    Nice short movie. It was shot and directed by a very experienced Finnish cinematographer Esko Töyri who shot many Finnish feature films. I was a kid when Caravelles flew over my home and it was really fine to see these beuties flying. Every kid was a Caravelle fan those days.

      +pdmmdk. 1961 was still more like the 1950s, which were really classy. Then came the Beatles, Mary Quant, miniskirts, YSL's Mondriaan dresses, long boots made or not for walking, and what you see in "Austin Powers" (with obvious exaggeration, of course). Still better than the 1970s, though, with those horrendous bell-bottom pants and elbow patches...

    Awesome footage of one of the best looking airliners ever. Cheers for sharing. A nice touch - for me - were the images of Amsterdam the way I remember it from days of yore...

    The Caravelle is arguably the most beautiful jet airliner ever built! I miss these beauties, such a graceful and clean lookin bird! The de Havilland Comet is another pretty lady! Hell, I love them all!
    If I had a billion dollars.....!

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +mytmousemalibu, it is said that Sud-Aviation France paid De Havilland a considerable sum to use similar shapes to the Comet's in the Caravelle. Fortunately, the latter didn't have the bad habit of disintegrating in mid-air as well...

      Yeah, they learned the hard way about stress risers and fatigue. Unfortunately, also at the cost of innocent lives. Lessons in aviation are often hard learned.

    I like the Sud, seats spaced nicely apart plenty of leg, shoulder and head room and of course the meals even on short flights was plentiful, that was the good ole days. The Sud had similar seating to the upcoming DC-9, 5-across. When the Trident and 727 came up sometime later, with 6-across, it made a nice addition to revenues without much of an increase in costs leading to the lack of Sud sales

    great and interesting video again! nice to see the vintage aircraft like this caravelle and the culture at the time. I liked that dog the kid was carrying around from place to place.i didn't know you could carry animals on board with you but I would never store a pet in the baggage dept. of an airliner. thanks for sharing! rob

    Nice film. This film company made many 35 mm colour films. This film was probably made with 35 mm movie film, the picture has good quality. The Finnair livery is old here, it has still in tail word "Aero", "Aero" was Finnair's official name in the old days. (Finnish language is strange. The film company is Fennada Junior without "-in". The -in means here genetive in Finnish, "Fennada Juniorin" translates to "Fennada Junior's")

      That is true. Have you seen the Caravelle/UA video here on YT? They speak about how much money they made flying between BOS-ORD and JFK-ORD and DCA-ORD. Search for «When Britain ruled the skies.» Greetings from Norway

    Finnair (Aero) enters the jet age! There hasn't been such a big step for Finnair since, in fact many steps have been steps backwards service wise. Well slowly they evolved a sizeable intercontinental network with fully flat beds in business class and lounges at the airports.

    Recently Finnair became the first European airline to fly the Airbus A350, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB turbofans (the Caravelle was powered by Avon turbojets).

    Those Finns! I thought all they could do was smoke trout, drink hard, and drive rally cars. Turns out they can fly, too.
    Tourist class back then would be at least business class today.

    Whoa I cannot imagine a little boy and his dog on a flight with the pup on a seat rather than in a cage. SUD Aviation only lasted 13 years but they seem to have had more influence on European aviation than the 13 years would give them. Sud even though sate owned had such high cost products they could not sell many. When they merged into BAC they created the Concorde, which were never sold to BA and AF, but given, since the tax payers of France and the UK, BAC merged to form EADS

    That's a pretty awful Union Jack at 04:41, the cross is far too wide. Looks like a Morris Minor at 04:29, they were common as dirt in the UK at that time but less so on the continent. The amazing thing about the London film, showing Buckingham Palace, is that it is the same Queen on the throne today. Think about that...
