Double ratchet mechanism

  • Input: red crank.
    Output: violet slider moving one time in six revolutions of the input.
    Violet screw is fixed to the violet slider.
    Violet screw engages with the thread of the blue nut - ratchet wheel.
    Two green pawls are fixed to each other.
    Outer green pawl can engage with the yellow ratchet wheel.
    Inner green pawl can engage with the blue ratchet wheel.
    In one revolution of the input, yellow ratchet wheel turns 1/12 revolution and pauses.
    In every six revolutions of the input, the blue ratchet wheel turns together with the yellow ratchet wheel only one time, when the outer green pawl is in the deeper tooth grooves (in red).
    When the outer green pawl is not in the deeper tooth grooves, the inner green pawl does not contact the blue ratchet wheel.

    I must say, this mechanism is at least 75 years old, I have machines, in the place where I work that have used these types of ratchets on feeders since at least the 1940’s.

    Sir if used round shaft not lead screw shaft, are white arm was installed one wau cluth bearing?

      I don't understand your question.
      The purpose of this mechanism is: the blue ratchet rotates only once in six oscillations of the white lever.

      Beside positioning function they also keep the ratchet wheels immobile when the pawls do not push them.

    Mr thang, what this mechanism use for? For what tools? Can you explain the process more detail please? I'm curious, i don't get it at all

      As for how it works, please read the video description. I have no better explanation.
      It is just a mechanism that gives a special function. It can be used for any machine where suitable. Sorry, I have no example of its
      application.

      thang010146 i'm sorry if its rude, but if even you don't know the application, then what machine that suitable to use this mechanism?
      And why the blue gear only move two times/ 1yellow gear full rotation, why not 4?
      Does it reversible?
      Sorry for asking too much.. ☹️
