I was at this spectacular game! I took my now deceased dad and my brothers. We got there 2 hours early to enjoy all the crazy pre-game dancing and festivities going on outside the stadium, was a blast. And that game ended up being the best game of the entire tournament in my opinion. Our seats were right in the middle of a bunch of Brazilian fans, so it was a massive party! Was such a great experience!

Fui solo desde Monterrey, NL, mis amigos a última hora cambiaron el vuelo para ir a Washington a ver jugar a México; ya en Dallas conocí a una mujer guapísima que me vendió el boleto y conocí a 2 colombianos con los que festejamos después del partido.

This was the first time I had ever seen the beautiful game played professionally. Football (soccer) was almost never on TV in the US before this. I was 10 years old at the time and was absolutely fascinated by it -- I have been in love with the game ever since.
+Sean Click I was also 10 years old. I was born in chicago and lived there until 93, we moved to mexico and remember watching the world cup. The brazil-Italy final, the US team, etc. Been in love ever since haha

Same here my man. I was 13 at the time and though futbol was the first sport that I was attracted to I never followed it until the 94' world cup. The love of the sport and the love of Brasil started here for me and I haven't looked back.

Yeah, 1998 semifinal is probably one of the best world cup matches ever played. Brazil - Netherlands is always some great matches in world cup. Both also seem to have great respect for each other.
A player trusted to organize chaos and produce results from the unknown... the cunning, the flamboyance, the technique and that masterful class... Romário was pure divine talent
The game plan of Parreira (Brazil DT) was: "You eight players defend and shoot the ball to Romario and Bebeto, and let them do their job"
What a terrific pair of attackers! Best duo I have seen in a World Cup.
They were great and so were Andersson/Dahlin in Sweden, they scored 9 goals, which was actually 1 more than Romario/Bebeto.

What's was amazing about Branco's free kick goal was that, just before that, he was bashed to the ground and fouled all game. His anger was building and building. He took it out on the dutch with this sublime free kick "Rasteira" Goal. Valeu Brasil. Rumo a sexta.
Branco Torpeded Overmars on the chin. At least a yellow card for Branco, and no free kick!
bebeto was pure class and criminally underrated. his touches, movements, unselfishness, finishes were top level. and that celebration..

After all these years (especially as a Dutchman)... he was a true phenomenon! Perhaps even better then brazil's Ronaldo or Ronaldinho. He had this insight, technique, and explosive speed-acceleration he'd just put himself ,free before anyone. Briljant. Of all the copycat-footballplayers, there is only óne Romario!

The Netherlands had a really tough match with Ireland before this one and just scraped through.
The Irish deserve a big thank you from Brazilian fans for softening the Dutch up for them.
Brazil had a really tough too against USA, playing most of the game with 10 men, so they are even.

One of most remarkable matchs of Brazil in World Cups history and the free kick goal most emotional that i saw in the brazilian team history. I feel the same emotion still today. Branco, in 94, was a Fluminense player, so, this goal was more wonderful for my emotions.

The second goal was very controversial. The Dutch felt that the pass was clearly intended for Romario, who was in an offside position when the pass was initiated. However, Romario let the ball bounce and it was collected by his team-mate Bebeto who went on to score.
Whether or not an offside should have been called depends on if Romareo is considered to be "in play" while in an "off-side position". This is where things get very subjective...
Many sports writers beleive that he was indeed "in play" hence offside should have been called.

Looking back, I'm still sad about the second goal which was clearly miles offside by the rules of that time... Holland defenders even standing still cause they thought it was a successful offside-trap.
@Orleans Haha, on the other hand by current rules it would not be offside because the player offside does not take part in the game. That's why the offside-trap is not really used anymore. I think what they did here is already apply that new rule without clear communication to the teams.
Only Romário was offside and he doesnt participate at that moment. Bebeto was not.
What are you talking about, Bebeto was not offsite he clearly came from behind running towards the ball and beat the last defender to the chase not too mention the GK as well. Anyone else that was offsite is irrelevant Bebeto wasn’t and he was the only one that touched the ball needless to say he scored the Goal of the Tournament
@@Willie-po1lf That's the current rules yes, but not the rules back then! The rules were changed but in 1994 it was when any player was offside. That's you the offside trap was used then but you don't see the offside trap anymore today,

IMHO this is the real final of 94 WC and one of the best game in this tornament beside German vs Belgia, Italy vs Spain and Rumania vs German. No edgar davis made Hollands lost its agility on defend but Bergkamp shows his best skills, aron winter, overmars and wim jonk give their best. Brazill fan should thanks to Branco. What a great moment.
