I absolutely love this rendition! My mom passed away very unexpectedly last February and I chose this song to be played at her funeral. Everyone loved it and it was such an amazing goodbye to her❤️I love you mom!!
She gives me chills singing this song especially the part after the second chorus I believe, where she sings "When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home what joy shall feel my heart Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim My God, how great Thou art!" I have ALWAYS Thought Carrie has a PURE voice & sound since her first appearance on A.I. and I knew she would go far. Her voice and ability to ride those long vocals is A-MAZING, I'm glad she keeps the songs original and just uses her strong vocals to punch it out rather than all the EXTRA bravados that singers do especially when singing the National Anthem, KIS and when Carrie sings I close my eyes and can visualize the beauty of Heaven with this song especially. I happened upon this because My Mom passed away recently and THIS SONG & This rendition was one she Loved, IF It wasn't Covid time and we could have a traditional service THIS would be One of the songs included 💝 As well as Amazing Grace Mom Loved and she REALLY liked Lauren Daigle - "You Say" Oh the list I could've gathered and let's not forget Christmas favorite or any time Carrie Underwood & John Legend - Hallelujah. No matter how many times I watch this rendition by Carrie Underwood, I cry and I watch so many reaction videos. This one always makes me cry and for good reason, because I believe that she truly was singing for the Lord and the Holy Spirit was there that night over that crowd and was blessing her performance.
I know that this is a vocal reaction, but you can’t talk through one of the greatest all time guitar player’s solo during the song. From a musician’s viewpoint, that is the second best part of this song (it deserves its own reaction).

I'm an Atheist, so religion is really not my cup of tea, and I find it hard to enjoy country music in most cases. yet I really like Carrie Underwood and respect her talent, ever since i first saw her on Idol. I also love gospel music despite my personal world view. music and talent is universal and crossover all kind of belief/genre barriers.
One of the best renditions of this amazing hymn. I bought the CD just because of this live recording and did not regret a bit. Carrie is always very humble and gives her best in every performance but you can see she never overdoes it on hymns because she knows hymns are not about her but the Lord. Love her so much. And she is definitely one of the singers who have the best breathe control. I have been her fan since her debut album and her breathe control has always been blowing me away. Her voice and performance here was unbelievable- but the part that made this performance even more powerful was Vince's harmony vocals and smooth guitar playing... it added a whole new dimension to the song
Carrie recommendations (please do more of hers!!): Cry Pretty - any of the live versions, but probably the CMT Awards. Just an absolute powerhouse vocal, and does some different things vocally than she normally does Dream On/Just a Dream - it’s a mashup she does in concert, and it’s amazing, complete with the Steven Tyler wail. Lots of different in concert videos, but the San Antonio one (among others) is good quality! Softly and Tenderly - the full video might not be on TH-cam but is on other sources if you’re willing to do those! Just an emotional and vocal masterclass. Anyways, would love to see you do more reactions to her!

The interesting thing about this performance is that she was supposed to sing with a few others later in the evening and she couldn't, her voice wasn't up to it after this. There is a video of her with the others for the later number and she isn't singing. It's understandable.
