When ever people say horse racing is cruel i say even if it is,its once a month for 2 minutes they run and they love it and they have a wonderful life afterwards. HR is not cruel. The whip hits them but doesn't hurt them. I love seeing brown happy and running.

If he didn’t have a loose shoe he would have won!!!!!!! He was an awesome horse and also had a major hoof problem during the race!!!!!!

Out of ALL the American horses, there's one horse that sticks in my mind that I wish went on to race allot longer and that was the AWESOME Red Ransom, he only had 3 race starts and won his debut race by 5 lengths setting a new Saratoga Race Course record for five furlongs in his very first race start.
Red Ransom was a absolute SPEED MACHINE and could have been ANYTHING.
He went on and proved it at stud, Producing over 100 stakes winners, only the ELITE stallions in the world go on to produce 100+ stakes winners.
    Loved the mighty Red Ransom.

I saw him from the fence at the finish line at the Florida Derby. I bet $500 to win at the Derby as soon as Dutrow took the 20 slot. I was in Baltimore before the Preakness and took a few side bets from suckers who thought local horses would beat him. I got the inside tip about the hoof and hit the super at Belmont. That was the last time I made money gambling on horses. He never needed the whip. He knew where the finish line was. Smart horse. One of my favorites. I'm retired now also... Guess I will go say thanks.

Big Brown was trained by Rick Dutrow Jr the drugs man, has been suspended from training for 10 years. This horse will be a dud at stud

The only reason Big Brown recognised Rick Dutrow's voice was because Big Brown wanted another fix of Winstrol from Dutrow.
It amazes me how some states within America allow the number 1 anabolic steroid in Winstrol be used in horses.
If Winstrol was permitted globally within the Thoroughbred horse racing industry, can you imaging what ALL the decent horses would achieve on the race track and im only talking about the decent horses that fall in the top 5% to 10% of all Thoroughbreds bred per season.
Not to mention the selected few champions that appear each season, much less then 1% of these Champions are bred per season, only God knows what they would achieve on the race track if these Champions were on Winstrol like Big Brown was.
It's a absolute JOKE. It's NO surprise his stud fees are so low at $8,500 in 2015.
Its embarrassing to say the least.
Within America which drugs are legal varies from state to state, with Kentucky holding the reputation as the most lenient state.
What is even more embarrassing, is when will America completely follow the rest of the world regarding prohibited substances within the Thoroughbred horse racing industry.
(The information BELOW is from a article)
There are trainers pumping horses full of illegal drugs every day,” says a former Churchill Downs public relations director.(14) “With so much money on the line, people will do anything to make their horses run faster.” Which drugs are legal varies from state to state, with Kentucky holding the reputation as the most lenient state.(15) The New York Sun explained that because “thoroughbreds are bred for flashy speed and to look good in the sales ring … the animal itself has become more fragile” and that “to keep the horses going,” they’re all given Lasix (which controls bleeding in the lungs), phenylbutazone (an anti-inflammatory), and cortiscosteroids (for pain and inflammation).(16) Those drugs, although legal, can also mask pain or make a horse run faster. Labs cannot detect all the illegal drugs out there, of which there “could be thousands,” says the executive director of the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium.
Rick Dutrow, the trainer of 2008 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown, openly admits to giving his horses Winstrol, a steroid that is illegal for equine use in 10 states, although not in the three that host the Triple Crown. Before it was banned in Pennsylvania, nearly 1,000 horses were tested for steroids and more than 60 percent tested positive. Big Brown’s veterinarian concedes that “without steroids, they’d lose some horses that can’t keep up the pace and race every three weeks or every month.”(18) Dutrow was suspended for 10 years in 2011 by the New York racing board for repeated drug violations, although a stay was issued while he appealed the board’s decision, allowing him to continue to work with horses.

This horses true colors came out when he was taken off the 'roids. He has little talent.
