- We opened the route to New York in 1969. The flight to New York departed on May 15th in 1969 at 10.30. On the way to Big Apple there were two stop overs, first one in Copenhagen and the second one in Amsterdam. The maiden flight was done with four engine DC-8 which was named after a famous Finnish runner, Paavo Nurmi, the Flying Finn!
These are the very few reasons why i want to be a pilot for Finnair in future!🇫🇮
Have a lot of friends from Finland,have to say Helsinki-Vantaa was one of best airport experiences and plane spotting experiences
I want to be a flight attendant, maybe we will fly on the same plane in the future!
Wonderful video! I was lucky to work for Finnair at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, from 1972-1975 during those exciting days, when we had the Super Caravelle and the DC8-62 Combi. I got to know so many of the Finnair crews, some of the nicest people I have ever met. This video brings back a lot of memories! Kiitos!!!
Finnair DC-8s were also regular visitors at Tenerife in the 70s and the early 80s,the fondest memories for them
I flew to italy around a month ago with the Finnair Airbus A321

Got to fly the Finnair DC-8 first time 1975. HEL-YVR-HEL
Now-days Finnair only fly boring Airbuses, gone are the glory days of DC-9, DC-8, DC-10, MD-11 and MD80's and even the A340 is gone.. However it is still one of the safest airlines in the world!
Also they removed their 757 from the fleet in 2014

There were two A300s in the Finnair fleet briefly, they were normally operating for the charter arm Kar-Air or a Jersey tax haven company from Britain.
@@Itapirkanmaa2 I flew with Finnair's A300 from Malaga to Helsinki once. It was okay but not the freshest aircraft in their fleet. Now days I would love to fly on a A300, they make a really nice sound!

I got to fly on a Finnair DC-8 as late as the 80ies, much to my surprise. Maybe 1984 or 1985 or so, just a plain holiday charter to Greece or Cyprus - can't really remember either the exact destination or even the year any more.
At that time I tried to pretend to be a normal young girl so worked hard to suppress my interest in planes, so I don't know if it was this particular plane. But I do remember that it was a nice one (much nicer than the DC-9s, and much cosier than the DC-10), and that it was unexpected for some reason.
It must have been within the last year or two that it was still in service with Finnair.

@@wloffblizz No se vähä mitä oon muilla lentäny, ni tarjoilu on ollu avokätisempää kaikilla muilla. Missään muussa yhtiössä en oo törmänny siihen, että esim. oluesta veloitetaan Atlantin ylilennoilla.

Fin air has the most horrific customer service I have ever experienced. I have flown well over 2 million miles - have travelled all over the world and to try to speak with a human at this airline is next to impossible. They have a “chat” feature which is horse*hit. You pose a question and the bot answers something totally different, when they ask you if you want to chat with a human and you say yes - you are placed in queue - one time I was number 1 in the queue and I waited 20 mins- I’m thinking - worldwide, I am number one in line and they still haven’t answered? What, is it reindeer hunting season? Then I look and I am pushed back to number 2 in the queue. I was floored. I then got “disconnected” which has happened virtually every time I have tried. I called customer service and waited over an hour on hold before I had to hang up. I just tried the cutting edge chat feature again and finagled my way to "chat with a human" - I then saw I was 15th in line - well, I am in my mid 50’s so that won’t work because my parents died in their late 80s so mathematically there isn’t enough time. Garbage all around.
@finnair has worst customer service and discriminates clients based on they nationalities.
