DIYer here who is starting to step up into salable quality items and trying to see where to get a bang for the buck on tools I’ll need or do without. I saw at least four items/ideas in this one video. Fantastic insights.
I watch your videos almost every day during my lunch break (desk job). I always pick up new things and my appreciation for fine woodworking has skyrocketed. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I'm a really old guy. It amazing how good we were with those tools that don't work as well as all these new things. It's funny I started when the old guy then wouldn't use a skill saw for anything but plywood. They went handsaw all the way. Hand cutting all the angles 45s 22.5 any and all with handsaws. I did it with skill saws , actually learned both ways. I have to admit I would love to get into to these 3d printers and those computer controlled routers , but I'm old and get wore out. Not worth buying and gathering dust in my shop. Do not give up if all you have is a handsaw hammer and a square. You can build anything you can imagine. Just make the first cut and don't give up. You will find the tools you need when your ready for them. Plus starting with fewer tools you will learn how to use them. If your a carpenter and want to advance learn CADD. They have a lot of great classes at the community College.
jessem makes some awesome stuff. i just finished my dream router cabinet using all jessem components. i will add the small tool guage shortly i visited jessem's factory in new brunswick canada. almost all parts of their tools are made in house, awesome place and people
I have both the Pica pencils and they are more than great after 2 years of everyday use in site joinery. Their sheath can be attached on you to keep them protected but in the same time readily available. Great German product.
You did a great video. I like that you showed some products that I have not seen before. I like the Battery powered USB chargers as they are great for power outages to use the Laptop or other devices as I have the Ryobi version it also has a power outlet along with USB charging.
The sander “magic eraser” is available from harbor freight. They got rid of their most of their sharpening stones though. Kind of a number if you want to resharpen planer blades
I am in the early stages of fully outfitting my shop, so good suggestions on tools are very welcome. As an engineer, I have always preferred the metric system since it makes the math soooo much easier, which means that I make far more pieces cut to the right dimensions that fit in where they are supposed to go in my project and far fewer pieces that end up in scap bucket/shelf waiting for a second chance at life. So the Jessem small metric is now on my X-mas wish list. However, as you said a good set of aluminum setup blocks would still be very handy. The trouble is that I have not be able to find a set of blocks that are like the ones that you showed at 18 seconds in this video that are in metric. Does anybody know where I could get a set in metric?
I have the JessEm guides in both large and small metric sizes. When setting them both to the same measurement, they are about .5mm off from each other. Not a big deal for some things, but if i'm making a critical cut, I tend to rely on my setup blocks.
There's actually a procedure in the manual to reset the gauge if it got out of whack in the shipping process. It's pretty easy (four nuts). I checked all mine (I have 3) and they all match at the blade. I checked the metric against a ruler because I only have one of those.
@@MWAWoodworks Just to follow-up, after reading your comment, I found the manual on the JessEm website, ran out to the garage, and did the quick calibration procedure. My guides are now both spot on. Thanks again for the tip. I appreciate you!

Jessem sure makes quality stuff. But UJK's Parf Guide system is a must for anyone wanting to make their own MFT like tables. The accuracy is mind bogglingly good and with new addons, you can make any angle cuts with dead nuts accuracy.

Just last week I got the JessEm stainless doweling jig. I'm sold on their quality but is the stainless square a one piece design as Woodpeckers is.. asking only about the stainless core or the square, not the cheeks on the base.
It's not something they talk about in their description of the product and it's impossible to tell looking at it how much the steel extends into the base of the square 🤷 based solely on the positioning of the screws on the side it would appear the steel blade extends at least somewhat into an L shape
If you fish the clamp from the bottom of the MFT, up to the top, the handle will be out of the way. This gets the clamp out of the way. It's great for router jigs.

Think twice before supporting Bambu Labs. They take open source, community developed project and patented them for profit. There are many other great 3d printer companies on the market that deserve your support instead.

but also 100% true. I have 3 Bambu printers. But I appreciate you assuming positive intent instead of being cynical 😉.
You taught yourself "basic CAD design" did you? But couldn't be bothered to learn that the D in CAD is "Design." Good luck with your "new discoveries." I'm sure your 300K fans are dying to know what's next. Maybe a "SIM card"? "SCUBA gear"? Please make up somethig clever so you can be the next Trum apointee.
Ah you can always tell when my videos reach out beyond my normal audience. The "special" commentors arrive 😂😂
These are the most ridiculous and overpriced "tools" on the market. $50 to set a blade height!, give me a break.
thanks for watching!
Think twice before supporting Bambu Labs. They take open source, community developed project and patented them for profit.
There are many other great 3d printer companies on the market that deserve your support instead.
Bambu is the leader right now and I love their product. I waited for the chance to get to work specifically with them. I'm glad they finally realized our niche is the perfect market for them.
I agree with avoiding Bambu. The company sucks and profits off open source ideas.
@@MWAWoodworks Bambu Labs took other peoples work away from them and locked it behind patents. They aren't leading anything. They didn't come up with the ideas. They are unethical at best, but in reality they are more towards greedy crooks. No one steals people's work and locks it behind patents to help the community.
That is *not* what leaders do and I hope you realize that soon.
Thank you for your input, my friend

lol, yeah that's a huge problem, cutting my set up blocks.
lol, yes 3d print some dominos or just use a little sand paper on a real domino. Way to make things hard.
I guess we have different definitions of making things hard 😂
@@MWAWoodworks Yes well words actually have meaning. Crazy.
I will never buy a woodpeckers product I think they are the worst managed company ever. But I love JessEm and I hope they continue to make more of those squares at different sizes and put woodpeckers out of business.
What's up with the management of Woodpeckers?
@@BuckRogers2491 they are always out of stock of common items with really long waiting periods, talking months. But that's fine because it gave me the chance to find cheaper alternatives and now I have no reason to buy anything from woodpecker. it was just real frustrating every time I wanted to get something from them.
