While I can't say that I agree with your evaluation of the best to "not", I certainly appreciate the fact that we have something very unique in an HBCU band. Thank you for providing coverage of our future leaders from all over the country as I would not have ever seen some of the bands. Keep up the good work.
I loved music all my life! And marching bands have always had a special place I my heart. As a young adult college wasn’t as important to me as it should of been right after high school. The career I have now seemed intimidating and difficult at the time, so I decided to live life instead (for a minute). I know we should not see ALL our choices as failures and I don’t….but I do wish I would of made more of an effort to attend an HBCU after high school or maybe even community college. The experiences, friendships, life skills, and personal development I know would of help me to be more confident back then. I hope to encourage my sone to attend one…maybe I can live through him a little during football and basketball game attendances.
This isn't fair! 😂 I didn't attend an HBCU, but I look forward to Homecoming season every year just to watch the bands. Observing the HBCU tradition makes my heart happy!!! I ❤ US!!
I glad that you put the Human jukebox and the Dancing Dolls in the #1 spot. rather people like it or not they always been #1. Not being bias, it's that its true. I will say this, love that all these schools have such a mucical program for our young adults so "I love them all."

All bands that were showcased were very good! Congratulations to all of you. Much love to the school that I dearly love, Southern University Jaguars, and the band that I listen to each week throughout the year, the awesome Human Jukebox! Geaux JAGS!

I appreciate the love shown to these programs, although im conflicted. It often seems like people outside the HBCU band culture do these projects without consulting bandheads/band participants, even in this case where the rankings themselves are RESPECTABLE, the problem comes in presentation. No bandhead would rank based on clips from years ago, as these bands evolve and change year to year. At least clarify which years you're observing when compiling a list like this. Other than that, great work and thank you for showing these young musicians so much love and appreciation 💪🏾

Southern University should not be number one without having a steel Precision drill to exhibit for the top 10 marching bands. Any bandwidth 350 members can sit in the stand and give tremendous sound, they do not have a all-around show to be classified as number one
Forgive him. He has not seen the precision marching and balanced field sound of the Human Jukebox. Nor has he seen the only band in the land that creates the halftime score. I love the NCAT Aggies, but you would've been better off pointing out the difference between NCAT and the other HBCU bands is the fact that NCAT is an HBCU Corps style marching band. They march on the ball of their heels while playing and keeping their instruments pointed directly at the audience. NCAT also uses props on the field. All Corp's style. All the things you wrote aren't unique. The majority of our HBCU bands have good showmanship, drills/transitions, and sound, so none of the things you mentioned separates NCAT from the rest, but Corp's definitely a difference that separates. Sometimes folks just see a name or brand and will chalk them up as top 3 no questions asked even if the show,5th or etc was 💩.
My rankings I split into 4 categories each weighted differently and total them up((creative halftime concepts/ SOUND(50%), stands(25%), auxiliary(15%), fresh content & song selection(10%))
HALFTIME YOU CAN BASICALLY FLIP THE LIST UPSIDE DOWN.
(DRUM MAJOR ENTRANCE, DRILL,MAJORETTE FT, BALLAD,DANCE ROUTINE, MC OF THE SHOW ) TOP 5 NO ORDER ARE
-BETHUNE COOKMAN
-FAMU
-TENNESSEE STATE
-NORFOLK
-NCAT
THESE ARE THE BANDS THAT TAKE HALFTIME SUPER SERIOUS, SONG SELECTION IS GREAT, DRILLS ARE UNIQUE,THE BALLADS ARE SOMETIME SHOWSTOPPERS AND DANCE ROUTINE ARE THE MOST CREATIVE AND PETTY😁(MY FAVORITE)
NOW FOR THE STANDS (ZERO,DURING THE GAME AND 5TH QTR) my 5 are
-Southern
-Jackson state
-Texas Southern
-Tennessee State
- Alabama state
If any of these 5 bands plays your songs in the zero or 5th expect it to be emaculate. These bands are the most versatile with their books that include heavy mid 00s to new school rap/ rnb tunes, 90s new jack swing, 80 ballads and 70s soul tracks. With the occasional out of the box tv/ movie themes.
Now for auxiliary(dont really understand the terminology or if the counts as they call them really fits the songs to a tee. But as far as groups that stand out the top 5(no order) are
-alabama state
-southern
Jackson state
-norfolk state
-NCAT
These 5 groups have the game lock down in auxiliary and 3 outta the 5 have more than one group and ft them heavy in thier shows which add style points for me.
As far and new content I will not include a florida school in this top 5😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 but seriously a updated book is needed. The top 5 for this is
-texas southern
-southern
Jackson state
-Tennessee state
-Ncat
It seems everywhere week these school have a newer rap song, ballad, drill or 5th qtr song selection lineup. Thesse are the bands I usually go to first every other week to compare if they gotten better or worse over the season or what arrangement they pulled out of nowhere before any others and they rarely disappoint.
My true top 10 list is
1)Southern
2)Tennessee State
3)NCAT
4)Jackson State
5)Texas Southern
6)Famu
7)Norfolk state
8)Alabama State

10)Kentucky State
HM 1) Grambling State
HM 2) Alcorn State
