I bought this knife on the recommendation of a guy named Daniel….411 Outdoors LLC on You Tube. His tutorials are great, no loud music, good quality video, and no ego garbage, just good solid tutorials. In a beginner throwing tutorial he mentioned the Cold Steel Tru Flight Thrower. I bought one and am very satisfied. I’ve been throwing a little lighter knife….Sog, which I’m also pleased with, but this is longer, heavier, and thicker. I’ve only thrown it full spin, but from the start I was impressed by how it threw. Solid sticks! It split the 2x12 pine board I’ve been throwing at in half on my 6th throw.

I am a beginner at knife throwing and post a few video's inviting people to watch as I learn. Watch as I struggle and watch as on occasion, I make a few fantastic throws. I am always confident that I will work through my struggles and relate how life is full of struggles which we have to work through. Anyway, thanks for the precautions about injuries, because I have already experienced mine. My throw hit another knife and came back at me with what seemed like more force than I had thrown it with. It caught me right in the side of the knee as I tried to turn to avoid it. Fortunately it was not super sharp, but still penetrated a good quarter of an inch. Still a bit sore, but on the mend.
Sorry to hear, my friend! I have noticed that the potential for injury reduces with time and increased skillset. It usually happens when we overcommit and are up close

I also wanted to ask you about your intro.. I saw you using a sling. THATS a skill I DEFINATLY believe is important for what I'm into. Where As I look at knife throwing as a fun hobby....
I do a lot of bushcraft/minimalist camping. And learn what I can about wilderness survival. And I believe a sling could make a great improvised weapon for small game hunting. I'm going to now search your channel and see if you put out any videos on it. But if you have not. I would REALLY love to see a video on getting into slinging rocks. The legal kind. 😜 thanks for reading.

Excellent tutorial. I’m at the stage of my knife throwing hobby to fully appreciate the talent it takes to get really good. Even if I don’t get very good, still a great pastime and helps me unwind after a long day.

No spin is safer, cooler and more versatile👍 i started off doing halfspin and thinkin how close and hard i was throwing gives me the heebiegeebies. Always expect the target to strike back.
Your ease of tone & knowledge blends well together. Definitely keeps me watching your helpful videos to learn.. My grown sons have been wanting to get something set up at my parents house for them to do while there. Nothing like going from horseshoes to throwing sharp knives lol.. I learned many years ago not to play with them & think I'd win, but that's not to say I didn't keep up with them & hold my own at least. I'm not to bad off from where my expectations after weighing in my inconveniences of my limbs inabilities at times.. The joys of for having primary progressive multiple sclerosis is having to retrain yourself your new functional abilities because you refuse to be unable.. so I am glad to have come across your video. I'm always done to learning specially when it involves my 4 sons safety, enjoyment, memories made & to be honest them shit talking their way to a win. Lol

One comment to adhere to is to only throw one way until you become proficient at that way...then try another way...if you mix styles you will have difficulty in mastering any...

Great series. Thank you. I’m not that good (yet) and didn’t know which end to hold it at first.
Started with the sharp end but when I changed to the handle I noticed that I got more power in the throw.
By the way, I didn’t know which distance to start from so I started from like 8-10 meters and it went well. But when I saw your video I probably should start at a 2-3 meters for the best result?
That distance will allow you to develop some half spin and some up close no spin🙂👍

@@411Outdoors even though it's an attached handle its solid. The only thing that has happened is that the hilt has a bit of shake. Brother, this was my first-ish thrower, it's still slapping handle hit and holding strong. I like it more than the CS true flight thrower because Glock infused their magic in it. It just works

🤣🤣🤣 When I decided to look up knife throwing, I was thinking more in the dart size. Does the size & stature of a person make a difference in the size of the throwing knife? Reason I decided to lookup knife throwing is as a mental discipline exercise & physical stress relieving hobby. Excellent video, thank you.

