Thank you for telling me that the vampire knives are not worth it. I will now go kill sleletron with the chain knife and after that kill the brain of cthuluhu with my newly crafted in the graveyard quad barrel shotgun. After I enter hardmode, I will grind out the best weapon in the game, the Uzi. I will also now kill all three mechanical bosses so that I can obtain the unholy trident.
When 1.3 came out, this weapon was absolutely overpowered as it could still be obtained in pre-hardmode. It could absolutely wipe out EoW and BoC without breaking a sweat, and it's power on groups of enemies was unrivalled due to it's overpowered charge-attack. They later made it a hardmode exclusive drop with higher damage and mana cost, but it was still great at taking out bosses like the Destroyer and the pirate invasion. It wasn't really that op after this change, but in 1.4 they decided to absolutely murder this weapon by removing the charge-attack and making it only able to hit 3 enemies. 'Tis a shame.
An OP 2% chance mini biome weapon sounds awesome. And seriously not friggin unbalanced. They could have just made it even less likely to drop or even a mf buff miniboss.
so that's why this looked weird and odd to me in the video, I only used this in 1.3 and I distinctly remember it working differently than showcased here with a charge attack, good to know it got changed
Medusa as a whole got moved to Hardmode, mainly because her stoning attack was extremely dangerous in Prehardmode and you couldn’t do much about it in the early game
They should have made it have a chance to actually freeze enemies in place for a second. That’d make although not great on bosses, pretty alright when casually wondering around.
@@sockrteez How Did You Get The Rod Of Discord Before The Medusa Head I Always Get The Medusa Head And Not The Rod Of Discord BRUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
This is defidently a unique and interesting weapon. It’s close range, rarity, and damage makes it not very useful however. If the weapon were to inflict the stoned debuff to enemies and have more range simmilar to Medusas then it would be much better. Perhaps a 1.4.4 addition.
that would be a problem, though, as no bosses are immune to it, so you'd be stoning bosses left right and centre. And since stoned debuffs would trivialise many events, I suspect more of a DPS increase or a slow to be added to its arsenal, if it were to ever get a buff. I'd rather this item be combinable with the Hero Shield to stone a minimal amount of enemies per charge with a short cooldown. It suits the Greek Mythology as that was what happened to Medusa's head(get turned into a weapon), and it would help tankers provide some crowd control in events.
If the weapon had a chance to cause petrification on enemies, that'd be a really cool reason to grind for it. It'd also make dealing with crowds of enemies easier. Problem is though, by the time you enter hardmode mages have several fairly good weapons they can equip to take down the mech bosses.
Weapons great on paper, sorta a more offensive version of life drain, but needs a looot more range or be able two juggle enemies. I don’t think stoned works on enemies, but having an option that works as a crowd stun and kill would be great
This used to be a pre hardmode weapon in 1.3 and i LOVED it because i could just hold it and boom everything is gone But sadly its now a hardmode weapon which is unfortunate
I remember back when Medusa was a pre hardmode enemy, and getting a Medusa head was actually a huge deal cos it was one of the best pre hardmode mage items damage wise, but then when they made it only obtainable post WoF it completely lost all value
nah, it was good when it was a hardmode weapon, i remember it was one of those "you HAVE to get this when starting hardmode" weapons, along with the spider armor set, pre-1.4 this shredded junk if you used the spider set with medusa head, mech bosses didnt stand a chance, 1.4 though made it literally horrid
It would actually be useful if it turned enemies to stone for like 5 seconds. Just recolors the enemy dark grey and apply an effect similar to stunned in the old gen content with the heart arrows.
Unfortunate to hear it isn't that good anymore. I remember on an older update, I was able to get one in pre-Hardmode and its attacks were chargeable and hit way more enemies at once. It was very strong through early Hardmode for me, especially since it targetted every segment in range of worm enemies like the Destroyer or Wyvern at once.
Great video! I do want to say I love the weapon reviews. Something funny about the Medusa head is that it has the same drop rate as pizza from Medusa's. I was trying to make a farm for pizzas as they give the exquisitely stuffed buff, but I would be repeatedly getting Medusa heads. Kinda funny!
