If watching this channel has taught me anything it's that within a week, the record for this track is probably sub 50 by now. :) ;) That race was awesome. Well done Wirtual.
This map is incredible well made. I watched it twice first at Scrapie and now here again and you just have to admire this level of clean and still very varied building over the span of over an hour.
God damn, this content is top drawer! I wasn't planning on watching the whole thing and I usually speed through youtube at 1.5x speed, but the whole video was genuinely gripping. It's just driving like any other trackmania video, but seeing the opponents ahead at the break points and the way you set small goals for yourself throughout the race made it exciting to watch. That paired with the knowledge that you're racing blind alongside everyone else in a one shot gives it a lot of tension like rally racing. Watched the whole video on 1.0x speed, great driving and commentary Wirtual!
I love that this more "endurance" style is becoming prominent. Even better than this, 10 minute lap, 6 laps multilap. So people can learn the map as they go. Or 5 minutes, 12 lap multilap. Organize an endurance season with points carryover. It would be insane because it not only rewards skill but also mental fortitude and endurance. Then again, I simraced 24hr endurance events so I am quite masochistic like that lol
I'd love this as a team. 2 players, 1 player drive the map once and make instructions for his teammate that drives the map 1-shot with him as a co-driver rally style.
Can we just give props to the editing of this? To have the music timed perfectly for the end of the race, not to mention some of the boss fight music when he was duelling for a section of the track... Kudos to the editor on this one.
So funny to see the race from a "lower" placement view. Watching from Scrapie's POV, it was just him, Lars and Yannex in the world, for most of the race no other player would even show up in the checkpoint timings. It seems much more stressful from Wirtual's POV with overtakes left and right.
I watched it all when it was first uploaded, and now I almost got caught up in it again! When something is so hard that Wirtual can't to it with half his brain and use the rest for witty banter and reading the chat… so suspenseful! Like when you're watching a movie, and suddenly the background music stops and there's no sound but the hushed breathing of the protagonist.
I wish mappers would establish a precedent for their map. Tona 100% should have shown 10:57 transitions like this in the first minute of the map to say to the player "hey expect these throughout." rather than do straight tech, grass, ice, dirt... then 10 minutes in throw a transition. I get it if he's trying to throw off players to give chances to others by being "volatile", but man, would of been nice to have it structured. Other than that, it's incredibly impressive to map something this huge. Well done ♥
I don't play Trackmania and the only racing game I play is Flatout 2. And yet I am sitting here, watching the whole thing and finding it strangely fascinating, almost a bit hypnotic. Guess I've found a new thing I can watch to fall asleep - watching people play Trackmania. Quite a difference in comparison to Wh40k lore videos, but hey, I take my sleeping aid where I can find it.
*SPOILERS AHEAD* That was incredible, well done by Tona. I really enjoy these endurance races, its my favourite trackmania competition format. The battle with Tarpor at the end was my favourite part of the race. Really unfortunate the comeback didn't work out,it was looking promising.
The background music in this video is very well done. It's just the right amount of something else happening, but not so much as to be distracting or make his voice difficult to understand. Great job
It is so so so cool to watch a game where you're usually playing against yourself only and aren't used to being distracted by other drivers, but in this context. It's a natural skillset in sim racing to not be flustered by the presence of someone else but there are moments here where it shines through (again, as expected, 99% of the trackmania experience doesn't build those particular muscles)
