    You deserve a metal for showing this technique to fix these heating problems!
    Thanks very much for your help. I live in Canada and our van did not have any heat one morning after driving for more than twenty minutes in the freezing cold. So I checked out your channel, followed your instructions and it completely fixed the problem in about one minute!!! You saved me lots of money for not having to take it to a garage.
    Thanks very much again!!

      I'm happy this video helped you out. On other vehicles usually when hvac actuator goes bad, it has to be replaced. But I believe on this Caravans problem is in the software, not the actuator itself. Dodge dealership can sometimes update it with their diagnostic tool and it won't make problems anymore

      I'm glad this video helped you out. Usually this trick works, but only until the actuator really fails. Problem is in self calibration of these actuators and then sometimes one gets stuck in a position and this procedure wakes it up.

    Tried this last year and it worked. This year same problem and no initial luck. Got ready to replace the actuator, tried it one more time and success! Don't give up too soon.

    I have done this a few times since owning our van. So far it has worked every time. It doesn't always work on the first try. Sometimes I have to repeat 2 or 3 times. So far so good. Never had to replace any parts or spend any money to fix the problem.

    • @QuiteAlright

    I had the same hot on the passenger's side and cold on the driver's side. I asked how to fix it in one of the Dodge van groups I am in on Facebook. So far, I have not gotten an answer. However I went searching on my own and found your video. It worked the first time! Thank you!!!!! I will be sharing this to the 4 Dodge van groups I am in. You saved me some money and did the fix in less than a minute. I have found 2 extremely useful videos for my 2012 Dodge Caravan. One was a wonderful shortcut on changing the spark plugs, which is a giant PITA. The other one is this one! Thanks again! Great video!

    Wow …. My 2010 Grand Caravan had only luke warm heat on passenger side … driver’s side was just’ok’ … sub par but acceptable …Heater core was then replaced at dealership 2 weeks ago … heat levels were worse than before as measured by me …before heater core replacement vs . afterword…at timed intervals by heat gun… Many hours looking at TH-cam videos regarding replacing the proper Blend door actuator… But I had not heard any clicking or snapping at all by actuators … with winter around the corner I discovered your procedure …instructional video .. and followed directions ….the result was incredible …I did five cycles of this process and the heat readings not only went up , they balanced left passenger side versus right passenger side for the first time in years… you are a genius …thank you thank you thank you… By the way the highest temperature readings I’ve achieved are about 15° higher than what I was getting before and after core replacement… The recalibration is the secret isn’t it?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the longer comment and for sharing your story. All of these dodge vans have huge problems with the actuators and heat system in general. Dealership will usually just waste your money with changing unnecessary parts, although they should be able to recalibrate the actuators with their scanner and that is the first they should try doing.

    I had this same problem with my 2013 Grand Caravan. I tried synching the knobs - didn't work. After watching the first few minutes of the South Main Auto Repair vid, I opened the glove box to reveal the right side Blend Door Activator, started the car and AC on high, then tapped on the Activator a few times with the butt end of a screwdriver while dialing the passenger side control from cold to hot. Magically it started working again. I'll replace it later, but it works for now.

    • @QuiteAlright

      No problem. You will have to run hvac diagnostics test using higher end obd2 scanner. It will test all of the actuators and re-sync them. It should be good after that if all pass the test. make sure to replace actuators with oem as aftermarket often fail syncronization

    This worked well for a right/left side problem I was having with my ac. Now the front is working as it should, but the rear ac is blowing hot. Does the same technique work front and back? Would I sync the rear control with one of the front controls?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never tried it, but you can give it a try. I think few people here reported it worked out for them. If it doesn't work, first make sure your refrigerant is topped up, then look at blend door actuator. Third thing which is very very common is your rear a/c lines being cut and blocked off. That is how most of the mechanics "fix" the rear a/c condenser leaking as it is quite expensive and common repair. Again I don't know if you got your van second hand or you the first owner

    • @mickstermouseter7059
      @mickstermouseter7059 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@QuiteAlright I bought a 2008 Caravan and the rear AC was not working. It had a condenser leak and I did the cheap fix. The front AC blows cold enough to cool the entire van, so I saved several hundred and plugged the rear A/C. It's my number 2 vehicle, so I don't mind it not blowing cold in the rear. The windows open so my dogs can ride with their head sticking out and the haven't complained about the lack of A/C

    This also worked for me. I went slowly with the knobs waiting a few seconds with each progression 6 times and calibrated successfully 1st try. I also noticed flashing light on one of the selection controls that went away. Maybe this was indicating a calibration fault beforehand? Thanks for sharing this great tip!

