  • I'm testing out the mechanical broadhead from Thorn. These heads have hidden blade technology that deploy on upon impact. These flew perfectly fine for me. If you're looking for a new mechanical broadhead, I'd encourage you to take a look at these.

The intro was great! i picked up a pack of these at the same outdoor show, i really like the design with the hidden blades.

Slightly different concept to a normal mechanical. I hope you have success with them, my preference is fixed blades, no moving parts or things you have to replace or worry about like collars and clips. I'll add I finally had my bow properly tuned this past year and WOW!!! What a difference in accuracy from my field points and broadheads which are fixed.

These are great broadheads ! They do sale a tool for getting the spent rubber pin out of the ferul.

I'd have to say they are pretty darn good! I just need to send one through a deer!

These broadheads have a good design from what i see, i picked a pack up at the outdoor show as well. i like them because the blades are within the ferrule during flight, they should be accurate! i have done well with rage hypodermics so far but the blades sometimes rattle in the quiver (rarely). lets hope the Thorn performs as advertised. also the blades on the thorn cant get caught on stuff when pulling the arrow from a quiver or moving through brush while stalking.

I agree. I certainly had no accuracy issues. I got tired of the Rage blades rattling when drawing back and just coming apart constantly. Won't be an issue with these. Let me know how they work in the field! Good luck!

Love your video's. I just bought two packs of the Thorn HPX to try out with my Tenpoint Nitro XRT. If they perform well I'll use them this deer season, but I can't wait to poke one in a turkeys head this coming Spring season.
I'm also looking at the new Rage Hypodermic NC for my crossbow too. If you get a chance, could you do a review on them.
    Thanks

Should have done the sheer pin test on your scale!

I’m sure they fly true, but they won’t have the penetration of a cut on contact. Probably a good choice for a windy day.

They should fly more quietly as well

They're blunt. Better hit straight on.

The tip alone pushed me away from them. Reminds me of the old tru fire broadheads. The tip was the weakest link and hindered penetration and angled shots. Good luck with them but I'll stick with my rage hypodermic nc's.

It's gotten ridiculous. But, as long as the consumers keep falling for their marketing, they'll all keep releasing new "latest/greatest" year after year. And by continually releasing a "new improved" model, what they are really doing is admitting their previous ones were inferior.

@@zzz7zzz9 right! Before long theyll have blades popping out of the arrow shaft all the way to the fletching! Ive used the same heads for 15 yrs & they never hardly let me down.i just recently switched over to a crossbow & started looking at broadheads because the mechanicals ive been using for 15 yrs cant take the force & open in flight.that being said i was lost when looking for a broadhead suitable for my crossbow because there were so many different options.its just crazy! I ended up buying shwaker & killed 1 deer with it & shot them at a target a few times.they fly great & did not open until i hit my mark.thank goodness i found 1 i like on my first try.i cut grass for a livin & cant afford to try a bunch of different heads.i found a knock off version of shwakwr on ebay.$12.00 for 10 heads.i will defintly be buying a pk.

@@ninjagodzilla6402 I've been using Swhacker. I've found they are accurate out to about 35 yards. Then after that they start floating enough that its a problem. The angle the head is on effects if they go high or low.

@@Sides580 you know, i wandered about that.i started lining mine strait up & down with my fletching.i have shot at 40 with them practicing only.i mainly hunt thickett edges but ocasionly ill take a 40-50 yrd shot.try turning ur blades strait up & down.u may get a little left to right movement.but not enough to detere the shot placement i wouldnt think.unless the wind is realy whippin.ive taken 6 deer now with them & none have ran pass 50 yrds.mostly 30-40 yrds. & there done.good luck my friend.stay safe out there.

They have a rebuild kit on their site for the fixed broadhead (the “crown”) but not the mechanicals. I wonder why.

@@PlatonicVoyeur because the blades on the mechanicals are held in place with a drift pin, and you have to send them back
