    Yesterday I had one of the most surreal nights of my life. Went out at 8pm to find a good place to aim my headlights and came back at 3am...
    I was kicked out of places three times 😂
    After all I can say the Dorman replacement is freaking awesome, even with my older and weaker overtime led lights. Can't wait until I get one of those 20k lumens ones.

    Glad they included the wires to make the setup easier. Idk about going the factory oem route cause I hate nissans lighting factory bs. But I’ll be getting something after market. Thanks. I’m currently about to replace my headlight assembly so I’m taking off the bumper. Found this video and decided to check it out. Thanks man. The dim low beams you’re experiencing you can thank Nissan for. It’s the reason I’m changing mine out now before I get the fog lights. Makes all the difference in the world after you replace them. Seen a few friends with the exact same car replace their and it’s literally a night and day change. To any Altima drivers out there. Don’t even bother replacing your headlight bulbs to hid or led. The problem is the factory oem headlight assembly. Until you change those asap, no leds or hids in the world will help you. I replaced my leds thinking it would be better. And it was for about 8 months. Then reality kicked in. I’m finally changing it but trust me, change your factory headlights until nissan recalls their bs headlights. Also if you do replace your assemblies. Keep the original Nissan junk so when the recall does happen. You can throw the bs ones back on (time consuming I know but will be worth it) and Nissan can change them out when that time comes! And it is coming! There are too many of us altima drivers out there experiencing the same low beam problems for them not to have the recall. My opinion is they are waiting for a lot of people to just replace theirs through Nissan before they roll out the recall.

      Same issue here replaced the low beams with LED didn't help at all so I just went and bought an entire set of headlights becuase it's gotten to the point to where its dangerous to drive at night and constantly using high beams isn't safe for others they need to fix this.

      I just got my recall done last week. I set up the RO in August and could only drive with high beams until they replaced the assemblies.
      I hit a damn armadillo and busted my LH fog lens. Dealer wants $272 out the door to replace a single lens. This dude here just helped me save most of that bc I only need the light assembly, not the whole kit. Thanks!

      I stopped going up my favorite road, at 5am, because the Low-Beams make it near impossible to react to any wildlife (deer) jumping out into the road, and there's just enough oncoming traffic that running the high beams is pointless.
      Not to mention any other light source is going to pretty much mute the Altima's stock low beams, making it even more dangerous to drive at night.

    • @Sklanskers
      @Sklanskers 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had t his exact experience. I had the recall a year or so ago and they denied me said that the laminate wasn't coming off. BULLSHIT liars. It's like letting the police investigate themselves. Anyway, I called a local garage i respect last week. $810 to replace both headlight assemblies. I bought both off amazon for $150. Spent another $150 on jack stands, hydraulic jack, and a few other misc. tools i needed. Took me about 4 hours but I replaced everything. They look great. They shine great. They're beautifully bright. I saved almost 600 bucks doing it myself.

    I'm going to replace my Headlight Assembly soon, and then move onto fog lights. They really do make a huge difference.
    Honestly, the only reason i'm just now deciding to replace the HL Assembly is because i've got this rather nasty impact hole on the bottom left of my Front Bumper Cover. Easier to just replace the cover, than to do all the extra work of sanding, covering, and re-painting. And since i'll be replacing the cover, i may as well modify both light assemblies.

    Although the OEM kit is no longer available, there still is a way to do this if you have an S or SV model. The key is to locate the OEM combination switch with the fog light switch for a reasonable price. My way was to buy it used from a self service junk yard. Paid only $15 for one I pulled out of a 2013 Altima 3.5SL. This unfortunately was the only part I could obtain from this car as it had been picked over for several months before I got to it. The wire harness in the SL would not match what my S has anyway so I bought the two harnesses I needed from Nissan for $17 each on sale. These harnesses are the connection between the lights and the BCM. Then I bought aftermarket lights and trim covers. It is really nice to have the OEM set up for the cabin. When you turn on the fog lights, an indicator light comes on the instrument panel. That way you always know if the fog lights are on or not compared to aftermarket kits that have a button at the bottom left side of the instrument panel and no indicator light on the dash. I wouldn't have known about this had I not seen this video. Thanks dude.