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad this worked out for you. Was rear defroster button flashing? If yes then at first start you won't have climate / fan working for maybe 20 - 30 sec. Means actuator calibration failed. If it keeps happening you will have to replace failed blend door actuator. Make sure to replace with OEM part as aftermarket often can't get calibrated

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there are 3 if you have only front climate.If you have rear climate as well then there are 5. Probably passenger blend door actuator failed. If it is not making noise then only way to be sure is to connect obd2 scan tool, access hvac module and start diagnostics test. It will go through all the actuators and give status and try to recalibrate

    I went through this process last year and recently the right front got stuck on full hot again. Watched a bunch of videos figuring the actuator was finally bad and took the two on the right out. (royal pain) Bench tested both and they were ok. (no clicking) The blend door actuator is closest to the dash and heads up, it's easy to screw up the linkage / cams. The hot / cold door is closer to the firewall and that top screw is not fun at all. Tested each motor by plugging them in and playing with the dash controls, but the hot / cold motor didn't do anything till I worked BOTH knobs at the same time. (several times) Put everything back together and we're in business. I think I'm gonna write myself a note and stick it in the glovebox for next time. That might save me 3-4 hours of work!

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. With time these actuators will go bad and this "trick" might not work anymore. I suggest always replacing with oem actuators, not aftermarket. Aftermarket will work, but sometimes cause the blower not to work for 10-15 sec when engine is just started as they fail to pass the startup test

    • @rupe53
      @rupe53 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@QuiteAlright ... worked in the field for 50 years although not in a Mopar dealer. Recently retired. Your points are spot on but looking for the root cause without proper scan tools and such will cause much hair pulling. OTOH, live testing is the next best thing. The motors work on the bench but not when connected to the dash control. This leads me to believe that the dash control is at fault, either by design flaw, or somehow becoming intermittent at 7 years old. This trick of doing a manual sync at the control not only seems to work, but it proves the actuators are not the root cause in this case. This begs the question as to why they go out of sync... or why they need to be in sync if they are designed to work independently, left and right sides. Obviously, after 50 years I do not have all the answers... at least not yet!

      No problem. If your actuator completely fails, you can also replace it by yourself. It will be behind the glove box in the upper left corner. A bit hard to access it, but doable

    Curious if this will also work when it's the driver side blowing hot air and the passenger side is cold air?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should work if actuator got stuck which happens very often on this minivans. If it completely failed then it will have to be replaced and recalibrated

    I have a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. It must be the 10th one? I have tried the knob synchro thing several times. I think my issue is deficient mechanical connection? Guess I have to wait for the actual disassembly of the dash to get to the actuator.....?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely you will have to replace the actuator. It is not too hard to replace it. Takes maybe 1 hour of labor to do it. It is behind the glove box. It swill be the upper one which is located a bit deeper inside so you will have to remove couple of things to get to it. Lower one is circulation actuator

    What if i don’t have knobs but buttons instead? Also will this work for the ac that’s on rear of the car?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I've never tried with the buttons, but it could / should work. Also never tried for the rear ac. Worse case scenario if it doesn't work you will have to replace one of the rear temperature blend door actuators. There is a video on my channel on how to do it

    I have a 2016 with buttons instead of the knobs. What would be the procedure?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm I've never tried it with the knobs. You can try doing the same thing just instead of turning the knobs press and hold buttons on both sides at the same time. If it doesn't work you would have to connect higher end obd2 scanner which can access hvac module and then run the calibration. If one of the blend door actuators fails calibration it will have to be replaced

    If it doesn't work just buy a new blender and install yourself. It's held on with 2 bolts and 1 wire harness
