But are the awards his legacy, or is it the work? And if it’s the latter, isn’t it really relegated to what he did from ‘62-‘67? Tolstoy never won a Nobel. Ginsberg never won a Pulitzer. Ellington never won an Oscar. The Grammys have only been *around* since 1959. The legend comes from the work. The awards are strictly television.
I agree. He cuts to the chase on this one. He packs all his pet peeves in tight. People ARE crazy and not in a fun way, they buckle under. Get locked in, get outta sight! But stay in the Groove, baby! ♡♡♡
Well when there is gladiator sound track of course you'd be surprised if you are the winner. Not saying song was bad or something but gladiator was defo rubbed.
Well.....it's the Oscars not the" music world".....and his acceptance was 14 hours prior I believe. Live..... YES... he would have gotten one I'm sure of that. JWG
The fact that 2:25 got such a laugh shows you how massive Survivor was at that time. That would barely get a chuckle now, and of course would mean something totally different.
One of only 2 people ever to win both an Oscar AND a Nobel Prize (George Bernard Shaw being the only other, winning Literature Nobel in 1925 and an Adapted Screenplay Oscar for PYGMALION (1938)). Amazing feat indeed!
I think Bjork should have won the Oscar that year. She's an amazing singer and songwriter. Also, I would nominate Madonna and her brilliant song Time Stood Still (from The Next Best Thing). Yes, the movie was weak but its soundtrack was fantastic and so emotional Same with LeAnn Rimes' Can't Fight the Moonlight (theme from Coyote Ugly).
Bjork? Over Dylan? HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHABAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA..cough.. cough...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!
I do like My Funny Friend And Me but I think this should've been nominated and won: From Rugrats In Paris: The Movie I Want A Mom That Will Last Forever Music and Lyrics by Mark Mothersbaugh and Cyndi Lauper
Same here. I think it may be that campaigning regulations allow studios to send music branch members CDs of Original Song submissions so that they don't have to watch the actual films while voting on nominations may have hurt its chances because they missed why the song is so important in context (let's face it, Academy members were less likely to watch Rugrats in Paris as a whole than Wonder Boys, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, or even The Emperor's New Groove). Also I can't really begrudge the win for "Things Have Changed". And, on the "Rugrats in Paris" topic, "When You Love" from the same film, while not the better song than "I Want a Mom", does more fit the Oscar-bait-soundtrack-ballad category and excels at that, being a little more upbeat than most in that genre, boasting gorgeous vocals from Sinéad O'Connor, and actually finding a meaningful context bookending the film unlike most such songs that just get shoved to the end credits. Oh, and what really makes the what-ifs for Rugrats in Paris interesting is that Cyndi Lauper now only needs an Oscar to complete her EGOT.
@@poohgaze2338 And I think this song should’ve been nominated: “Your Heart Will Lead You Home” from The Tigger Movie. Music and Lyrics By Kenny Loggins, Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman
lmao I came to watch Bob Dylan accept the award but Steve Martin running dip out to Danny Devito who had celery ready to go was better than anything I could have imagined
He speaks a lost when he receives a reward. But when explaining his music and his connection with peope he is not interest in that. He has an egothic personality
They were all good candidates. That’s why they were all nominated. And you’ll get a lot of different opinions on the “best,” which is all well and good. I liked Dylan’s song the best. Besides its spooky driving beat and a sound that is Dylan’s very own - honky took Americana performed by great musicians feeding off each other - the lyrics were Dylanesque in the best sense. “Don’t turn a blind eye to human nature” indeed. I do not belittle Sting and Björk by any means. Both are singular artists.
One of the nominees should have been Joe Henry for 'Some Things Never Leave You' from "Thomas and the Magic Railroad." 🎶🚂🚃🚃 Either him or Dayna Manning for 'I Know How The Moon Must Feel' also from "Thomas."
Bob Dylan, the only person in the world with a Nobel, a Oscar, a Prince of Asturias, ten Grammy and a Pulitzer.
LEGEND
also golden globe & The Presidential Medal of Freedom

WOW.....period
What was Pulitzer for?
Bob Dylan has to be the coolest guy in the world. What a legend.
righta man, for All along the watchtower
Absolutely 💯 ❤!!!!!
I absolutely love "Things Have Changed," it's phenomenal. Bob Dylan is a class act and one of the greatest songwriters who ever lived.
Agree
you right man. pick of his! songs maybe.
A worried man with a worried mind absolutely love the intros to the song
I never heard Dylan speak for so long and so coherently
He's a longtime movie buff, so this was not the time to not be straight up, he loved getting an Oscar.
He was terrified of the Australian mob he was about to face.
So good he got chosen for this superb song.. I love it🎶🌹🌺❣️
One of the greatest Dylan songs ever. read the lyrics and your mind is completely blown.

I have been a fan of Bob Dylan since my early 20's. I'm now in my 70's and I'm still one of his many fans! God bless you Mr. Dylan
Ditto Mary!!! No need to listen to anyone else when there's Bob! Legend
Lol I love how his eyebrow raised as soon as his name was read.

Of course you, you beautiful bastard.

*LONG LIVE BOB DYLAN!*
Bob Dylan has attempted to define the indefinable for 5 decades now. We owe him much!!
The look on his face when he won said it all. Totally deserved.
So very well deserved Congratulation's to you Bob.
Dylan is a genius. Great speech . Love Dylan and Great talent
Oscar and Nobel Prize Winner ^^
Look how pleased the Coen brothers are when he won. Probably because they are Jewish Minnesotan guys too, and big fans.
And also because Frances McDormand (Joel's wife) starred in Wonder Boys, from where the song is.
Love Bob Dylan! Not bad for a kid from Minnesota.
His last album was touched by Grace!
God Bless Bob Dylan!
Good song, good film.
No standing ovation for the master?
Insulting!!

both eminem and bob won their oscars for curtis hanson's movie. rip man, u were one helluva encouraging soul
Definitely a Winner; The Amazing Bob Dylan ❤❤❤
What a great guy Mr Bob Dylan 👍🏴😄🎶
Such a shame that Bjork was not awarded Best actress and Best song when she was clearly the best in both categories.
God Willing this is the last time Jennifer lopez & Bob Dylan will ever be mentioned again in the same sentence.
octoman511 totally agree
Why what happened?!!???
May the Lord bless you and keep you, Bob Allen; we all love you ❤❤❤
the orchestra playing- next level amazing - do the oscars put it up anywhere?
This was an act by Dylan, just giving the most routine cliched speech when you least expect him too😂 What a guy!

Mr. Dylan"s looking very young tonight.

Bjork's bad luck to be nominated the same year as Dylan. There was no way he wasn't winning.
I agree,
the moment I found out he was in the running,
you know he gets the sympathy count.
It's bullshit.
And Sting
Yeah it's real bad luck to be up against the best songwriter in modern history.
Still sad that My Funny Friend and Me didn't get it
Academy Award nominee Lars von Trier. XD

He didn’t even show up for the Oscar. He was on tour in Australia.
I'm calling bullshit. That was The Emperor's New Groove's Oscar! Sting was fucking robbed.
