For real… Labron can adjust his game just like he does in USA basketball to play with anyone. It’s other people that that can’t change the way they play. This will be a matchup problem at all times. Labron can run the court while Luka takes a break and vice versa. They are gonna be straight butter.

I think people just don't watch. 3-4 years ago it would be a fair argument. We saw this with Wade & Bron -- there is only one ball.
But it seems pretty clear that LeBron knows he can't do it anymore. He just wants to play off someone like Luka vs doing the heavy lifting anymore. That was the point of getting Russ.
My guess is that his defense ticks up, he plays even more in transition, and he becomes the ultimate glue guy on offense. And the fact he's a legit spot up guy now makes him playing off ball way more viable.

Also Lebron has been asking for YEARS for someone to handle the ball so he can sabe energy. If something, this is perfect for both. Luka gets the ball, Lebron can rest more and the team has a 2 of the best passers in the league.

What will be a problem is LA can put out massive lineups though. Luka, Bron, Rui, DFS, Williams means you have _guards_ trying to keep DFS and Rui off the offensive glass

Once they get into a scramble and the matchups shift, _THAT_ is where the size comes in. But good teams usually have multiple big two-way wings

I'm not convinced on Williams. He really hasn't looked that good. AD is a far better center but they gained Luka which is a ridiculous upgrade. Now they have given up a player that could be an even younger Luka though in Knecht. These decisions will be interesting in the future.
I think JJ as Luka’s coach will help too. They already have a mutual respect and tho briefly, played with each other already. I hope JJ can break some of Luka’s bad tendencies.. arguing with the refs. Lakers already have defensive problems as you said, LeBron and Luka can’t waste any time trying to talk to a ref in live ball.

The Mavs are going to be in for a rude awakening. The reason all their centers shoot 70% from the field is because they're getting constant open dunks and layups that only a couple players in the NBA are able to create. They'll still be good, but nowhere near as effective. Kyrie can do it a little, but Luka is in the stratosphere with Jokic in terms of creative passing and drawing defense to open up the floor.

somebody posted a top 50 plays of “luka magic” and some of the plays granted camera angle did the trickery but some of the passes i literally could not believe. there were several that looked like 2k glitches and i was just in awe.
Personally, I think the Lakers are in the "If things break right" contender tier.
If healthy, Lakers' offense might have the most "staying power" in the playoffs simply because of Luka, Lebron and Austin + a bunch of role players who can finish plays.
What concerns me is the Lakers defense. Especially since it appears Mark Williams is not that good of a defender, extremely young with no playoff experience, and might be injury prone.
I guess we will see!

Mark Williams is a good defender but has been on a team where quite frankly it doesn’t feel worthwhile putting that extra effort on the defensive end in
@@ClareAmel From what I have seen in video breakdowns, Mark Williams has a tough time with drop coverage, not mobile enough to run other coverages, and struggles to handle big centers.
Pretty tough considering the centers and guards in the west.
Hopefully JJ Redick has a game plan to cover for his weaknesses.

@@HoopVenueWe’ve been great the last 2 games vs Knicks and Clippers with small ball lineup and even Hayes isn’t as bad as people think, we now have an army of big wings who can switch and Luka himself is 6’7 250+, then you have Bron, Vando, DFS, Rui, Hayes, C.Wood, Maxi Kleber … And if the small ball don’t work im sure Mark Williams will help with his rim protection, especially with better defender and smarter players next to him, they will hide his weaknesses and with the motivation to win a chip with his GOAT and idol Lebron im sure he’ll get to the next level, playing for Charlotte with a young Lamelo who play street ball is different than playing for the Lakers with freaking Lebron and prime Luka Doncic 😂
Luka doncic and Lebron can play together he can shoot now. He still can post up people. Now he can kick the ball out to Luka Doncic, who can catch and shoot and also shoot of the dribble he can put the ball on the floor, and he can create for himself and other people its perfect

As a Celtics fan the biggest benefit especially for Lebron at his age is that they can stagger minutes so that one or the other is on the floor at all times.

1. Not shopping Luka around the league for the best possible deal.
2. Even if the Mavs don't want to shop Luka because they don't want things to get messy...then how about not getting Dalton, 2030 pick swap, and the 2031 First Round Pick. Imagine not getting everything the Lakers have for a 25 year old superstar.
@Golden_PJ you have to understand the Lakers didn't have much to offer outside of AD all of their foreseeable 1st round picks were gone. Hence why they had to take the 2029. They specifically wanted AD and Max Christie was someone the Lakers definitely did not want to let go. Because he's one of the best young 1v1 perimeter defenders in the league. And he's clutch. But more importantly this had to be done without Mark Cuban knowing this was happening. Or he would've violently tried to stop it. The Mavs have a scary team at full health. With almost one of the best benches all of sudden. If you can somehow see klay coming off it with gafford. In the future when lively comes back

