Carrie said in an interview once that while Vince was playing, the Holy Spirit took over and she does not even remember finishing the song. Her faith is beautiful and she is not afraid to show it.
One cannot watch this performance and not be taken to church.Vince and Carrie gave the ultimate performance, that will never be outdone by any other artist.
Wow. I can't believe you stopped the video mid-song! You STOPPED A HYMN being sung to the Lord and chatted for 10 minutes before resuming! Oh guys! Vince and Carrie took the world on a journey and absolutely transported us with that performance. Carrie was worshipping the Lord - we were just given the privilege of witnessing that glorious vocal masterpiece. The Holy Spirit shone out of her so brightly it was mind-blowing! How she punctuated every verse with her arm/hand and held those impossibly long notes - absolutely breathtaking! There will never be another performance of How Great Thou Art that will top that PERFECT performance.
The holy spirit flowed through Carrie that night and filled everyone watching her. When you get a standing ovation half way through a performance you know you're doing it right!
Vince Gill is truly someone you should listen to. "Go Rest High On That Mountain" Is likely his most popular song and with good reason; the official video as well as his singing of it at George Jones's funeral are worth hearing. But he has an entire playlist of amazing songs. "When I Call Your Name" is another one of his more popular songs.
How Great Thou Art Ms. Underwood. Probably one of greatest live performances I've ever seen. I remember when Carrie won American Idol back in the day, I said to myself, now that is a "real and true singer"... She's proven herself over and over again showing her fans how well she can perform and sing!!!!! Was a fan before and a bigger fan now.... God given talent for sure!!!!!!! This gives me chills everytime I watch this performance!!!!!! God is good!!!!!!!
One of my favorite performances ever.EVER. If you don’t feel it in your soul, you don’t have one IMO. VINCE GILL’s is one of the greatest guitarists and singers that ever lived. He performs with The Eagles now some I think. He’s a legend. ❤
This was at a country awards show & that audience standing is full of her peers. The Judds, Luke Bryan, Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton, Sugarland & on & on. Vince Gill, her 'sidekick' in this video is a huge talent himself. 'Go rest high on that mountain' is like this one. So very powerful, however, he does it in a more subtle way. He sings sweet like an angel, not like a powerhouse & it is his biggest hit. 'When I call your name' is another beautiful song by him. As for Carrie? Yes, 'Two black Cadillacs' is good & the video is really cool too. For fun 'Before he cheats' or 'Last name' or 'Cowboy Cassanova'. She has a ton of great songs & you can't go wrong. "Blown away' will blow you away. LOL
What a powerful performance. It's like she is singing directly to God. Overlooked is Vince Gill's backing vocals, done just right. Not too much, not too little. Also, his guitar solo. So simple, but moving. It fits perfectly with the song. One of the best live performances in any flavor of music. Change my mind. Great job guys.
Best performance of this hymn ever, both Carrie and Vince nailed this performance; you don’t even have to be religious but this performance is incredible! I would highly recommend Two Black Cadillacs and Church Bells
Every time I see this, I look at the end where Carrie wipes away a tear and chuckles and I feel like she can barely believe herself what she just did on that stage
Yes! I've been waiting for you to get to this one. It is a mind-blowing performance. One of the greatest live vocals I've ever heard. Pure perfection. If you're interested in reacting to Vince Gill too, he is also a phenomenal singer. He is a legend in the country genre. To really hear his vocal skills, I'd suggest listening to "When I call your name". It's stunning vocally. 😊
The holy spirit took over when Vince started to play his solo she didn't remember going back to it or finishing the song that's how strong the holy spirit was.
I love Carrie Underwood and especially her rendition of this great gospel song, it's truly one for the ages. And may I say I also love Tiffany, your cat! My husband & I are 'cat people' and enjoy a few of our own, such wonderful critters they are. Thank you very much for your reactions, haven't missed one yet.
The audience is amazing. You see the Judds, and other country stars sitting there, and feeling her singing within; praying and feeling this hymn, while supporting her as well. ❤🥰👍🏻🙏🏻❤️
I can listen to this version over and over(and I have)Vince Gill is an amazing artist as well. His guitar solo was cut off in this edited version. He played for at least a minute. I would suggest reacting to Vince Gill.
Great song and vocals... you guys should check out Vince Gill, who has such a sweet and beautiful voice... check out his song "Go rest high on that mountain".
