Secretariat the greatest, Seattle Slew, Affirmed all TC winners. Ruffian,Foolish Pleasure,Spectacular Bid,Alydar, Sham,Northern Dancer,Riva Ridge,Forego to name a few. What a decade for horse racing
There are no steroids in racing, that's just something people make up as an excuse for the fact horses aren't machines and they have in and out performances losing people money. They like to have something to blame, in reality Racing is heavily regulated - you cannot use drugs, as with any other sport.
this was a painful day for me glad kent eased him up because the horses in my opinion come before winning it is on my bucket list to see a Triple Crown with my own eyes I'll Have Another lets go!!!
Big Brown had a hoof injury and there was lot of criticism that he would be drugged up to race. To prove he was sound enough to run the trainers didn't give him any track approved drugs/steroids, so he was probably the only horse on the track not juiced up. Also, due to his injury he was laid up a few days and didnt get enough exercised to prepare for the race. Thirdly, it was discovered back at the barn, his special shoe for his bad hoof was dislodged during the race, which also resulted in poor performance. So this poor horse just had bad luck.
It’s absolutely tragic Big Brown didn’t have a chance to win that day, and even worse that so many people still don’t know that he absolutely had it in him. One of his hind shoes was dislodged and bent by Guadalcanal at the start. Pictures provided by multiple photographers show the shoe loose at the start of the race and still loose as he was being pulled up. At first, they didn’t realize it had been loose the whole time because it was pushed back into place as he was walked across the pavement - they only realized it afterwards as people started to go through their photographs and passed them along
Everybody has a theory, but when all is said and done, either you're riding a champion or you're not. It takes an exceptional horse to win the triple crown.
By the time Desormeaux eased up Big Brown, he was plummeting and there was little doubt that he was going to finish last. Usually a horse doesn't stop that badly unless there's something wrong with him...
Heck, even the jockey can spot something like that in real time while riding the horse. He would've said something like, "I could tell something was wrong with his left rear so I had to take care of the horse".
@@DanielSong39 it was absolutely mentioned after the race. His shoe was dislodged by Guadalcanal, and he ran the race with a loose and bent shoe. at first, they thought it must have reset itself during the race, but then more photos came to light which showed it was still loose as he was being pulled up, so they realized it must not have been reset until he was walking across the pavement.

It wasn’t a matter of not feeling like being there. Did you not see him fighting his jockey as he was being pulled up? He was pulled up because the jockey could tell there was something wrong and he was correct - he was running with a loose shoe that had been dislodged by Guadalcanal before the start
On the subject of using a "whip". First of all it is not a whip(like a bullwhip, etc.),it is a stick with a looped piece of leather at the tip, When used correctly,it DOES NOT cause pain and it is used to be a signal for more speed Second, there are rules in place that will discipline a jock if he uses the stick too much. If he raises his arm above his shoulder he can be suspended. The horse racing community(of which I belong) takes many steps to protect the horses. Many of you do not know this.
If the whip is used CORRECTLY,it causes NO DISCOMFORT to the horse. Actually the term whip is incorrect,it is not a whip, but rather a leather crop. It is used to signal a horse to give all it has. When trained correctly the horse will soon begin to wait for that signal. Many times the ears will be cocked back as if to say hey lets go! Some seem to forget that there are rules in place for jocks who use the "whip" excessively. If a jock is so hamhanded with a whip, well his license should be gone!
What a terrible ride. he got out bad. Then he ran up the heels of Da tara. then he takes em back....... And now it is time to shift him 7 wide the rest of the way????? What the hell where you thinking Keen?? Let him run!!!

It just goes to show you, Big Brown was a great race horse who would give everything he had to win. Having said that I believe whole-heartedly that he was pumped full of winstrol or something similar, because if I remember right didn't he have a leg or shoulder issue going into race week? Allll excuses!!! My dad the assistant trainer of affirmed....ya affirmed was sick and still won belmont stakes and beat alydar!!! My mother worked with him and both made that horse great!!! Excuses!
I would have felt sorrier for Big Brown's connections after this race if Dutrow hadn't been such a jerk before the race, saying that Big Brown would destroy the field. I'm almost glad he lost.
I think Big Brown knew Da Tara was the one to beat and Kent didn't listen to his horse coming out of the gate but at the same time, I have to applaud Kent for pulling him up instead of trying to run him out which, if it didn't break him in body, would have broken him in spirit. I'm sure the heat, the hoof crack and the messed up training all took the bloom off him - but temporarily. Big Brown could certainly come back and trounce the field in the Breeder's Cup. He is still a great horse.
