Here is another trivia: Evrything in the movie being rushed meant VFX artists had to work around the clock for months in order to deliver the shots in the short deadline. It was done basically as a favor but after that many productions asked to have the "War of the World" treatment and the work conditions in VFX started deteriorating with shorter delays and still asking for higher quality. So many brun outs were caused by the special treatment this movie received.
@@TheViolalove I don't think your answer is related at all to my post. Though I agree that the VFX are better than Cats. However, I have no idea of the details behind the Cats production. A little clue to what the problem may be: sometimes the same team that win the Oscars also get blamed for bad VFX on another movie. Maybe unrealistic deadlines, production not taking look decision on time, bad shooting.... Just to let you the condictions VFX artists work under: a supervidor once said back around 2007 "If I don't cause a VFX shop to close during a production, I did not do my job." How the people are disintegrated into dust is definitely better than showing gore and scarier, I think the wailing sound made by the alien machines adds an extra chill to that effect also. And the unnerving way the people act in fear of their lives trying to drag Ray and his kids from the car really shows human nature in its true form. As a fan of the original which I first saw back in the mid 60s which is the better film? The 2005 version is the most realistic of the two but both are equally entertaining. Great video Minty, keep em coming.
I thought the machines were buried and the Aliens got transported to them via the lightning, rather than awakened. Will need to watch again soon, enjoyed this film at the time.
I saw this at the drive in, which added to the creepy feel and made us feel like we were part of the movie. The whole time we were expecting the tripods to walk through the trees. At the end people clapped and then Batman Begins played afterward, which made this a great overall experience.

I don't believe the aliens from Close Encounters are entirely friendly. The formerly missing large sea vessel being found in the middle of a landlocked desert is extremely intimidating, to say the least.
I respectfully disagree. Sure, an alien's capabilities might be intimidating, but that doesn't necessarily translate over to intent. Superman is one of the most powerful heroes known, but there's not a single person I know that would be scared of his intentions. He humbly came forward, stopping pretty much at the point of dropping to his knees and said "How can I help?", when he could have easily conquered the world.
That seeing where the public try pull out Tom Cruise and his kids was very nerve-wracking and hearing the sound of the van stopping after each gunshot was creepy.
I saw this in theatres when I was 9 and the theatre had a warning on the poster that said " War of the Worlds is PG-13 and is not suitable for younger audiences. It contains disturbing images and scary scenes" or something like that but my dad ignored it and we went to go see it. As soon as the river with the dead bodies came on screen I was scared of this movie. But I loved it and even got it for Christmas that year
I’ve loved Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds since I was a kid in the 1970s. I never knew he toured Australia with the live version and only came across it on iTunes. Jason Donovan is outstanding as the Parson Nathaniel! I hope to see a movie based on Jeff Wayne’s aesthetic and true to the time and location before I die. I think Peter Jackson could do it justice.
#6 is incorrect. The ships were buried underground and the lightning bolts transferred the aliens into them. The news reporter shows a clip to Tom Cruise during the plane crash scene.
Here is what I love about WotW 2005. No matter how hard Ray tries to run in the other direction of the invaders, he somehow just ends up closer and closer. Real creep vibes from Tim Robbins.
Channing Tatum in this movie is not a “cameo” as he wasn’t famous at that time. He was just an actor early in his career playing an extra. He would have to already be famous for that little thing to be considered a cameo.
Went on an extended tour of Universal's back lot... You get to go through the prop warehouse, costumes, walk around some of sets & stuff. & of course the plane! It's still a mess lol This movie will always be a great example of its genre, very thrilling.
Pointing out the 12 minute issue is smart, it will make people mindful but I have to wonder what is causing it? Are you perhaps not increasing the tension between each item enough? Are 10 facts just too many and people get bored after 7? Perhaps you should try a format change and split the videos in 2, 6 things you didn't know... 6 more things you didn't know.
@Arcane_Cypher That is a good point. I do that too since usually those are not great facts. Perhaps the issue is Minty is too verbose for the TrickTok generation
My only constructive criticism would be Minty's mic levels. Other than that I enjoy watching the videos and learning some unknown facts about classic movies 😊🙏
Thanks for another very interesting and engaging video, Minty. I really had a problem with the Martian war machines being previously buried underground. Additionally, the electrical bolts were apparently meant to be the Martians themselves being transferred down to their vehicles. This raises so many questions that it undermines the intentional grittier, lower key approach of the rest of the movie.