I watched this live on television and the amazing thing about this song. Is this was around the time? She just won American Idol. So a lot of the stars in country and country royalty were there. So a lot of them just thought she was not really a country star because she won a reality show. When the biggest people in the audience saw her vocal. their attitude changed and they realize that she was really a beautiful singer. They looked at her different. They treated different. She got more jobs and people willing to work with her. Vince Gill himself is original big country star. So the fact that she got up there and was able to do this duet with him was a big thing. In this show was a televised show where she stood next to the biggest stars of country women at that time. have the audience that was there to have them do a standing ovation and making the late and great Naomi Judd and others cry. You could tell that their attitude of her just being a reality star winner changed and they knew she was a singer not just a reality singer winner. I mean if you look Blake Shelton is still married to Miranda Lambert around that time. She has since then remake this song, but this will always be my rendition of her singing it. This night was amazing to watch this live on TV as it is to rewatch it.
Vince Gill is one of the best guitarists out there today and a wonderful tenor voice. Unfortunately they cut his guitar solo in this video because it was a bit longer. Carrie's got the pipes and she's beautiful to boot. Religion is an important part of her life. How Great Thou Art - such a simple church hymn, but arguably the best hymn ever written. Very powerful in its simplicity. I think I would have died 6 items trying to hold that last note like she did.
A little tidbit of info ... the lady that was in the front row wiping her tears was Naomi Judd (beside her was her daughter Wynnona) and that was the last time she was seen in public. She passed away this past year so it makes this video, even more special. RIP Naomi.
Her version of “ I told you so” with Randy Travis from American Idol was heartfelt, even in her beginnings. Randy Travis kept smiling at her. I think he knew he was about to see a new country star being born.
You need to go to listen with your hearts not ears, to Vince Gill original video of Go Rest High On That Mountain, it is a tear jerker. He wrote it about his brother that passed away.
The woman tearing up in the audience was the late Naomi Judd. Another note is that Carrie's mother is in the front row in the white suit. Imagine what she felt watching her daughter sing this in front of her peers to such a great ovation.
IMO, hands down, the best live performance I have EVER seen!!! and not just because of her voice, and the talented Vince Gill, but because you can tell she believes every word she is singing. the emotion the whole crowd felt.
Carrie and Vince are amazing in this. She has a deep faith, as did Elvis, and it shows. Please do Elvis’s version from 1972, in a blue suit. Some prefer his 1977 version, but my favorite is 1972. It is very different. Please do Elvis!❤️🤞
Not gospel. It's a traditional hymn, and there is a BIG difference. It was played at my great grandmother's funeral in 1971, but it goes back for a hundred and fifty years. This is a beautiful version and Vince Gill is outstanding in a supporting role, which he doesn't do very often. Carrie is the most successful Idol Alumna by a large margin, and she deserves it.
You two have quickly become my favorite reaction duo and I particularly love watching your response to the country songs I've been listening to my entire life (I'm very old). Now that you've heard Carrie Underwood in breathtaking gospel mode, it's time to listen to her do something very, very different. I think you'll appreciate her performance of Choctaw County Affair, and to see how multi-talented she is, be sure to find her live performance of the song at the CMA Music Festival. She'll knock your socks off (assuming you wear socks, of course). Keep up the great work, guys!
I'm sad that ya'll don't know Vince Gill... One of the best on his own in the 90's.. but also an amazing guitar player, song writer and harmonized with so many ... just like he's going to right here with Carrie
This girl feels this song though... I think that's what makes it amazing...They both are feeling it.. the audience if feeling it... when you sing a song with passion from your soul... it hits home... and she was born and raised in the church and so was Vince.. it resonates more And I get goosebumps everytime I hear this... Thank you for your reaction
Easy knowing you don’t follow country music. So many famous country singers in the audience. True legends. Beautiful reaction to an amazing song sung by one of the best 👏
This was my great-grandmother’s favourite hymn. My favourite Vince Gill songs are “Rock of Ages” a duet he performed with Amy Grant and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” a song he wrote in honour of his brother.
She feels the power and the love of God when she sings his praises. It's the holy spirit moving. It's a physical feeling and it's the most amazing feeling in the world.
My daughter is 28 years old, and can sing like this, but she works all the time, and nobody hears her other than her family. When she sings "A Mother's Smile", we all melt.
Knocking out that song in front of an audience of her country-music peers! At 9:08 was a shot of Martina McBride who is also known for having a huge, powerhouse voice.