Anyone that watches horse racing more than just a once a year glimpse at the triple crown knows when they see your run of the mill , see it every day dump job by the jockey riding a favorite. They are clearly following orders by the "wise guys" in charge. The greed involved is why the racing industry is going down further and further every year. The only thing keeping the industry afloat is the recent alliances with casino gambling in the last 20 years or so, but soon that won't be enough. This criminal stuff is not tolerated in Europe , Japan, or Australia. Why is it clearly turned a blind eye to here? Not bringing in any new racing fans with the current corruption running things. When this generation of fans die off, racing will slowly die off with it unfortunately......
I know WHAT'S WRONG?: Big Brown spent wasted energy bucking and kicking in his stall 2 hours before the race, and when the race started, he didn't have enough energy to finish.
Was hot that day…. Big brown did not acclimate to the hot weather he wasn’t sweating like the leader horse was prior to race… think the heat messed him up
How is he going to go "Secretariat" when Desormeaux said "he had no horse"?! He asked B.B. to give it his all and B.B. didn't respond. Something was wrong. For a horse that won the Derby and Preakness, made it look like it was nothing only to end up dead last in Belmont.........that's not right.
Kent Desormoux never learned how to ride the Belmont track, he had Big Brown racing wide, much like Stewart Elliot did w Smarty Jones in 2004, you can't run wide and win that race, it's a 1 1/2 mile race, going wide your asking your horse to run 2 miles. When Secretariat won the Belmont he took the inside path, with Sham, he never raced wide and set a record. American Pharaoh also took the inside path and so did Justify, so my point is fact. Racing wide cost Big Brown this race.
i was whatching this at a neighbors house and my other neighbor wasa ruling for the black one while i was screaming at him and for big brown of course he cheered and i nearly cried because big brown didnt win
Big Brown showed the signs of a horse who either bled during the race, which he didn't. The other sign is that he just simply didn't handle the track. He is way too talented to just have NO KICK,otherwise. If he had been just a little tired he would have at least been able to make a bid for the lead,it is that simple.
I understand Jockey Kent's decision not to push Big Brown. This race means a lot to Jockey Kent, but He also consider what a great Horse Big Brown is,Remember what happened to Barbaro.Other Jockey may have push Big Brown to his death just to win.
beefjerkey if he had he might have caused further injury, winstrol increases appetite, and hes been off it since april, "something" went wrong, and his jockey did the right thing, he said a million more dollars isnt worth BB's life, and pulled him up. BB can race again if he wants to to prove all his critics wrong, but a horse that runs like that loves to run, belmont day he couldnt. Just because we dont know why doesnt mean we need to theorize conspiracy.
No dout in my mind, someone paid Desormeaux good bit of cash to stiff Big Brown that day, he was loaded with gallop in the turn, his head was shaking trying to break free of Kent's hold, and when Kent went to the whip he never connected with the horse, he swung it back and forth to make it look like he was smacking him, because no one could see if the whip connected at the angle in the turn. Disgusting, he would have won to. It amazes me what people will do when there handed a large check.
Well, no offense to the horse (this Belmont Stakes made clear that he's got potential) but his career on the track was average. Beside this Belmont Stakes he won only 1 other race, and he never won anything after this race again. In fact he's switched owners already. I wonder if his 2 wins will really keep him from the slaughter house.
The horse fought with the jockey simple as that no matter which way you sum up this race. Bennie the Bull still strikes me to be a better horse than BB.
My passion in life is breeding, raising, and running horses. I've invested many years of time and money. My point is simple,if someone knows absolutely nothing about what they are talking about, they should first learn about it. You won't see me commenting on golf, for that very reason.
PEOPLE... You have to understand that the jockey controlls the horse. Big brown had what it took to win the race. the riders decision was to not push bigbrown. Kent placed a private bid on the horse that won. made him a millionaire. Trust me.
You dont see Euro and Japanses horses all running on Lasix, Bute, Adequan, Winstrol and an entire cocktail of drugs. Nowadays US racing is much a test of pharmaceuticals. Every trainer given their horse Lasix shots even when they breeze in the am. Adequan shots given every weekend and steroids monthly, its a big joke the industry has ignore for far too long. You didn't see Casino Drive running on Winstrol, Lasix or Bute in the Peter Pan. Just a well trained drug free horse. Big Brownstain.
That's not a 'fluke', you idiot. A fluke is when something really unlikely and lucky happens. He still had to run them all out of such a big race, it was an incredible performance, even if he isn't consistent and never repeated the form...
The start cost Big Brown the race. He broke slow, got stepped on and threw his head up twice before the first turn. I don't know what that guy was doing standing on the race track as the horses went by him, might've distracted Big Brown but who knows.
Jeff Jackson He wasn't settling well after he was stepped on. His hooves are brittle and the shoes had to be glued on. There are a few photos that show it not being on correctly.

One of the worst Triple Crown collapses I ever saw.
