@@Carfilliot Love the games on PC. Played the hell out of them. Shadowrun has always been one of my favorite RPG systems. It's a shame they botched the console release so badly. I remember when the original game came out, and it was designed to be played on PC or tablets, which meant a lot of mechanics were just simplified to hell due to tablet limitations. They slowly improved the PC version to have better controls and options. Hopefully they might do the same on consoles (along with bug fixes).
As a Berliner, I was very happy about my hometown being depicted in a videogame in a more creative way than a mere WW2 ego shooter map! I enjoyed SR 1 & 2 on mobile years ago quite a bit, might try it out on PS5 now

I'll admit I'm not an RPG fan but I was revisiting one of my childhood favorite games - Shadowrun on Sega. I was surprised to learn that this game Trilogy was released on PS4 a few days ago. Thank you for putting this review together
Back in the snes days shadowrun was one of my favorite a games. I probably played through it 7 times. And it gave me the love for cyberpunk I carried for the rest of my life. I bought shadow run on pc when it launched but could never get along with the combat
Your reviews are always incredibly helpful. I played the first two on PC, but really want to do it all again (all three this time) on my PS5. $9.99 right now for the Trilogy! Even with bugs, I feel like three bucks a pop is going to be worth it. Thanks as always!!
The games are excellent on PC and I've had no bugs / issues with them on PC. Get it there (plus it's routinely on sale on steam and generally much cheaper than the console version).
Something I experienced with Dante and Eigar in dragonfall, is that the games audio files are glitched for characters considered “big” and there footsteps sounds like they are stomping through a hollow metal deck, and it played for ever individual footstep. It was really bizarre and sounded like the drum beat from the terminator theme song.
Never played any of those games before yesterday,I spent 7 hours with the first one...and of course I'm feeling it today at work, hahaha. Bloody amazing, simple, yet complex, not a fan of turn based rpgs, but the atmosphere in the trilogy, the storyline and all, wow!! I had been confused lately because I vividly remember playing a game called Shadowrun, but it was a shooter game and not an isometric field. I heard about the “Shadowrun trilogy,” on Game Pass and checked it out.. But then after searching I realized I was thinking of a stand-alone game called Shadowrun that I played on Xbox 360. Strange that there’s 2 semi well known games carrying the exact same name lol
Same setting. Shadowrun is a long running pen and paper RPG. If anything one of the reasons why people turned on the Xbox 360 shooter was because it was a paper thin layer over a standard team based multiplayer shooter.
I'm glad they released these to console, more people definitely need to play them. It's a damn shame the port is messed up, I hope they fix it soon but I can't say I'm surprised. I remember several years ago I picked up the PS4 port of the first Divinity Original Sin because I wanted to support Larian, and the port was awful. Ever since then I've avoided CRPGs on console.
Divinity OS and especially 2 were fantastic ports, really don’t know what you’re talking about. They run well, controls are intuitive and they weren’t bugfest, even at launch.

I always loved the Shadowrun universe. Felt like it's never gotten a faithful video game adaptation until this trilogy. The SNES and Genesis games were fun and both took totally different approaches, but neither really brought to life what I'd read in the books (Oh I never played the pen and paper rpg, I'm not that much of a dork, I tried to actually but let's just say that of you're willing to play Shadowrun pen and paper you're gonna be a very specific type of person). There was one other game that was basically an FPS, so that was baffling why they chose to do that. Again though I've had these for PC for years now and they're great, so if you've never played them and have a console instead of a PC don't miss these.
I mean, The IP has been around since 1989. There's so much depth, it's an immense world combining cyberpunk with fantasy. It's profoundly disappointing that there's been no attempt at a AAA RPG on any platform. I remember the SNES game. Shadowrun Hong Kong features a samurai ghoul as a recruitable team member, for that alone it's worth checking out.
I gotta tell ya, the changes they made to the menus and what not to make it console friendly reay work for me. I'm glad it's on game pass, I'm glad it exists on console, but DAAAAAAAMN! One of the challenges *in* the game is to see if you can avoid a crash. Lol.
Thank Youi! Another great and nuanced review and yet another money saver. I was really hoping this reworked and "optimized" version of the three games would run well enough, but after this I will save the money, hope for some serious improvements, and bug fixes. Will you review the upcoming Blade Runner Enhanced Edition?
Hm, I guess I just got lucky. I played the complete trilogy on Xbox Series X and had like 3 bugs and one crash in my complete playthrough. If you like (classic) RPGs and love the cyberpunk setting don't miss out on these 3 awesome games. You will enjoy every second!
I really got interested in the games but want to play them on PC. If anyone else is interested, go check then on GOG because whole trilogy is 10£ on discount.