1. Kyrie isn't a good defender, I'd argue he's worse than AR (AR has more length than Kyrie), and yet Dallas made it work.
2. LeBron is only considered a bad defender due to effort, but when he locks in he's actually a very good defender still. If Luka can take more of the offensive load from LeBron, we should see him have more energy to put in on the defensive side of the ball.
Yes, some nights they'll be very poor defensively, but I think people are overestimating how bad they'll be. Put DFS and Vando (small ball) or Williams (big lineup), and they'll have enough defensive talent to cover the holes.
Remember, the Lakers have had a decent defense before with DLo, AR, LeBron, Rui, and AD as a starting lineup.
Are you telling me DLo is a better defender than Luka or that AD + Rui is significantly better than a combination of Vando/DFS/Williams? Yes AD is a DPOY level defender, but Vando is an elite wing defender (top 5 wing defense if you ask me) and Rui is a negative on defense, DFS is an above average defender, and Williams is an above average defender (I think he'll be better on the Lakers at defense than he was on Charlotte simply because he has extra motivation to try on that end now that he's on a contender).

Jared Vanderbilt is a great defender, so is Lebron, Shark Milton, Gabe, and Rui Hachimura, Finney-smith has also been great on defense recently because of his size. And Jaxon Hayes is a great shot blocker and very athletic and has great recovery. I’m not sure what you’re talking about but this is a pretty good defensive team.

They'll be top 3 for sure offensively. Luka does so much to get his teammates easy shots, as well as getting his own points. The funny thing is, despite him shooting so many 3s, he get a lot of his points inside (one of the best post players in the league) and gets good entry passes and lobs for his inside players to score. Dallas was routinely outscoring teams in the paint so even though they were 25th or lower in 3pt shooting, they were a top 5 offense before Luka got hurt.

Mark williams is probably the best roll playing traditional center in the NBA. I could be wrong but I’m a hornets fan and have watched every game he’s ever played pretty much and I can’t think of anyone else that is better for that lakers team.

I loved the breakdown..but honestly worried about how Reeves is gonna work now. I also like what Jaxson Hayes has been doing as of late. I wanna see Reeves Luka Brown Rui and Williams or Hayes play. But I low key feel Gabe might work a lil better. Or start with Reeves, sub out Bron or Luka after 5 mins..the sub Reeves for the one they took out and keep them going like that. Unless the trio works.

This move makes no sense to me. They’ve had success running a mostly forward switching defense. Why not go with that till the offseason. At least then you have access to a 2032 pick swap, the expanded salary cap, and a much larger market for lob threats.

Lakers seems to be playing a lot harder on the defensive side. Helps that we got dogs in Finney and Vando. Gabe seems to find himself again. I still think they need a bulkier Center behind Mark Williams. Especially in the playoffs.

Jaxson Hayes has become a great defender in the absences of AD, I wouldn’t be surprised if you see JJ changing the 5 depending on who the opponents are. Mark Williams won’t just walk into the team, there will be a fight for that position and Hayes happens to be very good in all the areas Williams needs work on, however offensively is not a match.
Luka / Lebron pick and roll should be otherworldly, Lakers supporting cast better hit those open three-point shots cuz there gonna be a lot of them

Vando also was navigating screens pretty well last night while covering Curry. Curry did pretty much all of his damage when he wasn't being guarded by Vando (he got a couple of lucky 2nd chance opportunities where Vando was no longer in position because he was streaking for an outlet pass or was crashing the rim - which left Curry open for a 2nd shot).
I agree with what you’re saying! I just think there’s a huge difference with 48 minutes of Lively/Gafford vs. what the Lakers have at the 5.
I’d also say that either one of DJJ or PJ makes a much larger defensive impact than the spot LeBron will be taking.
Only time will tell though!
@HoopVenue true, on paper Mark Williams shouldn't be as good defensively at the rim, but I have a suspicion that he'll actually elevate his defensive impact on the Lakers now simply due to him putting more effort on that side because he's now on a contender and not a lottery team.
It'll be fun to see what happens though. The fact that the Lakers have looked solid without AD and now also Max Christie, it makes me think they'll be fine once Luka shows up. Plus Vando has been incredible on the defensive since he came back. I think his intensity is honestly rubbing off on the rest of the team

I have watched what few videos I find of him and I lien his attitude and play. Injuries? The lakers are the best at helping players(Kobe, would have not made it past his knee issues in another team). LeBron making a screen for Luka. That's gonna be crazy. How are teams gonna handle that, I have no idea.
At very worst, they'll just stagger each other's minutes heavily if they can't play together well.
Then you will basically have LeBron running the 2nd unit and Luka running the 1st unit, with both of them closing the game.