Was hot that day…. Big brown did not acclimate to the hot weather he wasn’t sweating like the leader horse was prior to race… think the heat messed him up
Wasnt the heat, trainer scumbag admitted off the roids
The heat had nothing to do with his shoe being dislodged at the start of the race
Being wide on the backstretch is still running STRAIGHT...Only time a Horse can go wide and lose ground is on the turns
🙄 a dislodged shoe cost big brown the race that’s all
First race without roids.
Ad hominem... typical
No, he was running with a dislodged shoe
"Kent got him out into the clear"? He was 10 wide the whole way lol...
plain and simple Big brown just didn't feel like running that day it was 2 damn hot. horses have a mind of their own and he said No!
i was whatching this at a neighbors house and my other neighbor wasa ruling for the black one while i was screaming at him and for big brown of course he cheered and i nearly cried because big brown didnt win
Big Brown was a good horse, But he faced weak horses throughout he 3 year old campaign
Big Brown showed the signs of a horse who either bled during the race, which he didn't. The other sign is that he just simply didn't handle the track. He is way too talented to just have NO KICK,otherwise. If he had been just a little tired he would have at least been able to make a bid for the lead,it is that simple.
nothing beats the melbourne cup the hardest race in the world to win!
I understand Jockey Kent's decision not to push Big Brown. This race means a lot to Jockey Kent, but He also consider what a great Horse Big Brown is,Remember what happened to Barbaro.Other Jockey may have push Big Brown to his death just to win.
i think Big Brown said screw it after being cut off so many times.
cut off? he was out in the middle of the track down the backside ...no excuse
they ganged up on big brown like i have never seen before an ive seen alot
in what way?...lol
most of the horse that won r chestnuts a few bays and 1 or 2 browns
Big deal. Eight Belles was better
Well they let DaTara walk through the fractions.
The peruvians jockeys are amazing!!!! ARRIBA PERU CARAJO!!!
beefjerkey if he had he might have caused further injury, winstrol increases appetite, and hes been off it since april, "something" went wrong, and his jockey did the right thing, he said a million more dollars isnt worth BB's life, and pulled him up. BB can race again if he wants to to prove all his critics wrong, but a horse that runs like that loves to run, belmont day he couldnt. Just because we dont know why doesnt mean we need to theorize conspiracy.
@Sami13p yes he was. Not for this race though.
@blondekaylee22 Now his trainers banned from racing in Kentucky
ghost if you don't think the NFL is rife with steroids right now you are nuts.
fix was in
+Chris Fields What fix?? LOL Big brown just did not have anything to give.
No doubt it was fixed. U can tell by how kent ran.
Uneducated nitwit
Just almost Like Zenyatta in the 2010 Breeders Cup classic, yes she got 2nd but she didnt seem like her self
Fix was in that day boy.. They fucked his shoe up before the race.
Sad no triple crown win
In sad the is no1 remember da tara
Well, no offense to the horse (this Belmont Stakes made clear that he's got potential) but his career on the track was average. Beside this Belmont Stakes he won only 1 other race, and he never won anything after this race again. In fact he's switched owners already.
I wonder if his 2 wins will really keep him from the slaughter house.
Jeff Clark he was an undefeated horse except for this race
I disagree the horse obviously wasn't 100%..It was almost 100dgs...He was in perfect striking distance.. He shoulda pulled away like in the Preakness
The horse fought with the jockey simple as that no matter which way you sum up this race. Bennie the Bull still strikes me to be a better horse than BB.
I love u datara
My passion in life is breeding, raising, and running horses. I've invested many years of time and money. My point is simple,if someone knows absolutely nothing about what they are talking about, they should first learn about it. You won't see me commenting on golf, for that very reason.
I was 21. This is the first time my heart was ever broken....
PEOPLE... You have to understand that the jockey controlls the horse. Big brown had what it took to win the race. the riders decision was to not push bigbrown. Kent placed a private bid on the horse that won. made him a millionaire. Trust me.
The race was fixed. Trainer Dutrow ripped Jockey Desormeaux to the media. Jockey took a dive for cash and his needy family.
Da Tara was a hell of a horse.
How? This win was a fluke. Never did anything other than this
Really Tooy Certainly ran a Hell of a race. Impressive performance, but yes, a one-hit-wonder, as it were.
That's not a 'fluke', you idiot. A fluke is when something really unlikely and lucky happens. He still had to run them all out of such a big race, it was an incredible performance, even if he isn't consistent and never repeated the form...
he never won another dam race dummy
Look at how Big Brown shakes his head and strides unevenly even after he's been eased. Obviously something was wrong with the horse.
Yes speedy im Aussie too...as if hake him wide at the first turn...whats with that? same in the Kentucky run 3 wide the whole way.
@bubblinbrownsugar616 in the stretch, as he was being galloped out. you have to watch fans videos you can hardly tell from this video, watch others on youtube.