Thank you for respectful and clean languaged reviews/reactions! Keep up the good work. There is talent and artistry and style that can be evaluated for discipline, creativity, spot-on accuracy, etc. Creativity can come from so many sources: the mind just jumping around, humor - at its various levels, from the soul and who the writers or performers are; but then there is another level, the spirit, that can underlie all of it. And when a singer/songwriter taps into the spirit realm, it gains a new dimension. Songs of faith can be about people, experiences/awarenesses, single events, or story telling. And all that is human experience. But when Christians write or perform with their focus on the Creator/Father, who individually designed each one of us to be unique and special - each to be loved and appreciated for God's original intent for that person - then what is felt and conveyed enters the spirit realm! And when it connects well with God's pure and holy heart, He then joins in with His Holy Spirit to empower and enrich the created piece as a billboard/testimony of His Love and His desire to see us live well fulfilling His intended purpose for each one of us! THAT is the deepest, most heart-touching level that is seen and felt. God wants us to know Him intimately, that we might operate as one with His Spirit in perfect union for ultimate good! Occasionally we see performances at that deep level! Carrie here is touching that depth and we feel it!!!!! Look for it in any Christian performances because they are looking to God and trying to perform to and for HIm and to tell about Him! You might sample David Phelps's "O Holy Night" (theater setting live), or Voctave and Mark Lowry's "Mary, Did You Know?" to see God's Spirit joining in and empowering the performer/performance. New awarenesses might even enhance your reactions at times! Hope this has caused thoughtful contemplation and consideration. You both seem to have a gentle spirit. Keep up the good work. (Sorry this is so long of a comment.)
You definitely should watch Elvis perform this live in 1972. A little different version, but just as powerful. He actually won 2 grammys for this song, one for the Best Sacred Performance in 1967 and then again for best Inspirational Performance in 1974 for his live version. He only won 3 grammys, 2 of them were for this song. The other was for another Gospel song, He Touched Me in 1972
Vince Gill is an absolute Country Music legend. He's married to Contemporary Christian Music's Amy Grant. Vince's guitar solo had me feeling filled with God's peace that His Word says, surpasses all understanding. I could just sit and listen to Vince Gill play the guitar for hours. The man they showed that was unashamedly crying during Vince's solo is TobyMac. He sang in a Christian rap/hiphop group in the 90's called dc Talk. Then, in the early 2000's, he went solo and has been extremely successful. A few years after this performance, his 21 year old son (Truett Foster MacKeehan) died not too long following his own 1st concert, following in Dad's musical way. TobyMac wrote a song about how he is dealing with Truett's death. It's called "21 years" and it's heartbreaking. Many reacters have reacted to it and I'd love to see y'alls reaction.
I'd recommend Vince Gills song Go Rest High on that Mountain official music video. Try to find the older videos of it where his voice was more powerful. He has lost a bit in the last few years.
Seen this more times than i can remember cause it's such a beautiful and powerful performance. A side note guess most people don't know this song is originally from Sweden and it doesn't happen often a Swedish song gets translated into English and becomes world famous!
Vince Gill is an amazing talent. He made his world debut with a group called Pure Prairie League as the lead singer and guitar player. He is actually an amazing guitar player as well as singer. Maybe give a listen to Amie by that group and then of course Vince’s Go Rest High Upon That Mountain. Get the tissues ready though if you do listen. Really appreciate you two. Rob
This is absolutely beautiful. You will think God is coming down from Heaven.
Vince gill is a legend
Carrie said in an interview once that while Vince was playing, the Holy Spirit took over and she does not even remember finishing the song. Her faith is beautiful and she is not afraid to show it.
I feel The Holy Spirit every time I hear this.
Yes, I can fully believe the Holy Spirit "took the wheel" during this performance. ♥️
Amen.❤
I saw someone say they were a part of the audience and they performed it 3 times in a row to get it how Carrie wanted it.
@@Gutslingerlol no.
Vince Gill is one of the greatest guitar players of our time....
he is great , but nashville has hundreds of great players. if you aren't up to snuff you are humbled very quick!
When you get a standing o before you finish the song says it all.
Yep, takin it to church❤✝️
When you can move your peers in that manner, you've done something special
1:49 Dude, if someone listened to Elvis and Carrie both doing this, back to back.... I think they'd just pop up to heaven fr.
One cannot watch this performance and not be taken to church.Vince and Carrie gave the ultimate performance, that will never be outdone by any other artist.

