The Southern University "Human Jukebox" band squares up against the Jackson State University "Sonic Boom of the South" for a highly anticipated battle of the bands a night before an equally anticipated annual football game between this heated rivalry. I love "Battle of the Bands". I've seen Grambling University vs Texas Southern, at the Cotton Bowl [ during the State Fair of Texas ].
WOW! Now, that was a battle of all battles! Better than the Bayou Classic. This battle was more intense, and neither band wanted to give up. I truly enjoyed every second of it. Both bands started battling hard in the beginning. That set the tone. It was AMAZING! Southern ended it strong by playing "Hustler Musik". Man that song cold as phuck! SU and JSU, definitely the top 2 SWAC bands IMO. Both bands Rock!

The LEGENDARY "BoomBox" classic BOTB 2014 was a historic battle IMO! JSU and SU both were out for blood! Both bands started out playing, at the same time, and they went straight "HAM" @0:23:00 mark. Simply AMAZING! WHAT AN EPIC BATTLE!!!!
I concluded they had better dancers because I've seen both bands in person several times and in my opinion jsu has better dancers

First, I wanna say GOOD JOB to BOTH bands and directors for an outstanding session of rivalry crankage. Secondly, the Dancing Dolls of Southern University looks absolutely astonishing in those cheetah/jaguar outfits, and in comparison to the Prancing J-Settes (forgive me if I misspelled), the Dancing Dolls look better because of the overall decorum. Lastly, my favorite song of the entire battle was played by Southern. I don't know the name of the tune but it starts around 1:15:08 in the clip. I like the arrangement, but I love the intensity that the Jukebox puts into the piece.
I can't say much for the Prancing J-Settes cause the filmer kept focusing on the band but spent all the time filming the Dancing Dolls. So kind of unfair to judge routines when only seeing so little of one side
SU is savage for playing over them. I love SU with ALL my heart.
I grew up loving Alcorn SOD. JSU "Sonic Boom" has become my favorite but if I needed to go into a game, parade, or BOTB with any HBCU it's got to be the Human Jukebox they are just stronger than everyone else. The sound is so clear and powerful.
I agree 100%. Southern such a powerful band, and their arrangements cold as fuck. Arrangements, can either make or break a band.

Great battles took place between these two great Super Powers back when Dr. Laurence Jackson was Director of Bands at SU. This 2014 class was a special year for the Jukes, but I like the enthusiasm shown by Da BOOM when Travis took the podium...he and i shared great conversation prior to that moment... SU and Thee I love too! 💙💛💙🏆💪🏾💙🤍💙🙏🏽
This was a very intense battle, hard to be bias or even think about saying one murdered the other because that's not the case...I'm an Alcorn/JSU fan...bad match-up but true, but in this case, I'll say Southern takes the "W", barely...bt JSU took the game #myopinion
