I owned a 83 V65. Loved it! Was my first bike. I need another. But you definitely need the upgrades, such as the external oil pump. I killed mine cause of not having this piece on it. Plus hope to god you never have to open that engine. It’s a nightmare. Also scrounge for as many of the specialty tools for it. They are definitely necessary
Glad to see a young man have passion for the OG muscle bike, the legendary V65 Magna. You have great taste in bikes. Im looking forward to replacing my engine this spring. My 84’ through a rod straight through the crank case while riding at 80 mph, was lucky it didn’t lock up and kill me. I hope you choose to keep it and get many years and miles on yours. Good job getting it running.
I'm glad that you like it!!! I still have mine 1984 Honda V65 magna ever since I was 13 year old. I had to beg my father to buy me one cause my friend had one. I'm 53 year old and I'm original owner and still have it sitting in my computer room. It has 13,375 miles on it. Every blue moon I get it out and ride it to enjoying myself. Still love it tho.
Way to go Dude !!! You made a great video. If this is your first go with the Magna I know how stoked you are. I bought a VF 700c 1984 Magna in November 1983. She was sweet. Only problem I had was pitted cams and Honda replaced all 4 of them for free - no questions asked. No problems the whole time I owned it. It still rode and looked like it came off the showroom floor. I messed up in 1991 by selling it. It lasted in perfect condition by always following the service maintenance instructions, regularly washing and continually riding it like I stole it. I know you’re gonna have a blast. Thanks for sharing. Keep the shiny side up. 👍👍👍👍👍
I have a 85 v65magna I bought new in 86 I have 72.000 miles on it and still ride it all the time.every thing you say in your test ride video is what I think every time I ride it,Awesome video I loved it.
My mother just gave me my father's 83 v65, heartbreaking that he is battling dementia so can no longer longer ride, Its been sitting since 92 cause life got in the way, its inside for all but about 2 of those years, I have great memories of him picking me up from elementary school on it, I plan to restore it. I have some health issues to check out but if all goes well will have to learn to ride first, then graduate up to a bigger one should take a couple years and bikes I'm planning to take me time learning to do is safe and when I'm good the mag wile be ready to ride occasionally. Will be following your channel on these, stay safe.
You did a good job sticking with it and getting it running. I owned an '85 V-65 Sabre for 10 years, it was in near perfect shape, and ran like a beast ! Someday soon you will have that set of carbs that does not need removed 10 times, cuz you will get better every time you work on bikes :)
I’m buying my uncle’s magna v65 this weekend. It needs new tires, rear turn indicators, and a new carb which he has in a box. So hopefully I can get it running before the end of the weekend and registered to ride by next week.
Im gonna add this, the V 65 was one of those bikes you could do anything with. Commute, fun rides. Throw a gym bag on the back, maybe a backpack, could take off for a vacation. I got one in my sites, im so close to making a bad decision and buying it. Put it in the garage next to my zx 14.
It's nice to see a younger guy appreciate the old Honda's. I use to work at a Honda Dealership back in the mid-late 80's. I got to look at and play with many of the old Great Honda's from that era. The Magna's were ALL sweet, but my real love was the VFR's. My Dream bikes are my current 2015 Honda VFR800, a 1986 Honda VFR 750 and a 1986 Honda V65 Magna. My first bike was a 1983 Honda Night Hawk 550. ( I use to hate those little V-twin Shadows..LOL!) - More old Honda videos Please!
NICE....it is a nice nice nice bike....DON'T get rid of it! BUY as much parts as you can KEEP IT!... I just restored a 1984 VT750C Shadow...MINT now and that was in Feb 2024 I started...I just got back from a road trip from Northern Ontario Canada to Cohocton New York on it! WILD JOURNEY....WILD RIDE....LOVE it....
One of the more underated chanel ... big support from belgium ! I've a channel and i make a racing mower and do some easy mechanics on a lot of vehicule !
Here's a tip. When trying to start the bike for the first time, like you are around 13:20, spray some starting fluid into the air box first. It will fire off and start vacuum which will get help get the gasoline where it needs to go quicker, without draining the battery or heating up the starter. This works for me every time.
@@tabletop45 And it also has a vacuum operated shutoff valve, also known as a "petcock". Without vacuum from a running engine, the bowls never see a drop of fuel.
I LOVE THE THINGS U GUYS R DOIN WITH THE V 45 BRINGIN IT BACK TO LIFE . JUST GOT MY DREAM 45 NEEDS A LIL TLC N A FEW HOSES N TANK N BATTERY YOU GUYS R A BIG HELP THUMBS UP TO YA GUYS I APPRECIATE YA GUYS
Nice video, maybe if possible put in some of the tearing down the carbs and other footage. You might think a lot of the video you shot is boring, but the mechanical viewers love that stuff. My first bike was a 1984 Honda magna V-45. Magna's are definitely legends. Like your video style and just want more detail. Keep it up I think you can definitely be a TH-cam giant if you want to be. Looking forward to seeing more about this magna and hopefully others. Good stuff, good luck!!!!
Oh those things would piss and get for sure! I test drove one back in 1986 in Columbus, MS. But I had a new wife and couldn't afford it...Air Force didn't pay that good back then.
My favorite bikes. I had a 83 V65 and a 86 750 years ago. I drive a vtx 1300 c now and love it and got to love honda too!! I want to put floor boards on the front of my vtx c. Any videos on that Tyler? You live in nc?
I have my sights set on a V65 as well, but in the Sabre variety. I just don't care for the low slung, high handlebar look of the Magna. However, I DO have an 87 700 Super Magna.
First thing to go would be the POS Buckhorn handlebars. Wobbly ass handling and steering. They came in my Suzuki Intruder 1400 and was the first thing that was changed out.
I've got the exact same bike. Got a nice 4-1 supertrapp exhaust and the dude I got it from threw in stacks of boxes of spare parts. Pretty sure I have like 3-4 clusters lol. Had an older neighbor tell me my v-twin is revving too high and it sounds like shit haha, little did he know. Love Hondas, hate the wheezy exhaust sound ALL their bikes make lol. These Magnas though... Cruise at ~5k and still have another 5k of the angriest horses Honda ever made ready to turn you into a literal missile. Shit, I'm gonna go ride mine now. 17:28 I do the same thing, sound and all 😂
What’s your dream bike?
Anything VFR! 👍👍
VF 700c & VF 65. Early 2nd generation.
83 v65 Magna! Wanted 1 since high-school and the Lord threw one my way! She's old but runs awesome!
This one

