Wow all that and didn't start it thanks for saying how amazing it sounds

Just bought an 85 to be my first bike, can't wait to get riding

Do you have a link to the center stand kit? Also a link to the top box on the VFR, It would be much appreciated
@@roninlavallee6076 if you are from the states, then you are out of luck. You can follow my part list that I posted on my Instagram page. If you are from europe, then there is a kit that I don't have much information about.
The top box is GIVI B 37
do you think there is enough room to stack two, i just feel like my shoulders are hurting at the end of a ride because it needs to come back further
@@slowrider05 there is absolutely no space for two. The handles will not be on top of the shocks which is very dangerous. One of the options is to have a solid handle bar that has a deeper clamping area (taller bar).
Great memories from the 80's. The 400T was so cool back in the day, reliable and nimble and is still cool today. My GF at the time loved riding pillion and held on tight, worked for me too! I often wonder what is the modern equivalent. The Rebel 500 is the closest, but somehow doesn't have the character.
@@steveh7823 As I understand, Honda doesn't make any standard motorcycles any longer. The last one was cb1100. Only Royal Enfield still does. The rebel is put closer to a Shadow.
have you sold the bike yet???
No. It was sold in August.
May I ask what handlebar, mirror, and master cylinders you changed to. Im wanting to do the same!

@@REDonVFR had to modify the bucket or the LED headlight? Ive had to trim LED heatsinks for fit, easy enough. I have a CM400T I just refurb'd and it's a fun little bike. Your is beautiful! Love the panniers!
@@joelmunger2395 thanks! I had to cut the tab that is used to adjust the headlight. All you need is a bucket with its bezel and led headlight. That is what I had to do with mine.
@@REDonVFR thats a tab on the LED headlight or on the Honda bucket? I haven't received my LED nor removed the sealed beam so I don't know the internals yet.
@@joelmunger2395 on the bezel. You can see it on stock bucket.
The video skipped the part where you attached the metal coolant tubes to the water pump after the pump was bolted down. Were you able to get the tubes back on like that or did you have to drop the exhaust as the service manual says? or did you pull the pump and hook them back on before re-installing the pump? Thank you
@@uncleal13 Had to pull the headers off. Was sweating bullets before I did that. Lots of swearing later the pump was attached.
@@REDonVFR Working on a 1995 that I just bought. previous guy had it apart to change the o-ring and gasket but couldn't it back together.
@@uncleal13 It isn't complicated. With the pipes removed it's a breeze.
I was able to do it my taking off the radiator mount bolts as i needed to replace the short lower hose anyway. Then I bought a really small 1/4" dr mini ratchet that was able to get in to undo the outer metal coolant line from the water pump. The inner one I was able to use a long wobble extension through the exhaust pipes. I have to bike on the road now. It was parked for 7 years when I got it.
@@uncleal13 excellent! Now it will last for another 20 years.
That fuel guage is a little deceptive, 1/2 tank is right behind the Full indicator but as I'm sure you've noticed the needle doesn't start moving down until you've ridden 80-100 miles then it seams to drop rapidly. I routinely take mine down to the empty mark and never had to add more than 3 gallons, meaning it still had a gallon left. There are 2 tanks on the bike with the second tank hidden under the seat.
@@Big_John_C yes, just like the big brothers such as magnas and gold wings they all have those tank configurations. And yes, like most bikes of that era, the fuel gauge is almost a gimmick very deceptive. I'm used to my brothers vt750dc, I'd fill it up every 100 miles as the tank is tiny.
I bought mine in the spring of 86 and still have it. Only 39,000 miles on it because the first 20 years I worked too much to ride it. It's always been 100% dependable though not real comfortable for taller riders because of the mid controls.
🙂 neat, that bike looks like my old Kawasaki 454 LTD, i been looking at the craigslist motorcycle ads, I found a 1988 Shadow 1100 for sale, it has both exhaust pipes coming out on the Right Hand Side, i think it looks 'cooler' having both exhaust pipes on the right hand side, i think they kept it like that into modern times as well. Do you know what year the big block shadows transitioned the exhaust pipes? thanks for the review broh
@@MrSamadolfo to be honest, I'm not sure. But what are the beers to be, is that those twin pipes on one side are from 1986 or as they are called American Classic.
@@REDonVFR 🙂🇺🇸 American Classic is Cool 😎

