to my friend to be quilted. Thank you for giving me the confidence to do this. You are such an inspiration and a blessing to all want to be quilters.
This is my most favorite traditional pattern. I love it with the more modern fabrics as well. Jenny explains things so clearly, and ads so much fun and zip to every video! I'm a big fan!!
Thank you for another great video. Every Friday when I wake up I check the daily deal then watch your video. Thank you for sharing your wonderful gift of quilting with us.
I adore this wonderful pattern! I have many "pairs" of matching charm packs, bought with no particular quilt pattern in mind. If I used something else for the centre squares (maybe the border fabric, or 2-3 complimentary colour FQ's), I could get away with only 2 matching charm packs because there are exactly 42 blocks, needing 42 pairs of charms. Terrific idea. Thanks MSQC!!
I tried just the star block based on your tutorial - and what can i say, came out so lovely, i am forever grateful for all the knowledge the team shares with us! thank you thank you thank you so much!
Thank you Jenny for your tutorials, I am knew to quilting and having watched several of your tutorials I have ordered the materials and I am feeling confident enough to start the ohio star quilt thanks to you. Your Tutorials are wonderful xxxx (from Jane in Scotland) xxxx
Thank you so much for your tutorials they are so easy to follow and you explain everything so well. I made my first ever quilt this quilt, the Ohio Star and it came together like a dream! I can't wait to start another one in a different design.
I used 6 charm packs background fabric plus one jelly roll for the 11 inch Strips, and 4 charm packs Regent street flowers. Working now on the outside Border.
This is so cute! DD just finished an Ohio Star, alternating with background blocks because she is a beginner, her first quilt, we wanted to make it less daunting! Love the fabrics you used.
really happy you showed how to square up the blocks, i wish that was on every tutorial cause my blocks NEVER come out perfect and it would be nice to know what to square them up to, love your videos, thank you :-)
I love this quilt Jenny, the fabric looks so soft, fresh and just makes this quilt really special. I love the border fabric really ties all those beautiful colors together. I also thought this was a very helpful tutorial on constructing this block. Thanks for all you do, Love your personality, your such a treat to watch. :)
+Missouri Star Quilt Company LOL I am simply making a note for me here, for cornerstones. I have a mini pack that I bought by mistake and I can use it with the charms to match.. need 56 pieces.
Hi Jenny and thanks a lot for another great tutorial of another gorgeous quilt! You’re an excellent teacher! I like that you take the time to show us all the little steps. As a beginner, they help me greatly! Have a great day! 😎🌸
Born and raised in Ohio!!! I’ve always loved this star but was a little intimidated by it. Not any more! Thank you so much! I loved the line about a ruler that makes sense to your brain!!! I thought I was the only one who had trouble with certain rulers!!!! And then you said - finished is better than perfect, so true and hilarious!!!!
The second you trimmed that perfect five inch charm pack for the center of your Ohio star block I gasped! How funny is it that you said at the exact time that this was the only part that bothered you, the waste! Too funny!
"...you're gonna want to get a ruler that makes sense to your brain." I LOVE IT! Jenny, you're the best. Just finished trying to square some blocks with a ruler that didn't make sense to my brain. Sure wish I had yours.
thanks and tons of thanks I live in Colombia S.A. far way from you :( but I always see yours videos !!!! they make my day always, I love it, you can't imagine how important are in my life, thanks from the bottom of my heart (sorry for my English, I try to do my best)
Could you use a ten inch square sewn all around to get the hourglass pieces? I know it will change the block size....but will it work? I just love Jenny's technique for making the triangles/flying geese.
love, this one, your so easy to follow, BTW, I had the honor to meet you at the Pasadena, CA quilt event. I even took a picture with you! you probably don't remember me, that's ok. I was happy and I thank you!
Sorry Jenny, I 'cheat' (at least I feel I'm cheating)..I bought an accuquilt a few months ago and they have the Ohio die....one pass under the roller and the whole block is cut out! I still love watching and learning all the tricks from you though!
Gorgeous, as usual :) Please tell me how, other than being a professional organization, HOW you managed to keep that Huge quilt so FLAT and un-puckered ?! Besides the beautiful fabrics, it's just simply a beautifully done quilt. Thanks so much Jenny for you and your videos ~ and your store of course :)
+Stephanie Pack Just make sure you're not pulling or tugging on your fabrics as you run it through the machine! It also helps to alternate which direction you're going as you sew your rows together :) Good luck!
I love that Jenny! Question....how big is this quilt and is there a tutorial (or could you make one) on how to make a pattern you are using, bigger? Sometimes some of the tutorials you show I would like to make queen size but I don't know how to figure how much extra yardage to buy...and I am not always sure about how many more blocks to make. You are awesome....and if anyone can help us figure it out, it would be YOU!
Sheila, this quilt ends up being 88" by 101". This is pretty close to a queen sized quilt. Thanks for the tip and you might find it helpful to click on this link below to see sizing that we follow. blog.missouriquiltco.com/?s=What+can+they+make%3F
making a baby quilt using this. first block done to make sure i could do it and as usual Jenny made it so easy! my daughter was born in Ohio and now she is pregnant with her first baby, a little girl. wondering if there is a south carolina star since she will be born here.....time to Google lol.
Love the Ohio Star tutorial...tyty Jenny...will be making this one soon...could you tell me the yardage for the backing please.? Would it be about 6 yds? thanks in advance

Ah, Alternate! I try to remember that, but usually get mixed up when sewing and give up. Thanks for the reminder ;) I will try harder.
What stitch length do most quilters use. Getting ready to do this as my first large quilt. Living in Ohio I just love this block.
This is so neat because I live in Ohio. I was wondering if there is one for Kentucky I am from there.
Jenny,
Can you teach us how to make this star? You are my favorite teacher.
Sherry
I love that Jenny! Question....how big is this quilt and is there a tutorial (or could you make one) on how to make a pattern you are using, bigger? Hi, please check the instructions in the beginning. The pattern shows that how big the quilt is. Enjoy quilting.
Sheila, this quilt ends up being 88" by 101". This is pretty close to a queen sized quilt. Thanks for the tip and you might find it helpful to click on this link below to see sizing that we follow.

Love the Ohio Star tutorial...tyty Jenny...will be making this one soon...could you tell me the yardage for the backing please.? Would it be about 6 yds? thanks in advance
Awesome. You make it look so much easier May I ask what ruler you use to square up?