I had to laugh when Sockrteez said he got several pocket mirrors before he go a medusa head to drop. I thin Terraria somehow knows what item you want and does it's best to give you every other drop because when I was farming for a pocket mirror I got 3 or 4 medusa heads before I got 1 pocket mirror.
00:56 I like how rare the actual item itself is, even though everytime you kill one, a perfectly good head is just *rolling along, like, seriously! There it is! A MEDUSA, HEAD! What more could you want?* Ugh... 😒
I didn’t realize they reworked this thing. I remember it was fantastic in 1.3 fargos soul mod since the destroyer would coil around you and you could hit every segment at once. This new version seems pathetic
when i first got this weapon i got it super early in hard mode and it was my fav weapon for maybe two weeks until i found something better. the main thing i loved about it is its damage to worm type monsters as it can hit many segments and clearing groups of enemies
A rare drop from a rare creature in a rare biome... and it's mediocre at best. Makes you wonder why they even went through the effort of designing and programming the weapon.
it should be able to petrify enemies, but in a different way, where it makes them more brittle and reduces defense, perhaps the same as ichor, or maybe even more. maybe less enemies could be immune and it could be stacked with the golden shower, the range should also increase drastically. who knows maybe it could have a unique mechanic where it progressively does more damage depending on a certain mechanic, kinda like the keybrand.
I love this weapon, it deals with enemies that might be too hard to hit or are positioned in strange ways surrounding the player. It essentially creates an aura of below average speed death that reliably kills enemies. This exact description fits how the destroyers probes completely consume the player. I mean it when I say this is the best pre-mech probe repellent in the game and I love it so much. You deserve so much more Medusa head.
Imo, it should do aoe damage all around the character at slightly higher range constantly and also slow down enemies as if it’s turning them to stone. Otherwise, the weapon doesn’t even do anything in relation to what a medusa head does in fantasy and even ingame mobs
When making my plantera arena, there was a marble biome nearby, so i would get many medusas pretty easily. i got the pocket mirror, medusa head, and even a banner with the upped spawn rates in the jungle
This weapon holds a special place in me and my friends world. It was the first decent weapon we got, and we called it by the sound it makes when you use it. Fun times
This weapon needs a buff for its stage of the game or a rework that improves its range and it should give de buffs like the stoned or something close to that
Can you make a video about hardmode goblin army weapons that are dropped by Goblin Summoner? I have never seen somebody using them but i think that they are pretty good because how early you can get them.
you forgot about the medusa statue, activating a 1/4 timer to a medusa statue gets you the head in no time. i'm not really sure where you get it from but i stumbled upon one on my world and it's come in useful with dropping pocket mirrors and medusa heads to sell for money, along with a series of other statues i have hooked up that can drop some nice items.
Wait wait wait before you say this is bad there is one time where it shines, if you get lucky enough to get it before mech bosses it’s really really good for the destroyer and that’s how I destroyed it without storm bow. Not all bad.
Before the change when you could get it in pre HM it was a fun and quirky weapon. I liked the medusas in pre HM better because now I simply don't have a reason to visit the marble biome in HM at all.
It does have a very useful niche because it does not consume mana when not attacking. In afk farms with enemies that can go through walls like Floating Gross or Enchanted Axe/Sword you can get killed over and over again. Putting something on your mouse button(or remapping for easier access) will help you deal with these threats before they can overwhelm you. Bone helm, Volatile Slime and maybe a sentry and the only ones that will kill you are biome mimics
The Medusa Head CAN drop from medusa's generated from medusa statues. I posted that on reddit way way back, I guess the information didn't spread. What I personally did is the usual, attach a timer on a medusa statue. But I walled it off so I don't have to bother actually fighting the thing, equipped summoners gear and Sanguine Staff, stood next to the wall where medusas are spawning on the other side and let the bats kill them automatically. Left that thing running for only about 30 minutes to 1 hour I think and got the head.