It's a shame that the trilogy was released in such a poor state because I was really looking forward to it. I'll pick it up once the price drops. Hopefully, the wrinkles will get ironed out at that point. Thanks once again Karak!
Love this game series. I made the same charcater every time, Punchy. The fist only troll decked out in cyberware. Starts weak but by the end of the game you can buff him to KO 5 people before they battle begins
I had shadowrun returns on my phone and absolutely loved it Then for some reason they took it off the Google playstore and I've been inching to dive back into the universe
Where's the original Shadowrun game from 1993... from the SNES days... that was the best Shadowrun game... Bring that back with better graphics and what not.
I'm loving shadowrun returns but holy hell it's bugged out on me like 3 times already in a span of 10 minutes. The game stopped letting me do any actions or I couldn't get out of the pause menu. Just a bunch of little things that I'm constantly doing so who knows when it will bug out again. Hopefully they update it soon because I played for about an hour and half with no bugs and it was great.
I so wanna play this! When I was a kid I owned the snes version and played the crap out of it but never bought but rented a bunch the Sega Genesis copy! And if you like dungeons and dragons shadow run is pretty awesome playing table top also! Me and a few friends use to get together on the weekend and play DND, shadow run and MechWarrior good times!

I'm going back to playing these games on gog. can't believe i wasted $30.
Maybe there's a been a patch already but started playing Returns two days ago and haven't had a single glitch or problem with the game. If that's all stopping you, seems like a lot of its been fixed . Plus it's on gamepass
I liked Shadowrun Returns quite a lot. Granted I got it for free (heh) so I decided to buy DragonFall and I really liked all the characters in that game and where the story was going. The combat was getting overwhelming and just frustrating though. It seemed way more difficult this time around and more drawn out. I would miss shots more often it seemed and it just got so annoying. Also the hacking/exploring battles were so dull. Ugh. I think I would still would recommend them on the PC on sale (I heard Hong Kong had less emphasis on combat) but wow that's too bad they aren't released in a better state on console.
I've been playing through it since before the console edition came out and while I am annoyed at bugs, it seems to at least not be REAL BAD ones where you are straight fucked from ever completing the game. I am also introducing my sister to the setting this way and I think I've captured her interest thoroughly.
Such a shame they've released it in horrible technical state. I was planning on buying this for the PS5, but I'm definitely waiting a few months and hoping they'll release some major patches.
A bigger shame that SwitchUp gave it such a glowing review this morning that I instantly bought it for the pre-order discount. Now I don’t know if I can trust them anymore.
@@idiots30 funny you should say that, I bought it on release date before seeing the negative reviews but didn’t start playing it today. It’s fine for me so far too. Only bug I found so far is one time a text bubble wouldn’t go away for awhile
Got it with gamepass, played for less then 30 min and uninstalled. Hitting the A button hardly registers it's like you have to hit every button 3x times each for the game to register it
Welp, I've yet to try the port but this doesn't give me much hope. Now I feel like an idiot for preordering the series. I knew better and I still preordered it. I've been wanting to play Shadowrun for so long I couldn't help myself. At least I got it at a discount...
Played through 30 mins and had zero issues. I mean even performance was smooth af. Idk if they've patched it already but honestly don't let this review stop you from picking it up. Especially if you've got gamepass.
Dragonfall and HK are such great games and its a shame about the ports. If you have even middling PC they run fine on pretty much anything and there are a ton of mods on Steam as well.
@@Upsideround Reading mountains of uninteresting dialogue is not that enjoyable. Video games are a interactive audio visual medium not a book reading medium.
@@Bongtaker No game ever has each and ever plotline interesting or engaging. Sometimes the story drags on, in these cases an engaging voice acting can bring some interest back to the player.
Love Shadowrun, played a lot of 3rd edition back in high school, was pretty stoked when I heard they were finally getting a new RPG for the PC... but was pretty disappointed by it technically. Even on a beefy (for the time) PC that far exceeded the recommended specs, the UI was sluggish as hell, clicking on something or swapping out equipment had this strange, half-second delay that wouldn't have been so annoying if it wasn't _constantly there;_ the UI was overly simplistic that looked like it was a lazy port from a tablet game (given it was released simultaneously for Android, I'm pretty sure it was); and the equipment was absolutely terrible (iirc it was something along the lines of Pistol lv1, Pistol lv2, Pistol lv3?), which ran contrary to the complexity and variety of Shadowrun's weapons, augmentations, spells, etc. I agree they did a great job visually, but I don't remember liking anything else about Shadowrun Returns. Can't comment on Dragonfall or Hong Kong since the first game completely turned me off the developer.