I recently purchased the same bike as you have.72000 mi runs perfect. The more I ride the more I like it. Only had on the road couple of days. Plenty of power everything works. Mine has a few more add on . Crome wrap bars ,trailer hitch, crome bars on front fender. Funny thing , my front fender is cracked in the same place yours is. Must be a thing. Are you still riding yours?
@@grayfox128151 Thanks for a cool comment! I'm glad you're pleased with it. I do like mine also and might make it as my permanent bike for long distances. I currently don't have it registered as I go through it with a moderate overhaul including a new rewired Bluetooth sound system with new speakers and a subwoofer, elimination of those cracks and a potential full body respray.
How do u do the clutch rod oil seal
I do t think I need to do it, but I'd assume you have to put a screw through it and pull it.
Where did you get the handlebars?
@@chancebrown7541 Amazon. Anxin 7/8"
these bikes are to sporty for saddle bags and luggage racks. disgraceful
I bet your bike runs garbage with that monstrosity of an excuse for a exhaust can.
Nice example of the early Shadows.
Great video ,when youve put lid on reservoir after doing brakes i presume you just pump brake lever to put the pressure back in.
By pumping brake lever the fluid fills cavities where it should be and pushes the air out. There is no "air pressure" but only under the lid. This way the system is closed and uses only air/vacuum that is there. So, there is no need to pump the lever, maybe only to check if everything was done and sealed correctly.
Does it run?
Check out my vt1100c playlist to see how well it runs.
I can't understand why Indian no longer offers this motorcycle in "Indian Red." It's truly the perfect color, just like the old Indians. By the way, I appreciate mentioning the measurements in the metric system as well.
I am kinda jellaous, they got that classic 80s vibe on this one just right. I also think it suits the taller guys the best compared to other cruisers from this era, for example Yamaha Virago 1100? How is parts availability, for example carb diaphragms, water pump, clutch, ...? Does it have fuel pump, or are the carbs just bellow the fuel tank bottom with peacock?
The best feature to me is the exhaust header on the left side that curves around the engine side cover. It is somewhat tall but nothing bad. The parts are available and it is possible to find a donor bike. It does have a fuel pump as the main portion of the tank is under the seat. It is reminiscent of a magna of the same time.
This is the coolest bike I’ve ever seen!
Love the shadow series. Some of the best cruisers bikes ever made.I definitely going to buy one. Much peace ✌️
Hello. Great bike. Got one just like it. Shocks are adjustable with tool in the tool pouch. I had one in 1990 and bought another 10 years ago. That motors way stronger than the brakes and suspension. It’s easy to get in trouble. I think this is the best shadow made. The 1987 were uncomfortable and slightly detuned so less powerful. The 1983 750 shadows were great but impossible to find a good one now. Enjoy the bike and put the chrome mirrors back on it. Lol. Don’t let it sit too long or carbs will gum up. I got to take mine in. It’s hard to find old guys that know how to make them purr.
I'll definitely miss it. I kept it as well if not better than the original owner. I'm glad it runs superb so I didn't have to do the cards on it. One of the few I didn't have to do mechanical work, only regular maintenance.
Super clean
No windshield yet? Btw, mine`s quite a bit faster and it sounds a bit more mature
The bike was sold last summer.
Give it a medium windshield! Bought me a -81 the other day and a windshield "transformed" the bike totally. Way more relaxing to ride, not just in highway speeds
Fun BIkes
The weight makes them super cool and easy to ride. At times it felt like I rode a bicycle.
Damn bruh you must have had a huge dooby cause you spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME GETTING TO THE POINT. Those grips are amazing compared to solid rubber, first thing I ever changed on my '82 XJ1100J MAXIM. I've always liked the looks of the '85-86 VT1100, looking seriously at getting one immediately, the new(to me) Harley Dyna is acting up as the previous owner replaced the carburetor but I think it has a garbage tune.
Well, I don't smoke anything. Also, as I mentioned a long time ago, I wasn't born in the US and English isn't my mother tongue.
This engine will START to produce it`s power from 6000rpms. 2:44 "small wheelbase.." I have a CBR600 outside, next to my CM400T.. It has ca the same wheelbase 10:00 man you`re not too smart..
Have a 2016. The rake is shallower and even though it's at 850ish lbs., it handles like a much lighter bike. Sure, if you are at a standstill, it's heavy, but once you're moving, it is smooth sailing. I have stage 2 cams in mine with TABs and it pulls hard, great bike!
It is indeed a great bike. Hopefully one day I can score me one of these. The chieftain is the goal.
Great bike !!! I have a 1986 VF500F2, I just uploaded a small video if you want to see. I do have a small issuse with it, when battery is contected, then all 4 indicators are on, (and I can hear a relay clicking) also if I take out the indicator relay.
Can't wait to ride it. I'd say you have a faulty relay. Mine wasn't blinking when using the turn signals. I bought one from eBay (not original) and repined it as the wires were different. Now turn signals work but don't click which doest bother me. P.s. I did watch your video. Nice 750 also 👍
These handlebars are called buckhorn style. On this particular bike they are a hybrid performance-cruiser buckhorn. The bars are correctly adjusted when they are pulled back as far as possible(no matter how tall the rider is). When the handlebars are at full turn they should be close to hitting the fuel tank. This puts your wrists in a comfortable neutral position and lowers your center of gravity.
Cannot have them back, they hit your knees when turning full lock at low speeds
@@Big_John_C just spread out your knees.
Tengo la misma año 86 en Argentina, una moto increible
How many decibels does it give? In Sweden, we must not make more than 95 decibels on the track
I'm sure it is going to be louder than 100 on the track as there isn't much baffling in the pipe.
Thanks

