- Ever find FAKE Pokemon Cards!? Here are 5 TIPS to help spot them from a mile away! Did I miss one? Let me know in the comments!
One tip not mentioned is the light test, which may or may not work depending on the card stock. A fake card tends to allow more light to shine through. Make sure to use the other tips too!

You missed the light test, which works better than ripping a card ;)
Same effect. As I mentioned in a comment above, the core is meant to make a card less translucent. If you use your phone’s light, a real card will block it out pretty well. A fake card will be almost entirely transparent.
Very good video
That with the colour on the back wa very helpfull
Thank you, because when i compared my base set pokemon cards to my new ones, they looked different, but since you said wizards of the coast was not good at printing, it could look different from newer ones so thanks!
Left fake right real 2sec
If you have a jeweler's loupe. you can actually see the layers of a real card and a fake one. When you take a look at it using a loupe you can see the front, the middle black layer and the back. Since the light test isn't reliable at all times, especially when testing WOTC era cards.
Great video and also it kinda scared me because I thought you were going to rip the shadowless dratini too so we could see the black core. I was like nooo and then you pulled out the energy and I breathed a sigh of relief. Please more videos
Make sure to sub! We just did one yesterday and we put out lots of vintage vids too
seriously my son is so happy to tell the 2 differences thank you.
Probably the best viedeo to spot fakes ever
It's also off center as hell. Didn't happen with old cards but common nowadays unfortunately...
The light test
TYSM!! Now I know if my cards are my fake or nah☕
Good info. Thanks for the knowledge.
Misprints can also effect the shades... But still an interesting video
Great video. Very helpful.
I went to a flemarket and bought a base set nidoking. The guy had many real cards that I bought so I thought it was real. Then I realized it was discolored and a lot darker than a normal one. I researched to see if it was real. Then I put a flashlight behind it and realized holo beneath the card. I think it’s fake but I’m not sure.
Best of luck! If you can clearly see through the card then it is most likely fake
@@joervintagepokemon6976 thanks I also loved the part where you showed the base set two cards because I had concerns mine was fake the back is a lot lighter than the other cards. Thanks 🙏
Just found the 4 dollar base set pikachu I bought is real
I traded for one of them named pikachus and when I did the light test, you could see the whole back.
I’d appreciate some help I opened a etb celebrations box and got 2 professor oak full art cards I decided to rip one it did have some dark lines inside but the entire card could peel off and white was behind it when I did that is it real or fake I’d really apricots the help
I got a base set ivysaur and after watching this video I know that it is real
Can you actually see the black core from the sides of the card?
I've started collecting again and I have some that have the discoloration issue on the back you mention. But I'm noticing if you look closely It feels like you can see the extremely thin black line from the inner lining. Any input on that?
Also, Excellent video! Thank you for doing this
I do not believe the black core is typically visible from the side of the card. There is almost always something else to tip off the card is fake.
@@joervintagepokemon6976 Sweet, I think what I'm seeing is just the space where the two parts (front and back) of the cards meet together. Was just curious as I have some cards that I'm fairly confident are real, but I'm in my own head thinking they might be fake xD
You can also do the light test instead of ripping it. The core is meant to make the cards less transparent, so fake cards will be much more transparent than real cards
also, does it matter if the red of the poke ball is redder/ oranger (im not this bad at talking in real life), and the border is different width's?
All cards should be the same size, but borders and color can vary slightly. Look for other factors to determine for sure if a card is real or fake.
Okay.. i bought this base set 2 Meowth, the font is right, the color SEEMS right, the text is right, it passed the lantern test, but the back of it is a lot more vibrant compared to my modern cards, is that normal?
Could not honestly say but a base 2 meowth is hardly worth being worried about. A fake is worth almost as much as a real one.
@@joervintagepokemon6976 hahahahaha, but the thing is, i'm just starting my collection and i was hyped to have a vintage card
Great video!
thank you~
What about EX cards and rare cards?
its going to get harder and harder to tell with the tech out there and A.I
Just received my first fake card from Ebay. So sad that people feel the need to be liars.
Sorry to hear that!
Did you get your money back
I subscribed
hey man did you get that japanese zard that you cracked back?