A V65? At 13 years old??! Lucky kid.
Yes, and still got it in the bedroom. It actually computer room. Lol...
13k miles in 40 years?.... poor thing never got used
@@baucelabs1159 standard mileage for an "around town" bike that gets mostly used on the weekends. my Harley Dyna had 20k on the odo.

love seeing a killer cool bike kept from being scraped.

I have a 1986 Honda Shadow 700 [ran last year] seller told me but in fact did not it took me 3 months to get it running
I had an 84' V65 Sabre. I did the same thing my first time. Forgot to synce the carbs.😮

Love your patience and passion, good work. Love Honda Magna's!

I might buy a V65 Magna within a week. Planning to drive to see it next week. Great video!
Looks alot like my experience reviving my 1986 VF700c. Fuel issues and electrical issues.

I've got an 82 750 V45 and I love everything about it except the tiny main tank.
That was a great video!! Your patience and skill are amazing. The V65 is one of the greatest bikes ever made. Don't ever get rid of it!!
I still have my 84 that I bought new. Love that bike. My Dad drives it now

I owned that same bike back in the day. Mine dyno'd at 96 hp to the wheel. These motors are unbelievable.

these are supposed to have an electric fuel pump to send gas to the carburetors

had an '85 v65. loved that bike. it wasn't vmax fast but it was still stupid fast.
Awesome video love the old Hondas
Had a 86 shadow 500 at 16 years old way back and always dreamed of owning the v65 ... sweet bike man

this is the real super magna

The auxiliary tank has screw in the bottom that you can drain the fuel that way
No way! That would have been useful to know.
Great job budy ..
Miss my V65.

Great content! Can you do a video or explain how you print these gaskets? Sounds really useful
Always a good idea to back flush the radiator and block.
Love it!❤
Very cool

Just starting to restore my 84 V65 VF1100C
Are u planning to keep it stock or do maybe a cafe racer build?? Cause I'm planning to do a cafe racer of my 750 cc
If you replace all the fuel lines that is ideal. Especially the large one between the big tank and small one.
Just bought and 84 from the old man down the road for 300 just needs new fuel pump and lines
Does the clutch use brake fluid
Yes
@jackblock777 thanks I wasn't sure only hydrolic clutch I've messed with was on a ktm 300 exc and it uses mineral oil
I want it!
What filament did you use to print gaskets?
Hatchbox TPU
I recently traded a 1986 trx350 for a 1983 V65
Excellent
Nice but you should try your bike out of your block, to be nice with the neighborhood
Ive always wanted a V65 there are some real cheap here where i live but they look like they need some work, but there is no good mechanics here so...
I just bought one for 500.
Someone needs to figure out a fuel injection system for these
goggles.
The best !!! Had 3=====83 84 and own 86 now If you know you know
We have a 84 saber 750. And a 84 v 65 1100