I remember when this item was obtainable in prehardmode due to medusas spawning in prehardmode back in the day. It made prehardmode so easy so it made sense to make it only obtainable in hardmode
Please PLEASE bring this weapon back into pre hardmode and just slight nerf the damage, it was so good against WoF and making it a Hardmode exclusive makes it just so lackluster compared to the boss progression
In my world when i was making my cavern farm, there was a marble biome just bellow where i made it. and i was just in range of the marble biome so on top of all the normal cavern enemies, I also got the marble loot. meaning i had LOTS of medusa heads. nice bit of extra coin when selling the loot
Honestly, would've been cool to get an upgrade to this weapon, like a staff with the head at the top that does the old attack the head used to have, or maybe even a shield like the Hero Shield to add the attack as a directional Spore Sac equivalent. I think the Gorgon Shield(Hero Shield) or Frozen Head Shield(Frozen Shield + Medusa Head) would have a nice ring to them, but even a Snake Charm Shield(Ankh Shield + Medusa Head) would be kinda neat, especially because you need the Pocket Mirror from Medusa anyways to get it, so it would give a little more incentive to try and get the Medusa Head as well while you're at it.
I'd like to see leaf blower video. I honestly think people have forgotten about it when it performs very very well in many situations. When mixed with spectre armor it shreds golem like butter
Came back to terraria and staiverted a new playthrough 20 minutes into hardmode a hallowed mimic dropped the Daedalus Stormbow and just 10 minutes ago i was farming souls of fright and a medusa dropped medusa's head i think this is gonna be a good playthrough
If I remember correctly, they changed the Medusa Head a while back. I think the previous iteration used to need to charge before attacking, and then had no limit to how many enemies it hit, and did more damage to compensate the charge. It was something that was PHENOMENAL for dealing with both the worm bosses, but now nowhere near as much.
When playing with the vitality mod and grinding for the expensive ass summoner armour that had me killing roughly 150 hoplites, I had this drop quite a few times. It is a fun weapon, however i think it does lack power when considering it’s obtainability
So i just realized that next to my jungle arena isn’t a white sand biome but a marble biome and because it’s an extension of my arena medusas spawn as much as regular enemies even without water candles, i never knew they were that rare
I sincerely feel for him getting the pocket mirror over the head, I had the exact same problem with getting armor polish from floaty gross'. I'd farm the fore like 20 minutes and somehow end up with 3 meat grinders, the item with an even smaller drop rate of 1% ònó
The best way to get this would be if youre lucky enough to get a meduaa statue to wire it up to a trap in the wild if you havent gotten the mechanic yet and just spawn a lot. You wanna pick one up anyways for a pocket mirror. I have acrually gotten this every playthrough i spend time exploring underground so i thjnk you farming for jt was just unlucky lol
Medusa's head was pretty nice before rework. It was obtainanle on pre hardmode, had good range and pierced through enemies. Accidentally dropped the head, when 1,3 was released. It shredded through eater of worlds
If I were to farm this thing I’d blow up a giant hole around the biom so nothing else can spawn and do it in the drunk world so it’s the bigger shape of the granite biom
If they make the pocket mirror part of the anhk shield it, this medusa head may be something we may come across more often, due to the need the farm medusa anyway.just depends when you go to farm her. Pretty useless too late on into progression.
Before, during 1.3, it could be obtained pre-hm, and was an absolute beast, it targeted ALL enemies in a 50 tile radius and could be charged for a second for double damage or for three seconds for triple damage at the cost of up to 45 mana. EoW and BoC were melted by medusa head, and it also was very good for WoF and early HM even.
It needs a rework (again). It could be easily fixed by establishing it as having a specific number of beams that it puts out per attack, which would be divided among enemies if there are multiple, or have all of them hit a single enemy when there is only one. So...basically, it would fire 12 beams per attack as it does now, but all 12 of them could hit a single enemy if there was only one, 6 beams per enemy if there are 2, and 4 beams per enemy if there are 3. In addition, I would both up the drop rate from 2% to 5%, and increase the spawn rate of medusae in the HM marble biome. This would fix a lot of the problems with it and make it viable for progression as an early hardmode mage weapon.
honestly, I found the pocket mirror a lot harder to farm for the medusa head, all you really needed was a battle potion and to just sit in the marble biome, I suppose though the hardest part at that stage of the game would be killing medusa which wasn't that hard at the stage I was at
Pro tip for getting this weapon: If you want to get this weapon quicker, stand on marble blocks in your cavern farm. Marble enemies will spawn and you will not have to place hundreds of blocks. 😊
I honestly think it should apply Petrified (for a fairly significant time) to weaker Hardmode enemies at a longer range than it currently has. This would make it unique, and would really differentiate it from other more damage-focused weapons like the Life Drain. Obviously applying Petrified to critically strong enemies (and of course doing nothing to bosses except damage) might be broken, but applying a complete, one-and-done debuff to weaker enemies that effectively removes the enemy from the field for its duration sounds useful as either a support weapon or as a weapon for mining and stuff (where you don't want to waste time going to kill enemies, but you don't want to just leave them able to hurt you whilst you're busy. Additionally, being able to apply Petrified to weak enemies like Moss Hornets and Bats would be a fairly interesting case since, as the effect increases fall damage even for "immune" enemies (all enemies are immune to fall damage, of course), it could be a very powerful weapon against these specific threats. It would make building an arena in the Jungle a lot less painful, and the auto-tracking seems uniquely qualified to handle chaotic, smaller enemies like bats.
Well when it comes the drop chances, I was trying to get the Fast Clock from some Pixies for over 3 hours.. in expert mode. Over 300 pixies killed, a hallowed key, desert key, and several megaphones later I finally got one. Probability is a pain when luck isn’t on your side. You either get lucky and get the Medusa head right away or you never see it.
funny to hear you say marble biomes are rare, because in my experience like half the underground seemed to always be marble biomes for me. Add to that that medusas were pretty much the most dangerous enemies in very early hardmode and that weapon would get a fat no from me even if it was good in early hard mode.
Yeah, I think making it a defensive accessory that has a somewhat weak attack that also gives the chance of enemies enemies dropping their respective statues if they have one, just seems like a cool idea I seen in the comments. Maybe it could show as vanity similar to the cloud in a balloon or something.
That's funny. I avoided Medusas like hell until I had the full Ankh Shield (I got the Pocket Mirror by throwing a Blindfold in shimmer) because I kept getting stoned and dying. I think I got this weapon when I killed my first Medusa. Didn't use it that much, it landed in a chest after a couple of ingame days, but I wasn't aware it was a rare drop lol.
It has been reworked. The updated version imo was slightly nerfed. The older version was charged to increase damage, and had a quite large radius of lock on.
i got like two or three medusa heads before i got the pocket mirror for my ankh shield (yes, i forgot about the shimmer). i wasn’t even playing a run where i could use it
I got it by chance and it's great for the Destroyer. The reason it's not that great is because for the phase of the game where you can loot it and the damage is good, you don't need automatic AoE that much. And when you do, you have better alternatives. They should add an effect to it or increase the damage slightly.
this weapon was so crazy in 1.3 because you would be able to get it in prehardmode and it absolutely shredded the eater of worlds while making it VERY glitchy
I remember I actually got one of these randomly while just going trough the Marble Biome once, didn't even know it was a thing. Don't think I really used it for long tho
I think its a very good choice for how early you can get it, I killed around 12 Medusas and got it, I didn't even build farm, or use battle potions luck or water candle.
I have a way to get it the strategy is find a seed or search a seed that has a medusa spawner and get the mechanic to get the button to spawn the medusa from the medusa statue and if you don't wanna keep getting stun by the effect use summoner summon to kill the medusa I think it works or not
I got this weapon first time I fought a Medusa, found it super useful along with summons (I used the spider summons) for longer range as I don’t need to do much
this is the best, grinding for the medusa head, getting a fockin Nazar, or when I was trying to get a blindfold in classic I needed to beat 500 enemies, to get one, and an expert with another world, I needed to kill 500 enemies to get 12. I know about 2x chances for some drops, but this was... annoying. The best part was when I was searching for titanium ore and finally found accidentally deciever of fools, the nymph, when I was searching for her specifically I got one that quickly despawned
Me and 2 of my friends started a play through a few days ago and I’m playing mage and we got it without even realizing how rare it was while we were mining for hard mode ores lol
it seems it got nerfed as i had it once during 1.3 where is was a charged attack followed by the medusa explosion thing (it also dealt a lot more damage)
it was cooler back in 1.3 when it charged up fore a more powerful blast instead of always being pathetic tiny bursts, but even then you'd almost never get one. There was a time where it could be obtained in pre-hardmode, perhaps when Medusas were first introduced, but it has since been shunted into early hardmode with no buffs to its damage potential or drop rate at all.
I may have lost my mind a little farming for this thing lol…
i wish it would turn enemies to stone
I couldn’t imagine the pain, getting a rod of discord before the actual item??? Yikes that’s luck for you

Please PLEASE bring this weapon back into pre hardmode and just slight nerf the damage, it was so good against WoF and making it a Hardmode exclusive makes it just so lackluster compared to the boss progression
4:00 Technically, you only need a couple of blocks for an AFK farm, since marble enemies will spawn if the player is standing on marble.
Idk why but I have obtained this every bloody playthru I do withing the first 2 hours in hardmode
If I were to farm this thing I’d blow up a giant hole around the biom so nothing else can spawn and do it in the drunk world so it’s the bigger shape of the granite biom
on my first playthrough as a mage class, medusa head is one of my favourite weapon , but yeah, a shame its not that effective on later game
This would fix a lot of the problems with it and make it viable for progression as an early hardmode mage weapon.
if it at least slowed the enemies down as a sort of 'petrification" would be a little more unique/useful...
honestly, I found the pocket mirror a lot harder to farm for the medusa head, all you really needed was a battle potion and to just sit in the marble biome, I suppose though the hardest part at that stage of the game would be killing medusa which wasn't that hard at the stage I was at
Can you do a vid about the piranha gun, it seems good but doesn’t really feel worth it
Pro tip for getting this weapon: If you want to get this weapon quicker, stand on marble blocks in your cavern farm.
Can you maybe do a video to show how you make your mon farms ?
funny to hear you say marble biomes are rare, because in my experience like half the underground seemed to always be marble biomes for me.
The older version was charged to increase damage, and had a quite large radius of lock on.
i got like two or three medusa heads before i got the pocket mirror for my ankh shield (yes, i forgot about the shimmer). i wasn’t even playing a run where i could use it
I got to hardmode in my first fully solo playthrough recently and I got this on like my first Medusa! I'm kinda fond of it :3
I got it by chance and it's great for the Destroyer. The reason it's not that great is because for the phase of the game where you can loot it and the damage is good, you don't need automatic AoE that much. And when you do, you have better alternatives.
They should add an effect to it or increase the damage slightly.
Can you make a video on the Shadowflame Knife? Ever since my first play through using it, it’s become a must have for me.
this weapon was so crazy in 1.3 because you would be able to get it in prehardmode and it absolutely shredded the eater of worlds while making it VERY glitchy
I have a way to get it the strategy is find a seed or search a seed that has a medusa spawner and get the mechanic to get the button to spawn the medusa from the medusa statue and if you don't wanna keep getting stun by the effect use summoner summon to kill the medusa I think it works or not
After 325 hours of playing Terraria, I finally have the Rod of Discord
It's good, but yeah you're right. It's not worth the grind and setup.
Me and 2 of my friends started a play through a few days ago and I’m playing mage and we got it without even realizing how rare it was while we were mining for hard mode ores lol
awesome content as always! what editing software do you use?
it seems it got nerfed as i had it once during 1.3 where is was a charged attack followed by the medusa explosion thing (it also dealt a lot more damage)
the key to obtaining it is trying to build a plantera arena vaguely near a marble biome, that's when you'll start wishing medusas didn't exist
it was cooler back in 1.3 when it charged up fore a more powerful blast instead of always being pathetic tiny bursts, but even then you'd almost never get one.
There was a time where it could be obtained in pre-hardmode, perhaps when Medusas were first introduced, but it has since been shunted into early hardmode with no buffs to its damage potential or drop rate at all.
Him getting a rod of discord within one day
