- To say 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo was a surprise winner of the Kentucky Derby would be an understatement since he generated a $102.60 win pay-off at odds of 50-1, the second largest ever in Derby history. He also gave veteran jockey Mike Smith his first Derby win in 12 tries, and made owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs first Kentucky Derby start a winning one. He now stands at Adena Farm in Paris, Ky.
He is Big baby because of being raised and trained by John Sherriffsand the Moss's. He treats all his horses like pets , he loves them all, he is patients and should have been trainer of the year. He is a TRUE horseman, he loves the animals, cares about them and understands them down to their hearts. Bravo Team Zen. It is good to see Giacomo being so very happy :)
I have a Giacomo baby, absolutely amazing horse, a late developer, he was too slow for the track. So sweet and so smart, and such an amazing mover. Currently being brought along slowly in training level dressage until he is old enough to start hunter/jumper. If you ever have a chance to get a Giacomo baby, do it, I love him more than life itself!
I have a Giacomo baby too! She is absolutely amazing and I will hopefully be training her in the jumper ring soon

I also have one of his fillies! Got her for $2,500. She is so worth $35,000. Her stamina is that of Secretariat, her speed is that of her daddy, and her heart is that of her mother.
He looks magnificent! I love the way his silvery tail catches the sun, and follows him like a beam of light.
What a lovely man and beautiful place to spend the rest of his life.....So wonderful to see him thriving! Beautiful champion........and yes, always a Kentucky Derby Winner as the old adage goes.

And this is Team Zenyatta! Imagine what she's going to be like. But Giacomo is a darling....and the affection shown here for him is lovely to see.

Great run by Giacomo in the Derby. Can't take anything away from him. I love Giacomo! I named my Sulcata Tortoise after him. :) I named my Basenji after Afleet Alex.

Why is she pronouncing the Italian name giacomo ( gee-ah-como ) jockamo? Americans never cease to amaze me with their pronunciation.

Curlin and Giacomo are the same height 16.2. Big Brown is 16.1. The difference is Curlin is a massive beast.
Giacomo was named after the son of Jerry Moss's friend and I believe that they pronounced it "jockamo". They are American so of course the name is americanized. I don't think that they chose to give the horse an Italian name on purpose but perhaps the parents of the child Giacomo was named after did pick the name because it was Italian. You would have to ask them.
Wasn't he at least partly owned by Sting and named for his son?
Afleet Alex is 16 hands even.
Zenyatta and Giacomo? That's a D Nicks Rating. I don't think so.

If they want the italian version it should be Jiar-cumoh.
Never was a Curlin fan, Not much Afleet Alex either. Gimme Hard Spun or Street Sense, or better yet, Union Rags.
@hollywud4ever357 they bred or are going breed her with Curlin first i think because he was a good winner and he is tipically smaller than most Thoroughbreds