I’d rather hear the wrenches turning and the sounds of you working on the bike than that annoying music. Had to stop the video 9 minutes in 😂. I would have muted it, but I gotta hear what you’re explaining. Great job! Thank you for saving these awesome old bikes.
I bought the 1st one delivered to the US.... in fact dealership wouldn't let me take it home until they got their next one in and paid me to let them leave it in their showroom..... The emblem on motor covers are NOT original to the bike as well as the mirrors. Looks like front brake chrome cover is also aftermarket. Beautiful bike and still to this day I regret selling mine with less than 10,000 miles.
Good to know! I was wondering what those brake caliper covers were. I saw those on the 78 GL1000 also.
@REDonVFR.... there were aftermarket chrome covers and emblems, and stainless steel braided lines sold once the 1986 bikes came in. If I recall, at the time, the center of seat to ground was only 18 inches, and the lowest center of gravity on any production bike in its era. The bike was built to be a Harley Sportster clone, and in fact, I believe Harley sued Honda for copyright ©️ infringement, and Honda made a few cosmetic changes to the bike to drop the lawsuit. This particular 1985 was the best Shadow ever built and was a Harley killer. Only if Honda had put a more radical exhaust (to mimic HD) their sales would have gone through the roof. I punched out the baffling in mine, and it definitely gave it a more "throaty" sound. These bikes would run circles around Harleys and never leaked oil or break down on long road trips. Unfortunately, I couldn't ride with the "Harley boys" because I had a "Japbike".... lol Didn't bother me at all because most rides I took with the "Harley boys" were spent "stoppin" every 40-50 miles so they could fix something that broke on their bikes..... In fact, I got in quite a few heated arguments with the HD boys that parts of their bikes were made in Japan, and then they'd want to fight due to their ignorance 🙄 Enjoy that bike man it's a beautiful piece of art and history 👌
@REDonVFR ....I think I paid $5500.00, and it's probably worth 10 times that now (if it's still around) since it was serial #0001. I sold it to a serious buyer/ headhunter collector, and it only had about 9800 miles on it.... Still sick, I sold it but had 2 small children and a mortgage, and it was a death machine.... I rung the speedometer off @ 140 mph after getting in an argument with the ex.
I'm fixing this same bike for a buddy. It's got 49k...sat for a few years. Not as clean as yours. Those are not original mirrors. Really dig those derby covers. Nice bike 👍
@@fxrmike5145 Well done. Hopefully you can find all missing parts.
I think this Magna is THE baddest bike I've ever seen.

Good choice! It's a fun bike to ride, it shares the engine with the VF500F interceptor that I'm currently restoring. Power to weight ratio is great!
I had an 86 Voyager that was in pristine condition. The only downfall I had with it is that it needs a sixth gear. 3 years ago, I sold it whenever I purchased a 2012 Voyager 1700. One thing I can definitely say about the 86 is I could whip that thing around like a sports bike. That thing was Nimble as hell.
I absolutely agree that it is really nimble. I even scraped the foot pegs as I cornered too sharply. Had to back off a bit 😂
What are the part numbers for the seals ?
Per Kawasaki service manual it's 92055. Shouldn't cost more than $10.
