- Is rear defroster blinking on your Dodge Grand Caravan and CLIIMATE CONTROLS do not work for first 10 - 30 seconds after you have started the van? Blower not working, no air condition or heat? ( 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | SE | CVP | AMP | SXT | LIMITED | CREW | VALUE PACKAGE | EXPRESS ).

This vans are equipped with "self adjusting" blend door actuator system. That means every time you start the van, climate controls go through self adjustment and check every blend door actuator and blend door. If one fails the test, you get the blinking rear defroster.
Problem is a bit deeper because if you replace the failed blend door actuators with replacement parts (such as Dorman), the new actuator will work, but still fail the self adjustment test.
YOU HAVE TO GO WITH DODGE OEM BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR (MOPAR).

Huh, I always wondered about this issue. I have replaced 3 of 4 blend door actuators on my 2012 with Dorman replacements to save $100+ each. I will live it. Thanks for the video and thanks Chrysler for designing a cheap ass part that requires me to go directly to you to be scammed.
Well Dorman will work like it is supposed to, but system will not recognize it and again you will deal with rear defroster blinking. I ended up going to the car salvage and pulling out 10 or so actuators. Paid $20 for all :)
@@QuiteAlright- I am a little late, but pulling a bunch from a junk yard is wise. I bought a few Dorman blend doors and the blinking light started. Now I do not want to pay $80 on such a cheap part, so a junk yard is a great idea.
Remove both negative and position cable from battery. Tie both negative cable connection and positive cable connection together for 45 mins. Then connect the positive then negative to the battery. The issue should be gone. This happens normally after you remove the negative cable before.
My negative cable was taken off yesterday. And now my vehicle did this today.
I need to take them both off then tie the together what does this do??!? Then put them back on?

Yup! I went with another brand of switch and my van has the same issue. Guess I’ll have to go with oem parts!!
You can try doing recalibration using the scanner and see if it will work. If not unfortunately you will have to go with oem
I learned how to stop the blinking without all of this .. start the car hold down your C button while holding the rear defrost button for 5 seconds and the light will stop blinking.

Yes it should be part of the climate control panel, next to the rear wiper button and temperature settings
How can you tell which "high end" scanner will diagnose the HVAC system and identify the faulty blower? Im looking at many and cant tell.
Every top end scanner should have the option. I'm using Snap-on. Friend has Autel and has almost all the same options. Launch should have it as well. Higher price, more options
What is the malfunction in the aftermarket actuators ? Most calibrations sweep stop to stop with HVAC looking at motor current to calibrate the travel limits. HOWEVER, the data shows door desired and actual positions. Is chrysler suing the position sensors for calibration of travel limits ? I cant find info on what the HVAC module is looking at when calibrationg. Forced cal doesnt work for the new / actuator either... ?? I haven't gotten a chrysler actuator... YET..... yay
I don't know, aftermarket actuators work as they are supposed to, but will not pass self calibration and rear defroster will be blinking. Only way to fix it is with OEM parts. To save money get used from car salvage, they will fail eventually whether you get new or used
This video is very helpful. I thought my climate control unit was bad, but now I see that I have a blend door issue. SO ANNOYING to have to use Dodge parts - What a RIP OFF.
Yes if your climate / blower doesn't work for first 30 seconds or so and rear defroster blinking that means the initial hvac test failed and one of the blend door actuators is not working properly.
Yeah god forbid you use the parts they specifically designed for the vehicle versus someone else who took that design and modified it so they could sell it. Suchhhhh a rip off🙄

I have had the same issue for about a year now. Did you ever find a solution? My mechanic said he wasn't sure and it would take ~$1200 just for him to troubleshoot it.
i can live with the 30 seconds lol
I learned how to stop the blinking without all of this .. start the car hold down your C button while holding the rear defrost button for 5 seconds and the light will stop blinking.
Does this affect the battery?

You have no idea how long this is been happening to my van it's been happening for like two months and I thought that a GPS tracker got installed on my van because I'm late on my payment due to someone f****** up my life trust me I wish I could pay the van off completely I have been living in my van for 2 years and for the past 2 months I've been a prisoner in it except for when I'm Landscaping I'm able to park in my boss's garage and this video I just came across because a guy put a old scope on my van and said that it looks like there's a problem with your vehicle not a GPS tracker on there but just a week or two before I went to a mechanic and he put a scope on and he said that my Havoc system is supposed to be showing 11 volts but it's only showing four volts something is draining seven volts from it that made me think there was a GPS tracker wire to my van which it could still be wire to one of the actuators I'm going to watch your next video to see where these actuators are located and by the way mine blinks rapidly for at least 30 seconds or more and then once it's done I'm able to turn on my AC and my blowers nothing will work on the Havoc until it's done blinking and when it starts to Blink it's not when I put the key in the ignition only or start the car it's when I open my doors turn on my interior lights touch my window buttons to put down my windows Anything Electric I touch almost anything not the steering wheel buttons but almost anything else the blinking rear defrost light will come on and while it's blinking I cannot turn on my blowers so thank you for making this video like seriously thank you so f****** much if I wasn't pouring homeless I would send you a hundred bucks just for giving me peace of mind and most likely this is just a problem with my van and they're not trying to repossess it even though the bank said it's not up for repossession but I don't trust Banks they're Liars considering also my front end got smashed in by a 17 year old girl a block and a half from her high school because she was looking at her cell phone and it shut me down on Uber and Lyft and that's why I'm f***** right now because I can't do any driving to make money so yeah I'm going to watch your next video and see where those actuators are and I'm going to take a look at them myself so thank you so so much and I'm looking at getting this new job and when I do I am going to TH-cam you some money sir because you deserve a little something for just giving me that peace of mind that they're not actually tracking me although I have been seen a lot of the vehicles following me around.

Sorry but i found out today from dodge customer care that the TSB R-62 expired in 2019. bummer because i’m attempting to calibrate my blend door actuators on our 2014 grand caravan

Are all the actuators the same? If I get a front actuator will it work in the back?