Amen. I get misty every time.
If I've made it without crying through this, seeing beautiful Naomi always makes me lose it.
The best version of this hymn ever and one of the greatest live performances ever … just insane vocal
The holy spirit flowed through Carrie that night and filled everyone watching her. When you get a standing ovation half way through a performance you know you're doing it right!
Yes and Amen!
I got teary eyed and my cousin got goosebumps when he heard it
She’s an angel. ❤
A standing ovation halfway through the song. So, so good.
I know you would enjoy hearing Vince Gill singing Go Rest High On The Mountain.
This is the best of the best version of this song I have ever heard!! God has blessed Carrie with a strong vocal range and she shines on this song!
Chills everytime I watch. Vince Gill musicianship is truly a GOD given gift

Carrie held that last note for 17 seconds amazing
the thing I like about Carrie and Vinces version is that it is a tribute to every religion in the world hence every religion has a god

I sang this in church growing up. It’s a very old and beloved gospel hym. Her and Vince’s performance here is pretty awesome. 🙏🕊
You can definitely see where the Holy Spirit takes her over!
Carrie is nothing short of amazing.
Vince is one of my favorite players/singers and you've gotta check out "Go Rest High on that Mountain'.
Carrie telling Nashville " IM HER"❤

Vince Gill was a founding member of the band Pure Prairie League.

This was a God wink for sure, that an old great hymn is so well received in this day and age.
My absolute favorite Gospel song, done brilliantly!
Her version of “ I told you so” with Randy Travis from American Idol was heartfelt, even in her beginnings. Randy Travis kept smiling at her. I think he knew he was about to see a new country star being born.

Me being a die hard fan of Carrie Underwood. She did this live first and then she put it on her My Savior album. Yes I have every album that there is.

You might like her hit “Before He Cheats”. It’s a fun song. She’s so beautiful in this one, as always.
Seen this more times than i can remember cause it's such a beautiful and powerful performance. A side note guess most people don't know this song is originally from Sweden and it doesn't happen often a Swedish song gets translated into English and becomes world famous!
Flawless performance
"Before He Cheats" is a very good song and video
She also performed and sang this song in a tribute to elvis
Vince Gill is an amazing talent. He made his world debut with a group called Pure Prairie League as the lead singer and guitar player. He is actually an amazing guitar player as well as singer. Maybe give a listen to Amie by that group and then of course Vince’s Go Rest High Upon That Mountain. Get the tissues ready though if you do listen. Really appreciate you two. Rob