This film came out June 23th,2005,what a memorial day for myself,I was actually in Iraq with the Texas Guard at Camp TQ doing missions with an infantry unit.We arrived in Iraq in late 2004,tho. I remember watching this movie on dvd,it was released on dvd in November and I remember most of the guys in the unit buying it from the local shoppette ( a military store on TQ that sells things like a Wallmart ) LOL. A very good movie.loved it. Big fan of both Cruise and Spielberg. GREAT job on the video as usual Minty. God bless.
Nice presentation, and Minty, I ALWAYS watch your videos all the way through, and always want more. :) Be well, and keep doing what you do. Yours, SammyC
I, for one, always watch your videos to the end. I loved Spielberg's version of War of the Worlds. The personal story about fatherhood did indeed add that personal, character-driven aspect of the film and it made a huge difference for the better. There were some VFX shots that were genuinely frightening because so many of them were shot/created from the 1st-person POV. It's hard for a film to really get in my gut like this one did, I've seen too many of them (and loved them all), plus having worked in the world of filmmaking, VFX and CGI for many years now, I know how the tricks are done and can spot them immediately.
I live 10 minutes away from the sight where they shot the first appearance of the aliens on Ferry Street, Newark, New Jersey. I used to go there every week to eat at good restaurants they had around the area, this particular day we get there and the whole block is closed, we asked around what’s happening, they told us Tom Cruise was shooting a movie there, we decided to stick around a bit since so many people were, after 20 minutes, we see Tom Cruise running around, after that we left and looked forward to go see the movie in theater. Loved it, and to this day every time I go to Newark and pass that church I remember that day. Another fun fact is that, my high school friend’s neighbor had a dental office right in at a location they needed to close for the movie, he was offered money to close his business during shooting, he declined and asked to have a silent part at any point in the movie, his request was granted and he is one of the extra with a two second clear shot side by side with Tom Cruise. Love the channel mate!
I read the book and still liked the movie. Decision to move the plot in the modern world instead of ending of 19 century didn't hurt, the only scene from the book I missed was a dreadnought attack on one of the tripods, wish they made a scene with an Arleigh Burke destroyer attempting to destroy a tripod in the movie. Decision to scrap the cylinders from Mars and make aliens come out from underground was perfect for a horror-type movie. Besides, after movies like Independance Day (which is still good and I rewatch it sometimes) seeing something as dark as War of the Worlds was really refreshing, new, scary in a fun way. The fact it was done in such a rush make it even more astonishing. WotW is one of my fav movies. And I also like Spielberg and Cruise, they're always try their best to deliver a cool movie. :) (Sorry for my bad English)
Yes, Minty, this movie is very much about family, most specifically about the important role of the father. The Gene Barry version was about individual nations, focusing on the U.S. This 1950s version also focused on religion and the importance of faith. It's interesting that these three subjects - fathers, faith, and country have been pretty much erased from modern entertainment in a mear 20 years. Sad....
There's one scene in this WOTW 2005 that I found chilling at the time and always sticks in my mind, its when they are looking down on the massive group of people over the hill, tripods in toe opening fire like on running insects, you hear the distant screams of the masses. Replace the tripod with something else and feel like that probably happened in real war, haunting!
I *Really* enjoy all your videos! 12 minutes!?! What’s wrong with these people? You always deliver an excellent synopsis of every movie. Thank you. ✔️👍

But I loved it and even got it for Christmas that year
I’ve never switched off a video from my man minty until the video was over. Love your videos man keep doing what you’re doing.
I still believe that The Live Version of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds is the best film.
@@coasterblocks3420 there's a dvd release from the first shows. I'm not selling you my copy, though...
@@1972LittleC I bought the live production on iTunes. Plus I have the original album on vinyl. The Jeff Wayne tripod design is simply outstanding.
@@coasterblocks3420 if you only got the audio, you're missing out.
Never turned a Minty video off early. We love ya bud, keep it going.
