Just a little music trivia, Cy Coleman, the composer of all the groovy jazz for this film, also wrote the Broadway hit shows "Sweet Charity" and "City of Angels" and has won multiple Tony awards and an Oscar. He also wrote the classic Frank Sinatra tune, "The Best Is Yet To Come." :)

Especially luv the 99Os here, making the Boeings look a little chunky. Thanks for the post!

The most damning shame that fuel prices skyrocketed in 1973

This was before airlines began to outsource their maintenance to places like the Dominican Republic and China.

TFW there was actual joy with flying American Airlines and their crew weren't fighting mothers over a *baby stroller...*

Or anything else you’d see on TV shows like “Airline.” People were polite, civilized and dressed to the nines. You know, I understand an upset baby on board, but not an entitled woman who delays a plane while throwing a tantrum because she doesn’t want to sit next to said mom and baby.
My dad was with American at ORD, then SAN, and eventually at the TUL maintenance base where he retired after 40 years with American. It was his first and only job after he got out of the service in 1957. He not only taught us his strong work effort, but he taught my brother and I that flying was a privilege, not a right. We were to be seen and not heard on board, except when cabin crew came by with meals, and it was always “please” and “thank you” when we were asked what we wanted.
I didn’t plan to make this a tribute to my Dad, but he and thousands of others made American Airlines one of the exemplary airlines of “The Golden Years of Flying.” I greatly miss those days, and I always get misty-eyed when I encounter the aircraft of the late 50’s and 60’s on which he used to work. Thank you for posting this vid. I appreciate it so very much.

The main theme of this short became a great song that Blossom Dearie recorded called "You Turn Me On Baby." Worth seeking out!

If there was a crash, it was almost certainly a pilot behind the eight ball, not a mechanical failure, although, early 707 crashes did happen. Sabena did experience an unexplained crash in 1961 that took out the US ice skating team.

I'm an American Airlines mechanic and the conferences are still nearly identical except they are run out of Dallas instead of Tulsa since about 2011. It's really something to see this video I have worked at AA for 35 years and the first 27 at the base in Tulsa. I hoped to see someone I knew! I saw equipment i used even in 1985.

thanks for the upload! i know this was a learning era... but i have to LOL at this shit. this video would hardly harvest any sort of confidence in me as a consumer in the 60's. people think millennials are dumb, but i think people were even more ignorant back then.