These are games that I'd only recommend to people that really like CRPGs. I love em but they're just such a hassle to normal folk who might play the occasional CRPG and that sucks honestly because they are maybe just the best Cyberpunk IP out there, and it's being squandered on poor development.
Update me on this I plan to buy the Switch port once this is patched up and fixed. Shadowrun on Megadrive and SNES was my fave isometric rpg on consoles. I wish I was a Cyberpunk in the future once Elon Musk turns everyone into cyborg assassins. I would be the guy that starts the religious cult that electrocutes everyone's brains and steals their memories so I can become smart enough to fix all of Todd Howard's Elder Scrolls games on release without having to wait for bug fixes.

@@taconinja5675 Tis fine, I just react accordingly both as she don't do dating and because my family values privacy.
Never got to play em. Waited years for them to come to console.
Love your videos but wish you could break them up into chapters/time stamps for each category. Thanks for the content!
It is usually broken into chapters, I guess it's youtube screwing things up since the video has been uploaded recently
Waiting to install then. Hopefully they fix it quickly. I heard the Switch port is even worse with poor performance.
@@alienanxiety I just bought it for Switch and have had no issues.
@@idiots30 funny you should say that, I bought it on release date before seeing the negative reviews but didn’t start playing it today. It’s fine for me so far too. Only bug I found so far is one time a text bubble wouldn’t go away for awhile
So will these become steam deck compatible now since they’ve adapted the controls?
Now they just need to bring battletech to the consoles... and then make battletech 2.
We need a Larian or Owlcat Shadowrun rpg!
Aside from some janky collision issues and uber repetitive music at times - I’ve had fun.
Played through 30 mins and had zero issues. I mean even performance was smooth af. Idk if they've patched it already but honestly don't let this review stop you from picking it up. Especially if you've got gamepass.
They released a day one patch so I'm assuming it fixed a lot of potential problems new players would have.
FFS I don't get how so many publishers botch ports and launches.
Have they fixed the bugs yet?
It's on sale on the ps store.
I want to buy it but I don't want to waste money on a buggy game.
I can't wait to play this game regardless of my negative review
Dragonfall and HK are such great games and its a shame about the ports. If you have even middling PC they run fine on pretty much anything and there are a ton of mods on Steam as well.
Is this getting a physical release for Xbox One?
This is already a failure can’t equip new armor, I press start and sometimes it doesn’t let me back out. Games today are just a waste of time
Does this game finally have fully voiced dialogues ?
no. but you could grow up and learn to read.
@@Upsideround Reading mountains of uninteresting dialogue is not that enjoyable. Video games are a interactive audio visual medium not a book reading medium.
@@mihirchitnis905 if the dialogue is that uninteresting then maybe... you just don't like these games. Why play it at all then?
@@Bongtaker No game ever has each and ever plotline interesting or engaging. Sometimes the story drags on, in these cases an engaging voice acting can bring some interest back to the player.
@@mihirchitnis905 I agree, thankfully I don't feel that this game has "mountains of uninteresting dialogue" so i don't mind it's lack of voice acting.
Prompts to use the keyboard on Switch crash Dragonfall. Doesn't seem to be a fix. Crazy bug to release with.
Do they even release finished games anymore?
I’ll give these a whirl on gamepass once they fix performance
These are games that I'd only recommend to people that really like CRPGs. I love em but they're just such a hassle to normal folk who might play the occasional CRPG and that sucks honestly because they are maybe just the best Cyberpunk IP out there, and it's being squandered on poor development.
I miss the Friday the 13th game for the NES.
I don't get how they messed it up so bad, the games can run on a toaster.
I’m having a lot of lag issues with the switch versions…
To the point that I can’t even perform any actions like opening doors
Update me on this I plan to buy the Switch port once this is patched up and fixed. Shadowrun on Megadrive and SNES was my fave isometric rpg on consoles. I wish I was a Cyberpunk in the future once Elon Musk turns everyone into cyborg assassins. I would be the guy that starts the religious cult that electrocutes everyone's brains and steals their memories so I can become smart enough to fix all of Todd Howard's Elder Scrolls games on release without having to wait for bug fixes.
I just got it for Switch and I haven't had any issues.
I bought this from the Google Play Store and am still mad that they took it off the play store and I can't play this in my phone🤬
Cool review
Wish Dragonfall and Hong Kong stop freezing in mid battle
Wasn’t shadow run an online 5v5 online team deathmatch type game?? Am i thinking bout something else??
That game was kind of an outlier. Of the 7-8 Shadowrun games, that's the only one that wasn't an RPG and wasn't received well.
@@FluffyThieves aww :(( funny enough i used to play that one as a kid and love it. I guess it’ll just be a nice memory then 3:
