Thanks for the review. I wasn’t too excited about this box set when it was announced, but after watching your video I changed my mind and ordered it. Now waiting for CD Collection 3 to be released and London to Vegas.
I’m glad it was helpful and excited you. I can’t wait for the next CD Collection too. But a bummed they pushed back the London to Vegas release due to Coronavirus.
I got this in March but other than playing the 2 regular albums I just got around to the 3 rare CDs this week. Fantastic! The only disc I already had was High N Dry, so I’m real happy about this purchase. I’m a big boot guy, but had nothing in the way of Leppard and this rectified that in one fell swoop
Aw man I can’t believe you waited so long!! The first thing I did was dive into the rare stuff!! Great to get this early stuff. This is another band who has way more stuff like this in the vault and I hope they keep cleaning it out with cool releases like this one and their CD Collection volumes that come with bonus discs of rare material as well.
Brendon Snyder let’s hope more bands do. Official versions tend to be cheaper than boots. Oh wait I did pick up a boot of their ‘83 Seattle concert in May so that helped tide me over. Real good show with nice packaging and soundboard sound like we mentioned. I could have done with less of the band dropping out so Joe can talk over a basic drum beat, it happens at least 3x for several minutes, otherwise great show. The 2nd disc is filled out with the gold MFSL of Pyromania - although I can’t hear a difference between it and my basic CD. That double disc was $45 plus shipping, the entire cost of Early Years was $62.
Thanks for great review! Top 3 Def Leppard's albums to me are always High N Dry, Pyromania, and Hysteria. Nice products, but I hope they use some inner sleeves to protect the discs from being scratched like japanese products, because this is a kind of special item for fan's collection.
I think I’d agree with you that those are the best 3 albums by Def Leppard. Yeah I found the packaging on the discs to be lacking and not sure why they did it different than the CD Collections Vol. 1 which had gatefold sleeves and inner sleeves to protect. But I guess their idea is that the book is the “packaging” and the cardboard sleeve is like the inner protective sleeve. If you’re careful there is no problem.
Haha...cool! Yeah I love that shirt. Any time I can get a shirt that is indirectly about a band like their vanity label, I love it. Thanks for subscribing!
Hi Brendon, Ashamed to say that I like this band but still did not take the plunge on any of their releases. Waiting for the price to come down. Nice suggestions. God bless and keep well, Tino
If you don’t own anything by the band yet I’d recommend starting with Pyromania and then the classic Hysteria. This box is the first two albums and is a much rawer sound than their more produced and popular albums. I personally love the box as there is lots of new stuff I’ve never heard and I’m enjoy how it’s packaged and sequenced.
So basically you’re buying a book with pictures, the cd packaging is embarrassing, it’s like the sets with 5 albums for $10. The first 2 albums if you have them in ANY other format then this, it’s better...so what are we left with? Jitterbugs and BBC + some Songs from Reading (they could have put the whole show at least...this are clicking around 110 minutes on 2 cd’s...so the only gem in this box is the Oxford show!!! I would have gladly have the Deluxe approach (Hysteria, Pyro,Adrenalize even Slang) with let’s say a 3 or 4 disc digipack, first 2 albums completed with bonuses/b-sides( could have easily squeezed in around 70 minute) add the reading at the end of oxford, do I nice booklet with all the pics and we are good to go...my2c
I hear you, I really do. It’s a cash grab and we all know it. However I like packagings, and collections that bring all of one type or an era together. This was the early period before the over production years. The material sounds different than Pyromania and beyond. So for me getting it all collected in one place is cool. But yes I agree that having to buy the first two albums again is a bit much and I was annoyed that the packaging was so simply when they had already done it really well for CD Collection Vol. 1 boxset. But then you’ve got diehards like me that will buy it anyway and I’m sure they’re counting on it. But it’s completely a cash grab. Just like the upcoming London to Vegas. Do I really need another live show?.....but I’ll still buy it 😂
I'm glad they released The Early Years. I like Def Leppard when they were a hard rock band. Their 1st three albums were great but I was disappointed when Hysteria came out. Hysteria was more of a pop rock album.
Yeah there are definitely two periods to the band and I’d draw the line in the same place. First 3 albums vs Hysteria and beyond. After Hysteria they have been chasing that album ever since. But my favorite is Pyromania.
Brendon Snyder As far as being their best album, it is a close call between Pyromania and High & Dry. I'm like you, I will go with Pyromania. Not only with the release of the album Hysteria being pop rock music wise, you could tell video wise to. The difference between the videos off of Pyromania and the ones off of Hysteria, are night and day. All someone has to do is watch the video for Women and then watch the video for Foolin'.
I agree and that’s why picking up this box set and the Seattle ‘83 show pretty do the trick for me as far as Def Lep rarities go, although I suppose some Pyromania outtakes would be nice. Have they released any of those?
Good video mate....would you say that it's worth the money or too hefty??...I have the 2 Boxsets on Vinyl but not much new stuff on this??(Just sessions and live)..
Personally for me it’s worth it because it focuses on this early period and all of the material has that rawer rock sound than the later over produced yet classic albums. Yes if you have the CD Collection Boxsets then a lot of this repeats. There are a few songs that only appear here like Glad I’m Alive, Medicine Man, and When The Rain Falls. Also the live and BBC recordings only appear here.

What an excellent box set I love Def Leppard but I love early Def Leppard so much more. It's raw and it rocks
It’s perfect! I hope they keep doing these kind of archival releases.

@@BrendonSnyder okay i will thank you so much you too :)

I wanted to get this set, but was disappointed to find it wasn't getting released on vinyl like the other core discography sets.
awesome cant wait to get this --1st 3 albums for me is leppard at there best
Yeah the early period is definitely a different animal than the later period from Hysteria on.
Great review, Sir!
The shirt sold me on subscribing.😎👍🏻🤘🏼

@@BrendonSnyder Thanks for the recommendation.
Can just hear the Def Leppard in the background :) does that keep the copyright bugs away?
Channel should get a boost from the new album release :)
Just grabbed a copy finally.
Awesome! Enjoy!!

Is the the live show a dvd?
The boxset is 5 CD’s, no DVD’s or Blu-ray’s.
hi --i only saw 3 cds i thought there was 5 in this box
It contains their first two studio albums and then a live show, rarities, and BBC recordings. Those are the 5 discs.