Well, someone jumped on the couch in front of everybody and proves their love to me. I’d be happy. Lol that was a good movie. I really enjoyed it.
I always finish your videos!! Who would dare shut off before the end? Top three are always the best. Please keep up the amazing work.
This film is awesome and I Went to universal studios Hollywood and I stood by the actual plane that Tom Cruise stood by the movie
Love your videos Mitty. Keep up the good work man. War of the Worlds will always be a classic forever.
Channing Tatum in this movie is not a “cameo” as he wasn’t famous at that time. He was just an actor early in his career playing an extra. He would have to already be famous for that little thing to be considered a cameo.
Oh God help us all, Mother Superior.
Made it to the end, Minty you pulled off another banger review, love you man!
Tom was spectacular in this.
Went on an extended tour of Universal's back lot... You get to go through the prop warehouse, costumes, walk around some of sets & stuff. & of course the plane! It's still a mess lol
This movie will always be a great example of its genre, very thrilling.
Spiderman 2 came out in 2004, WotW came out in 2005. They did not compete at the box office.
He didnt say it did. He said it was the second highest opening on "an" independence day weekend behind Spider Man 2. Not the same year.
12 min? I ALWAYS watch the whole video cause Minty has so much awesome packed into one episode, I don't want to miss a minute of it!
I wonder if the 12 min mark is an average?
God bless.
Love your videos, always watch until the very end
I always love to watch your videos from start to finish. I find them very informative and entertaining!
Minty, I watch every one of your videos from start to finish. And always give a Like. Thank you for all your hard work!
Thanks for video Minty 👍I always watch the whole video! I never leave at 12 minutes!! Love the SPAM in the background 👍
Just so you know I love your videos Mindy, and I always watch till the end
This is a great video, in my opinion your best yet. Thanks for making it !
The beginning of the movie was filmed in Bayonne NJ, where I'm from, my older brother was actually an extra skateboarding by Tom Cruise
like, uh... the King of Bayonne
Awesome as always and I always watch all your videos until the end no matter how long they are. I have to see you do the wave and say “See Ya!!”
Been watching your videos for almost 3yrs now you really have a talent dude
Thanks for this one Minty!!! Not being a huge Tom Cruise fan, I really loved this movie!! Rewatching many times!! Keep up your great work!!!! ❤❤❤
I did not know a lot of people quit watching your videos halfway through?? They're so good I've never not watched one all the way through😂😂
I read the book and still liked the movie. :)
(Sorry for my bad English)
Yes, Minty, this movie is very much about family, most specifically about the important role of the father.
The Gene Barry version was about individual nations, focusing on the U.S.
This 1950s version also focused on religion and the importance of faith.
It's interesting that these three subjects - fathers, faith, and country have been pretty much erased from modern entertainment in a mear 20 years.
Sad....
I agree
You know that "modern entertainment" is more than just Hollywood and Netflix?
The aliens weren't here underground, only their tech. They rode the lightning down to their tripods.
Exactly!
I just watched this about a month ago, and it's still a great movie. Also, I always watch your videos until the end.
I *Really* enjoy all your videos! 12 minutes!?! What’s wrong with these people? You always deliver an excellent synopsis of every movie. Thank you. ✔️👍
A movie about growth as a father. I never noticed that, but your right. Thanks for the reviews Minty.
Good Morning Minty, cool video as always, you take care and have a great weekend sir
Every. Episode. To. The. End. You do great work! Keep it up!
Always great videos! Thank you! 😍
Thanks mate. I remember not liking this movie despite apparently buying it on DVD so I think I will have to give it a rewatch.
It was nominated for six Saturn Awards, and won Best Performance by a Younger Actor (Dakota Fanning). It won a Golden Reel Award for Sound Effects & Foley, a World Soundtrack Award for Best Original Soundtrack, three VES Awards for its visual effects, and was nominated for three Empire Awards, two Satellite Awards, and an MTV Award.
I NEVER SWITCH OFF! I ALWAYS WATCH YOUR VIDEOS FROM BEGINING TO END!!❤❤❤❤
You're going all Vin Diesel! I was cracking up when you said this!
Hahahahahaha
I always watch the whole video because I really like your videos and have been watching your channel for a long time. I really liked the movie.
