When Spielberg started looking at me at 12:53, something clicked instantly. He's the reason why I wanted to become a filmmaker. It's wonderful to see him talking directly to you in order to inspire you. Those 20 seconds are all you really need.
"I'm more interested in the storyteller that doesn't know anything about where to put the camera, than someone who knows everything about the camera, but nothing about the story process." - Steven Spielberg
I don't care what religion, or no religion, one person follows. I have no reason to hate a person because of that. That's their choice. Tom just seems like a cool, genuine, hard working guy. I would love to just chat with him.
So you've been watching him act in movies..so you must really know Tom the person. If you don't like him, that's your choice but stop acting like you have some great insight to who he really is. LOL
it's great just listening these two masters talk about their craft. you can tell they both genuinely love what they do, and love talking about it. i could listen to a master class of either all day.
My one and only close encounter with Spielberg was at the recording session for the movie Poltergeist. I was a studio singer for 60 years and was part of the chorus on that s film, score d brilliantly by Jerry Goldsmith. We had finished with the majority of the work and the women were asked to stay and sound like children for the closing credits, singing the little girl’s theme. Steven came in dressed in jeans and a baseball cap to approve and loved what we did. He came over to thank us and was very affable. A nice memory.
Thanks, Steven and Tom. A fledgling occasional director myself, watching and listening to you, Steven, makes me realize how much I AM like you, but also how much I am, as you said "an original". I can dance around a subject with a camera as well as anybody. Am having more trouble finding my "voice", in the material, and what I am trying to SAY WITH the material, as well as entertain. Thanks for the inspiration!
He was almost Cliff Booth in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. I don’t think he and DICaprio would’ve worked well. Both are leading men. It would’ve been like DICaprio and Matt Damon in The Departed. Those two didn’t get along like Vin Diesel and The Rock didn’t get along on Fast and Furious franchise. DICaprio and Brad worked much better.
The part where Steven talks about how to start making movies, should be the introduction to every movie-making class in the world. Because he nails the definition of good movie-making. And I would probably fail that class, but I'd also try again. :D
I am a student at uni who is watching to become a film director and I would have to say that I am again inspired by the brilliance of Stephen Spielberg! That would have to be the best film making advice I have ever heard.
Wow. When I clicked on this video I wasn't expecting all this incredible dialogue from both Steven. He's so inspiring and given his legendary status I didn't expect him to seem so down to Earth.
Saw it in the cinema, the ferry sequence is the best. Thought the 2nd half dragged on, didn't rate it that highly but I appreciate it more now. Its true to the spirit of the novel as a straightforward survival story amid an alien invasion.
Steven Spielberg directed 3 great movies in the 70s Duel (1971), Jaws (1975) and Closer Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977) the man is a legend and he still is today
Hi Master Tom, sow good and glad to see your excellency, i am sorry am to late , and a nice to meet your honor Master Steven Spielberg , thank you very much and God bless all.

Steven Spielberg is a superb movie maker, probably the best ever. My only criticism, however, is that sometimes his aliens are more goofy than terrifying, breaking the suspension of disbelief.

It's interesting. I do like Tom Cruise, but it's weird watching him speak; it's almost like he's reading from a script (which is good for movies, and he's a good actor), but when he's in an interview it looks like he's over-composed.
he usually comes across likeable to me but in this instance here with the legendary Steven Spielberg he seems a tad nervous/worrisome. I think he just respects the hell out of Spielberg to be honest
Poor Tom, he can't win for losing. I've never heard the term "over-composed". He's relaxed and that's how you want to come across in an interview. He catches hell for his work in Scientology but if you know his personal history it seems to have done him a lot of good.
What's my German/Irish, brought up in Kentucky and Colorado, version of Schindler's List lol? My movies at the time were creature devours people and war movies, very dark, dealing with the fact that I, like you, Steven, was being picked on at school and had a lot of anger in me. Now, at age 47, I've experienced a bit more love, and also watched my brother die, which kinda hollowed me out, but my sense of humor is returning...hmmm...
I'd have a crush on Tom Cruise if I weren't afraid he'd dismember me after the first date. His dead eyes stare into your soul and his fake smile says "I have no real feelings behind this mask. Only bloodlust."
Tom cruise's answer for the way he picks his projects was genuine and advice for anyone who wants to do something great with his life.

He was.
he was doing that to put tom cruise at ease
He's telling you not to do it like them, do it like you.
Minority Report is the film that opened my eyes to real filmmaking and amazing plot twist, I saw it when I was 12, they both did great in it.
The way they tell and show the lost of a son gets me every time. And i don’t have children. Great storytelling
That was a great and a very professional discussion.I would easily hang out with them and listen to them talk about movies.
Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg, & John Williams, great trio collabed in two films! War of the Worlds and Minority Report!
