Buddy Holly was a massive massive talent. To hear Dylan say he was several feet from him and Holly looked down at him. It could easily be some crazy story of transmitting his soul to Dylan. crazy stuff.
Patti has that great story about her 1966 year in high school. Waiting for the Dylan album he was doing to get released. Went to New York several times.. and finally it did come out. And she got one of the first albums for sale. SHE LOVED THE SCARF. And the extra vinyl.. the double album called Blonde On Blonde. She's toured with him. She accepted the Nobel Prize for him.. before the 9 months it took Dylan to decide for himself if "he deserved it". Dylan's story is the MOST AMERICAN LIFE that's ever been lived. He's never done anything for money except his music. Who else among us can say that. Maybe handicapper Craig Donnelly.. who never did anything but pick winners his whole adult life. But Donnelly doesn't play guitar.. or wear striped pants.. like Dylan the bandleader.
His Strat. His suit. His boots were all a nod to Buddy Holly. The trained eye will see even his movements were channeling Buddy Holly. Brilliantly executed lead too. Probably the best I’ve ever heard Bob play.
revisited this award and it comes to mind, this really was a place in time that signified that, "Bob" still had it and his subsequent works, proves it again and again ...tanks for sharing
I specifically searched out this video just to hear that story again. First time I heard it was when this award show was televised. Blew me away how a sort of seed was planted, from Buddy to Bob.
yeah, the show Bob attended was the Winter Dance Party's second to last concert. Jan 31 Duluth, Mn , Feb 1 Green Bay, Wi, Feb 2 Clear Lake, Iowa. The fatal plane crash was February 3rd
Glad bill won this time. 👏 You may call me Terry, you may call me Timmy You may call me Bobby, you may call me Zimmy You may call me R.J., you may call me Ray You may call me anything but no matter what you say. Well how about bill
The man has got the mojo. Does Dylan go down as the only person to ever mention Robert Johnson at the Grammys, and not only that, but to quote one of his most hard ass lines?
So many of the recent gen’s have no clue about history. Let alone musical history. Usher had a lean of arrogance about him and not a clue of the greatness he was feet away from. Well done Bill Dylan quoting the best Blues guitarist for all time. Lol
Bob got quite a standing ovation for this. Absolutely incredible. Thirty five years after Blowin in the Wind. Just wow To be this deep into his career and win Album of the Year…..
@@donkeygospel6 Usher looked like such a drop kick here. Glad 'his man' didn't win and a legend got the win he deserved. Usher may have forgot Dylan's first name, but the irony is, Usher will be the one who'll be forgotten in the decades to come.
Love Dylan. Love Lanois. Love this album. My favourite track: Not Dark Yet. I played it to death. All of that being said, I grew up in the 90s and feel that OK Computer, was something like the best album of that decade. It was really shocking and also the last Radiohead album that was experimental and accessible in a balanced way (to me). A Series of Dreams, an outtake from a different album with Lanois, was better than anything on Time Out of Mind, so is Most of the Time but if you look at all of Dylan's total output... I don't know I love this album and this man--I can't speak against him but wish Radiohead's album could also have been recognized.
Bob looks strange here, wearing an all-buttoned-up stylized old Beatles jacket tailored for the Hulk, and like he's wearing weird makeup (looks like the girl on his left in back of him can't relate to that either, like "whaaat"), but this is a video so that's what I'm commenting on: its visuals, spec. since there ain't no music in this. But of course never mind, just bless you Bob for blessin us with your great songs (and of course music), which are charismatically mystic and unpredictable enough to make us THINK.
i can't imagine seeing Buddy Holly, so poetic that not only did Dylan went to the concert days before he died, but also that he made eye contact with him.
I’ve been trying to figure out for years. I’ve seen the Black woman in a couple of music videos. One video she’s in is “Who U Wit” by Jay-Z. The rest besides Usher, I don’t know.
I wish Bob had said something like 'Hello Best Man' to Usher but Usher would probably have taken that as a compliment. (BTW Bob saw Buddy in February 1959, only days before he was killed.)
Bob is one of the coolest people to have ever walked the earth.
He is. Your right. I met him in cleveland, ohio on july 17,1991. He was very nice to me. He was walking by himself.
Agree.
Indeed
Yes, Bob Dylan is a brilliant Legend❤❤❤❤❤❤
Obviously
Good ol’ Bill Dylan.
Love the Buddy Holly story he tells. Even our heroes, have their own heroes. Rest in peace Buddy.

yeah he just keeps getting better. It's scary what
Bob's accomplished. Many of Bob's songs on my work-out

Such an iconic human being, Bob Dylan.
This is the first time Bob gave a coherent speech and was not trying to project the "mystic" Bob image!
Agree. Actually behaving like a normal person rather than a pompous adze
That’s what l was thinking!!! Maybe drug free.
Whatever, it’s good.
@@allymayfulor maybe on just the right amount of drugs
Bobby's speech was so smooth and genuine. I love this moment in time.
I see silhouettes in the window, I see lovers in the meadow ...one of my favorite jeu de mots: love sick, sick of love!
I died laughing when Usher called him Bill Dylan.
The Buddy Holly story/connection is incredible. 👓

Forever Bob ❣The One the Only ❣
Absolutely no slight to The Great One, but I truly think Ok Computer should have won. Please don't hate me!
That is a good album. Like a semi-resurrection.
Dylan should have said something like, "Thanks everybody, I'm Bill Dylan, goodnight!"

“I’m just a song and dance man”
Hey to lose to Bob Dylan is a gift! Can't be disappointed.
Bob was thrilled
Bob and Elvis And The Beatles should have had about 50 Grammys, but that's alright!~E
they should be exempted from receiving music awards because no award giving body is worthy to give an award to the REAL, TRUE, and GREAT MUSICIANS!
Yep ... about 40 to Bob and split the rest ...
How can you not know his name for shame he is greater than all of the people there

Lanois also in his prime.
Bob was so COHERENT!!!
And Bob had just performed Love Sick so well live, in spite of the 'soy bomb' dance antics.

Bob Dylan=legend.
Daniel Lanois is a great man.
"Bill Dylan"!
"...and he looked at me." Buddy picked up on it. So cool...
‘Time Out Of Mind’ is definitely Bob Dylan’s best album from his later years.
100 years from now, people will still love and revere Bill Dylan but no one will remember Usher.
Wrong they’ll remember him
Who?
100%agree. But so fucking what? No need to dis Usher just to compliment Bob Dylan.
@@MrPernell27 Yeah, but Usher was so clueless that he called him BILL Dylan. He deserves the diss.

Honestly this record set " us" up for further releases through the naughties that for me are integral pieces of work lodged " now" in my DNA
Bill Dylan strikes again
Bob Dylan's voice is shot.
He sounds like he's got phlegm stuck in his throat.

Well deserved. Do this Hollywood fakers clapping know who Bob Dylan is?
I think Bob and Tiny Tim were the same man. Just freeze it at 3:15 and then think about it awhile.
Buddy Holly certainly wouldn’t have been my first thought for influence on this record but it’s awesome Dylan shouted him out.
Bill Dylan? That guy needed to chat with Sheryl and John for a few minutes.
'Bill' Dylan ffs. Who were the other people who joined Bob & Lanois on stage?
