He doesn't even own any equipment. This is the first time he ever recorded on anything other than a cell phone. He is working with Radio WV and they provided the equipment to record this song. It seems that they are acting in a managerial role in getting his music out there. When he recorded this he was still working in a paper mill. He lives with his dogs in a camper on this property.

To speak to the end of the video. The system has taught you to punch down. And you willingfully went there, then disclaimered you believe people need help. You will always have both. Same goes for making rich men, in hopes of trickle down theory.
Fact is, with non bs pay, people don’t need assistance. Or if salaries could cover a household with one income like they did until the early 80’s.
Then you have some politicians who want to “up the benefits” by requiring working to catch welfare…. That is like an instant wage subsidy for the likes of corporations! We all pay what Walmart won’t.
Now lastly. Ask yourself why this song resonates. It is a protest song that went viral. Protest songs get zero radio play these days where clear channel aka IHeart who brought you Limbaugh, Oreily, and Hannity, daily to push corporate interests, will never manage to share that there is a segment of people scheduled to suffer under current system. It is baked in.
God forbid they lose a commercial purchaser because time and a half overtime pay needs to go away, so too does minimum wage, and we all need to pretend it doesn’t hurt people but actually helps.
Lastly, the government are pawns in the system and can force through what is right and good. They are bought off by the system that allows it. And our Supreme court is unified in that. As they were selected for for that one reason.
He's had no formal training. This is raw, authentic and heartfelt.

Oliver used the Channel his friend has because it was a bit more established. They were hoping to get 300k views through that channel which happens to have a bunch more great music on it. Oliver now posts on his own account but this was a runaway success and is a song that will be getting covered and sung for a long time to come.

The way he sings is called an "Appalachian Holler". He's not from Appalachia, but from nearby, in the Piedmont area; so, his way of singing comes natural to us. (I come from Appalachia, but from a different state, than him.)

One note, the videos posted to the Oliver Anthony channel were recorded on his cell phone and uploaded by him. Radio West Virginia (an artist showcase) recently recorded him and posted to the RadioWV channel. That was the first time he had been recorded with a professional mic, btw. The rest, as they say, is history.

For me as a german its interesting to see and hear your opinions about taxes. I'm not knowing the tax system of your country exactly, but in my opinion its not about the amount of taxes but more about the usage of it. I pay more than 50 percent of my income for taxes and social security contributions, but i know the money is in most cases used well. In this system everybody in the country has a health insurances, minimal income for around 750 euros (for unemployees), pension and more...btw its still a great song to listen, with a great drive and soul

That 'H' sound is fairly common in Appalachia brought over with the Scots-Irish. He's from Farmville, VA, which I know very well, but that area is still mostly rural and carries some of that speech pattern.

Fact: Federal income taxes are at an all-time low since the income tax was established more than a century ago.
Here in Finland we have free healtcare, education, social security etc. But "greatest country in a world" can't gif any of those things to citizens of US? How "great" is that?

There are people who abuse the system and misuse programs like food stamps etc., but it is also true that in most poor communities healthy options just don't exist.
He wishes they would look out for Minors and not just minors on an island somewhere. This could mean he wants them to look out for the workers in mines, but also look out for young folks here and help them, don't just look for them on an island (which I think is implying Politicians that do go and look for them on an island don't intend to help them.)

People claim he's either fat shaming of welfare shaming, but he's (like you rightly stated) calling out abuse of welfare, which is abuse of taxpayer's $$$. You're spot on. Lastly, they say if you favor yellow as a color, that means you're a positive, creative, inquisitive (learner), friendly, and spiritual person.

70% of unpaid taxes are from the top 1%. Even more absurd is whining about welfare when it's literally a drop in the bucket of fraud.. the corporate welfare is what the problem is. There you get people gambling with others money and when they inevitably drive it into the ground then have the government bail them out, no consequences, and they just move to another corporation. But if you or I did that we'd be declaring bankruptcy and most certainly be investigated (and most definitely never bailed out).
In fact, welfare is distributed to the states as a block grant. In Mississippi, Brett Favre was petitioning for the college to get a new volleyball gym (his daughter is on the team) so they took $4 million dollars from the welfare grant to pay for it. Then gave him an additional $1 million for "facilitating" and in emails had told his assistant that he needed to conceal the origin of the money

So the money meant for struggling families ($200 a month in food stamps and $200 biweekly for the poorest of the poor) instead was wasted.

WIC, child tax credits, all that stuff are from other people paying for it, mostly really wealthy people, because lower income people don't usually need to pay those large sums of income tax, property tax, inheritance tax, and when the taxes aren't enough to cover the bill, they print some more, which makes the dollar worth even less, thereby hurting the same group of people that think they're getting free money from rich people. They aren't, they're making said rich people protect large sums in things like real estate and other things that don't devalue, and downsize their work force. and then you couple that with Blackrock swooping in on people that are about to close on a house with a huge cash offer, and then burdensome zoning restrictions. it's not hard to see why we have shortages. Cause people voting against their interests.
