    Being an artist means you never stop thinking. Your brain never essentially shuts down enough to give you a break and although this could be wonderful for coming up with new ideas and being extremely innovative in your craft; it makes life so much harder than it needs to be. Just imagine living in a constant state of complexity like that... that's what it's like to be an artist, you're always thinking, always creating...

    • @ziraprod6090
      @ziraprod6090 6 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      I think this is true.... however, now days even idiots, craftsmen, and plagiarizers, are called artists.

    • @lifeseek2530
      @lifeseek2530 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      everyone does think but what's really important is what kind of thinking you do I guess.

    • @83uwb
      @83uwb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      I don't think it has anything to do with the fact you're an artist, of course everything has its negative side to it, even something you love doing. But when it starts to make your life harder, then something else is probably going wrong.

    Art is wonderful. You will never find a more pure expression of the human mind.

    • @Miranox2
      @Miranox2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +letsgoiowa The word "art" is meaningless. You could take a urinal, put it in a museum, call it art and no one could prove you wrong. When everything can be called art, then the word has no meaning.

    • @logictruth1
      @logictruth1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      +Miranox more like when people forget to recognize art, it loses its meaning. Art is the highest and purest form of communication humans can perform and it saddens me that so many people do not understand it or its purpose.

    • @LyzLyzard
      @LyzLyzard 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +Miranox art is subjective

    • @logictruth1

      Art is far from subjective. Either something is artistic or it isn't. Taste is subjective. You can recognize art without particularly liking it.

    This is what I love about being an artist.
    The things that go on in our heads...some are amazing, others are really *really* stupid.
    But put our favorite art tools in our hands and give us a canvas and we will make you find our stupid ideas beautiful.
    The imagery in his pictures are amazing. I can just imagine them all swirling around, moving, changing, and growing in his mind and he just needed to sketch it all out before it became too big and beautiful to contain all in his head alone.

  • @gypsyart1125

    First impressions...
    there is a random abandon in this artist's work and a random abandon in the way he presented this Ted Talk. And yet... there is a methodical layering of little elements, little bits of life, meaning, contemplation, understanding, imagery, expression, etc, that creates a cohesive whole in the art and in the Talk. I think the randomness, the abandon, the methodical layering, all of it, speaks volumes about his process. You just have to peel back the layers in your process of discovery regarding this Talk just as the artist lays down the layers of imagery in his work. He speaks the same way as he creates, through layers.
    I see pockets of comments here that speaks to "not learning much" from this talk, of it looking "like a commercial" for this artists work............
    There is so much more here than meets the eye and or the ear.
    So stop, look, and listen :)
    Everything you need to glean from this Ted Talk is there for you to discover.
    This presentation is deeper than you think............ just look and listen for it.

    I feel like the term "Artist"is very broad. I'm a Creative Writing student and henceforth write frequently. I consider myself to be an artist of sorts or at least artistic in my work. Be interesting to see what other people think about my theory. An artist is not only someone with a paintbrush. It's when someone is given a blank canvas (I mean that in the both literal and metaphorical sense of the word) and creates something with it.

    • @lindamarialal
      @lindamarialal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Anyone who creates....is an artist

    • @WTFooLL
      @WTFooLL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You just discovered that? By the way, it's called a writer and when you write a text you become the author of this text. Same with a kid drawing on a piece of paper, the kid becomes the author. The word "artist" have many different perceptions to it, that's all there is to know.
      Nothing overly philosophical.

    • @drekirules
      @drekirules 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like your view, before I start, I think everyone has his own opinion on what art is, and that those opinions together define the term "art" so here comes my opinion on the definition of art: art is when an idea becomes an image. When an artist made a visual translation of his idea

    • @drekirules
      @drekirules 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t think most people see the world the way artists do. I can’t imagine seeing the world differently from what I do, but the older I’ve gotten the more I’ve realized that other people don’t really see or feel the same way I do. It’s weird and kind of indescribable to people who don’t experience it but I think artists see and feel the world a little more than normal people do

    (and not just about trying to appeal to collectors like many artists I happen to know)

    Great stuff, I love art that you can look at multiple times and still discover new things. I sold a piece called Separation, where there was a crying girl in the foreground with a river behind her crossing from left to right with a tree with no leaves in the background. Three mouths later he says to me you hid a male form in the branches of the tree it makes way more sense now, I just laughed.

      This piece of art sounds beautiful and mentally stimulating just from the description! I just sat here trying to picture it, then picture the realization of the hidden male form and the light bulb coming on like OOOOOooo! I love art that is kinda like optical illusions to eye

    I can see I’m not the only one with an idea of putting artists to-gather/together to express, like an excellent college seminar of prepared foundational dialogue, impressions & transmutations of ideas & potential production expansions beyond hyper-media idolatry or cultic religious regurgitation, so that we as humans can feel our inner-connectedness to all matter & therefore & thereby end our egotic suicide of masses of matter for any individual motivation; biomimicry is science & nature working eco-sustainably forward in a future that can exist without limitations once we get over the limitations of imbalanced, prejudiced energetic access through monetary limitation of exchange. We have the knowledge & the tools in this time space to create, cradle to cradle, sustainable future resourcing, let’s BE THIS NOW. Build each other up & expand through joy & love & play & imagination....one glass layer to our fullest boxed dimension at a time.

    See, this is what I also really love about being an artist
    And that is the aesthetically pleasing acid-trips I get once in awhile.

    Very nice art work, and various messages behind the pieces. Also, a great deal of time and dedication to this form of art, which I presume at first had resistance.

    Inspiring - video is from 2015 - seen it now - 2019. So, I wonder what the craziest new pieces of art he managed to create in the length of nearly 4 years gap [from then till now] Great stuff! Cheers o/