What about while moving or unknown distance ... in a situation of self defense like a back ally somewhere...is there a way to train outside of having to be a certain distance... so it would be effective like on a navy seal mission or ninja back in the day .. target throwing is cool but in the end the most important thing is can i defend myself consistently and confidently in combat ... im 100 %new to this im trying find good info on how to start...
I did a tutorial on Hammer grip, no spin which is a combat style of throwing. It’s very instinctive

You could actually do a good rotational throw sitting down usually 10 feet. May have to lean in slightly. Just make a smooth cut downnward and let go

You may also refer to Adam Celadins channel his videos are also excellent to start and to learn knife throwing. In one particular video Adam is showing how to throw from different positions, even from sitting on the floor. And he is a real professional showing how to throw with most of knife types available on the market or even making your own throwing tools just by buying a 300 mm construction nail and making a grip using tape.
everyone has their own way to throw. I keep trying and I have better days every now and then but honestly Im probably sticking about 25% to a third of my throws. Some days I get so discouraged. Other day Ill stick 5 out of 8 throws. It shows I dont know shit about what im doing. maybe my arm just dont throw good
I realize I'm asking about "Hollywood" special effects, but in the Expendables films, the type of knives Jason Statham uses are similar to the smaller, lightweight knife you showed, while other actors in the series seem to use the medium size you recommended.
Any thoughts on the types of knives, throwing techniques, and/or realism of the Expendables presentation of throwing?
Great question! I find the Expendables (at least parts of it) somewhat unrealistic with the Kunai blades though I love the film. Kunai don’t throw to well in my opinion. Light knives would struggle piercing the human body through gear. Neck shots would still be effective even with a lighter knife.
Hi! I'm a fiction writer, writing a particular scene, and I had a question I can't seem to find the answer to. I've never thrown knives (on the bucket list). Maybe this is a silly question, but, how do you aim? When you're aiming the knife, does the knife go to where you're eyes are looking, or is more where your hand aims? Is it possible to aim too high, or too far to the left, and how would you fix that? Just trying to write as accurately as possible! Thanks in advance
In all honesty, I really do believe aiming is instinctive because for those who throw instinctively as I, they wouldn’t have time to aim really. The best advice I give people is you must really see your target. Aim small miss small. But in this case, see small miss small. If I’m aiming for the middle of the target, a look at the very center of it and nothing else.
Id just like to point out that knife throwing is a pure sport, it has nothing to do with survivalist tactics.. only way you can use a throwing blade as a survivalist is to find a handle and make spear out of it, those blade designs are perfect for it. why it is not survivalist tactic- you just dont want to throw away your weapon, miss and lose it, you would like to hang on your weapon and make maximum use out of it
I most definitely agree that knife throwing should not be a first level go to, but myself and a lot of other combat knife thrower’s like Jason Johnson aka Pro Knife Thrower and Matei Florin who train for combat throwing understand the various ways it be effective. I enjoy it for recreation, but it’s a combative skillset that creates a lot of martial faculties in a person. I have done penetration test that reveal the danger of a knife throw when it’s done with a good combat knife and instinctively.

What can I say, I like to talk to and connect with my audience. There’s plenty of TH-camrs who just perform perform exactly like everyone wants. They may be better for you. Personally I believe there is more to presentation that just performance. If I explain something there’s usually a pretty good reason. You may not know this but the knife throwing community is full of gatekeepers and can be pretty cut throat. I was new to the scene when I made this.

Why do people like you always have to come and spew your anger and attitude on somebody’s content??I’ve had lots of people say this was very helpful to them and that’s all that matters to me. If you’re just looking for a demonstration, watch someone else. In a tutorial, you have to teach and teachings requires talking and theory. You’re not going to learn knife throwing as easy as you think. There are so many guys out there like yourself who are offended at talking and I just don’t get it. Angry people are always on TH-cam projecting on others. David Goggins said it best “you’ll never find a hater who is doing better than you”. Keep shaking your head because i going to keep talking.
