Whole Wheat Bread, Whole Wheat Bread Loaf Using Instant Dry Yeast
Whole Wheat Bread, apart from being healthier than its refined flour counterpart, also has a rustic aroma and flavour, which are thoroughly enjoyable. Freshly-baked Whole Wheat Bread is a delight to bite into, for babies, toddlers, children and adults too! You can use olive oil instead of butter to get a more authentic aroma, but if that is not available you can always bake it with regular soft butter. Ensure that the water to which you add the yeast is luke warm. If it is too hot or cold, the yeast will not get activated, and your bread will not have the proper texture. Once baked and sliced, serve the bread the way your child likes it - toasted or sandwiched, with grated veggies, cheese, butter and/or homemade jam .You can transform the Whole Wheat Bread to make delicious sandwiches and toasts like Alfa Sprouts, Tomatoes and Basil Sandwich , Baked Bread Rolls, Baked Corn Open Toast , Cabbage and Carrot Double Decker Sandwich ,Cheesy Onion and Chilli Toast ,Mushroom and Tomato Snack and many more.
    Preparation Time: 5 minutes.
    Cooking Time: Nil.
    Makes 1 bread loaf.
    Baking Temperature: 200°C (400°F).
    Baking Time: 45 minutes.
2½ cups whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
    1 tbsp instant dry yeast
    2 tbsp sugar
    ¾ tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil or soft butter
Whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta) for sprinkling
    Butter for brushing
    1. Combine the yeast, sugar and ¼ cup of warm water in a bowl, cover it with a lid and keep aside for 10 minutes.
    2. Combine the whole wheat flour, salt and yeast-sugar mixture in a deep bowl, mix well and knead into a soft dough using enough warm water.
    3. Add the olive oil and knead very well till the dough is smooth.
    4. Shape the dough into a proper round using both your hands while tucking the edges at the bottom.
    5. Cover it with a damp muslin cloth and keep aside in a warm place for 45 minutes or till the dough is double in size.
    6. Sprinkle the whole wheat flour over a smooth, flat surface, place the dough over it and knead it very well using both your hands. If the dough is getting sticky while kneading, then sprinkle little whole wheat flour as required.
    7. Tap the dough with your fingers and spread it to make a 250mm. X 200 mm. (10” x 8”) diameter oval shape.
    8. Roll the dough to make a 200 mm. (8”) long cylindrical roll and pinch the edges well.
    9. Place it in a greased bread loaf tin. Cover it with a damp muslin cloth and again keep aside in a warm place for 30 minutes.
    10. Bake it in a pre-heated oven at 200°c (400°f) for 10 minutes.
    11. Lower the temperature to 180°c (360°f) and bake it for 30 minutes.
    12. Keep the bread loaf aside to cool slightly.
    13. Loosen the sides and de-mould the bread loaf, brush it with butter and keep aside to cool completely.
    14. Once the bread loaf has cooled completely, cut it into 13 mm. ss(½“) bread slices.
    15. Serve immediately or use as required.

I have tried this recipe the 4th time...it is great. Kids love it and in fact, while we had the atta bread from the market, the home-baked got consumed much faster... it's easy to bake too...especially for the folks like me who have just started baking. Great experience baking this. I am getting a little confident now and would love to experiment with some multi-grain bread with an easy recipe. Can you please share something easy. Thanks

First time came out well, but the temperature set and baking time I adjusted myself.
I have whirlpool magiccook microwave oven and the coil gets heat up so fast that it burns the top layer so instead of 10 min at 200 degree I place it for 5 min at 200 and rest 20-30 min at 180 degrees.

I like all your recipes, I have watched many recipes of yours and tried which have come out well. Looks like all over the net only you have the real recipe for a complete wheat bread thanks for sharing it. Looks like we can use a pressure cooker and bake a bread if not oven, I had visited couple of sites to see if that is possible and found it to be possible to work with a pressure cooker for baking a bread. When using a pressure cooker we should not use the whistle and the caste ring on the lid.

    • @TarlaDalalsKitchen
      @TarlaDalalsKitchen  7 ปีที่แล้ว

If you want to add any kind of seasonings.. add after the first proving of the dough.. add all the masalas.. knead it well.. shape it in a loaf and place it in the tin and keep to prove for 30 minutes again.. and then bake it..
