      You are 100% qualified to have an opinion if you watch games, are knowledgeable about the sport, can put stats into context and look at things with an open mind. This belief that you have to play to have an opinion is complete BS. The problem most fans have is they can’t separate their favourites from their statistics and often put players higher or lower than they deserve to be, because they like or dislike that player. For the record, I do agree with you about Hakeem - in the 90’s he was the best all around centre in the game. Yes Shaq put up better numbers in some categories but Shaq was very much a one dimensional player, while Hakeem could beat you in so many ways.

    • @rickbateman2401
      @rickbateman2401 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Godshonestruththe closest players to Wilt while he played were Nate Thurmond who averaged half as many points and half as many rebounds, or Bill Russell who average about the same number of rebounds and half the points. Those 3 players were head an shoulders above everyone else in the league. Any of the top 10 centres in the 80’s or 90s would have done what Wilt did in the 60s. Until the 70’s when players like Kareem started coming into the league, most of the centres in the NBA were lumbering hulks who could barely move and the rest of the league were a bunch of beer leaguers.

    This is one thing that the NBA is missing right now, post play.
    There are few good big guys in the league today, and most of them that are great play too much on the perimeter or from the three-point line. Guys today don't take advantage of their size.
    In today's game, Jokic is the only guy in my opinion that plays like a 90's big.
    Here is my top 5 centers and a few of honorable mentions.
    Top 5: Shaq, Wilt, Russell, Hakeem, Duncan.
    Honorable mention: Patrick Ewing, David Robinson
    I'm sure I am missing someone.
    But there were so many quality bigs and post players in the 80's and 90's.
    The strategy and post play made for interesting competitive basketball.

    Someone needs to do a synopsis on how well a player like Joker (skill set) would have done in the 90s. Because had Sabonis not been delayed by Politics and did transfer to the NBA in his prime, he would have been exactly that but with a little more explosiveness and grit. There is a potential for Sabonis to be g.o.a.t. status (amongst centers) if he had an earlier transition. He definitely would have changed the game or force progressed it.

    Also one of the most telling things I see when literally anyone ranks all time greats in anything is that the fact of whether they got a championship or not totally skews how they are ranked. This logic applies to all athletes except for King James who seemingly anoints himself as the GOAT when it is truly up to the fans and journalists to decide such things. Funny how LeBron can cry and flop his way through numerous series and then when he loses it’s always his teammates that screwed him over.
