There are 3 marks (open-mid-closed?) on the actuator that correspond to an arrow or line on the white shaft. You must install these with the blend door closed and the shaft aligned to the proper mark as I believe it's a duty cycle that is measured as these actuators do not have position sensors like the ones used in Fords with more than 2 pins

Thanks for your comment. I'll have to check that next time I am there doing yoga. Do you think that if the shaft is not initially aligned with the right mark it would not calibrate properly? Considering that there are only two wires and no potentiometer inside the actuator it must be measuring time of the door travel. So I wonder why those marks should matter...?

@@justdoityourself they may be there for the potentiometer equipped models: multiple internals in a common shell as even the connector can accommodate more pins , ie. Ford uses 5 pins in same clamshell. I'm going to replace one 2 pin tonight. Well see if clocking the shaft to the closed default position makes any difference. Perhaps the amp draw of the motor hitting a stop (full open or full closed) is the indicator the drive logic uses to determine if the blend door is in the right position for calibration and then it's a timed cycle. Maybe the gears are a different ratio?

@@68pishta68 Did you find out anything? I have a friend with the same issue. I am trying to figure out if I need to try to align it with that mark to full close or open.

@paulsilva5218 no, my 2012 needs a "recalibrate" from the ECU to fix these. It takes the resistance of the motor at full sweep to determine the sector position and mine is still cycling 5-6 times on every start up. Dealer said $90 labor to plug in scanner and hit 1 friggin 'HVAC blend door sync " button. Stealerships......:-(

@@paulsilva5218 I truly believe they need to be calibrated with a high level scan tool.

very nice, some of these are not fun to change. Will the intermediate scan tool provide the same data as the pro so I can accurately diagnose?

Unfortunately not, mine $300 launch tool doesn't even read hvac module. And for this test it actually needs to perform a test, so it has to be bidirectional.
