In 1987 I purchased an '83 V45 Magna with less than 2,000 for $1,700 . It was Mint. Stored in a heated basement in the winters. I loved that bike then and still think about it even though I'm riding a '17 Breakout. Two completely different bikes.
@@REDonVFR It was perfect for me. My first bike. I'm only 5'6"and seat height was low. Smooth ride and always thought the king/queen seats were cool. Little sissy bar and a small rack for my weekends down the Jersey shore.
I am raiding the same Magna and I am happy 5 years. My magna is from 1986 and after one season of repairing is in very good condition . I has a two weeks trip to Croatia and return to my country 5000 km over the mountains, any problems, other bike has only the stop bulb’s changing

Author, didn't you see the DRAIN PLUG, in the form of a bolt, at the very bottom of the frame, on the left side, where the driver's left footrest is? In this model, the coolant flows inside the tubular frame!!!!
@@allanmcelroy9840I question it too. I suppose it’s a tube anyway so why not save some space and pipes and just use the frame… must make sure it’s never just water in the coolant system though and have anti freeze with some rust inhibitors..
@@Addison0526 the coolant only flows into the frame when you drain the radiator. there is not coolant in the frame at all times, so you don't need to worry about anything rusting in your frame. the engineers did this to make draining your coolant mess free! remove the beauty shrouds from the radiator and you gain access to the drain valve at the bottom. with the drain plug in the frame out, the rad cap removed, and a pan under the bike, turn the valve and the coolant will flow out through the frame into your drian pan. super ingenious way to service the radiator without leaving any mess
got magna today but i cant do anything for now..its winter the guy i bought from he said he didnt use the motor for 10 years...and it runs before...what do i need to check before start ..do i need to put lubrication in the piston?
Fogging oil in the cylinders for sure. Then take one of the covers off, to get to the nut to spin it by hand (left side I believe). If the engine spins then you're good to give it an oil change also. You may hear sucking noises due to compression buildup and release. That's a good sign.
@@calibflory7657 could be a weak spark. Maybe the pilot passages are clogged. See if the bowls have gas in them by loosening the overflow screw on all 4.
They were de-stroked after 1983 because the United States put a tax (pressured by Harley) on bikes 700cc and above because the import competition was smoking the domestic bikes. So they went from 45ci to 42ci or ~750cc to ~700c while keeping the same peak power and torque.