    • @toolscarswithkris
      @toolscarswithkris  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the newer body style. But I would guess they are there. The plastic cover where the lights would be should pop out from the front. Just find something to pry it off with and take a look. And I didn't have to put any fuses in. But there might be a spot in there fuse box if they don't turn on. But a lot of times the factory just fills all the options spots in the fuse box. It just isn't getting any power at the moment.

  • @SupremeGodSon

    Great job dude! 👍🏽 Now I know what I have to do to install my fog lights. Mechanics be trying to overcharge for a job like this. Smh The low beam lighting on this particular body style is terrible. The projector style dims the low beam lights significantly. Can't see shit at night without using the fog lights and the high beams. You should definitely upgrade all your bulbs to LED. It'll help with night vision. Regular halogen💡are 🗑.

    • @toolscarswithkris
      @toolscarswithkris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed the projectors on this car are complete trash!!! I'm slowly putting LED lights all over there car. But I've read that the chrome on the inside of the projector gets burn residue all over it and that's the main reason they suck. So so I've been fighting with myself if I should get the bulbs first or if I need new assemblies. Because the bulbs wont help if the projectors themselves are toasted

    • @SupremeGodSon

      @@toolscarswithkris Good point! That's exactly why I purchased a brand new headlight housing assembly from Ebay. I haven't installed them yet, but I will very soon. I've been running HID's in the low beams and LED's in the high beams because the highs blow the fuse with HID's. Have had it this way pretty much since I first bought the car brand new back in 2013. The lighting was good in the beginning with the HID's, but started getting dim as years went by. With the sunlight beaming on them over time also ruins them.

      Yes I actually had the same thought when I first looked into doing the install. I don't remember exactly why i chose that it wouldn't work that way and they need to be installed from the back like as OEM. I think it was because the plastic trim bezel wouldn't fit in place properly. Because the bolt head would be in the way. But I want to say there was another reason also why I ultimately made the decision.

      Or you can try and glue a nut to the back of the holes on the light. Then see if you can maneuver it into the hole and come from the front with a bolt to pull it all together. • @toolscarswithkris

      That is the newer body style. You can try and pull the cover off where the light goes and see if you can find the plug for it.

    Awesome video thanks so much. I have a Canadian 2015 Altima, and there is an extra bulb in the fog lights that acts as the Daytime running light.
    Id like to remove the DRL function from the fog lights and instead use the turn signal leds.
    Can you offer guidance on how i would do that ? Would I need to splice one of the wires ?
    I'd install a new set of fog lights as well as the LED DRL from ebay.

    • @toolscarswithkris

    • @toolscarswithkris

      On my vehicle the blinkers stay on and act as marker lights also. So the bulb would shine white for that function then switch back to yellow for the turn signal.

      You might find the wires to plug one in behind plastic cover. Like I did in the video.
      If the car was in a front end collision they probably went a cheaper route and didn't replace the fog lights along with the bumper. Is what it sound like.
      If you don't see the plugs right away. Look further behind some stuff. Because they might have just tucked them away somewhere instead of routing then back in place.
      Good luck 🤞

      Yes it sure can. The biggest thing you have to look for when changing the bulb type is whether it can fit in the provided space. But with the fog lights there is all the space in the world behind them. So you shouldn't have any problems with obstructions in the given space.

    I'm hoping you heard about the class action law suit against Nissan which awarded owners reimbursement on replacement headlights or outright replacement. I just found about it this week. For anyone who want to do the job themselves, they have until October 25, 2021 to buy the headlight assembly and get reimbursed. Tools & Cars With Kris just looked it up for myself. Seems legit. Must be old stock or something. The indicator/turn signal switch alone goes for $155(the *lowest* price I’ve seen). Last week, I was looking for just the switch and the fog light covers. Wow...glad this video came up in my recommendations. Just ordered this kit literally 15 minutes ago. And nice installation video. Main caveat with these Nissans is the transmissions. Mine went out at under 50,000 miles. But other than that, these Nissans(Altimas especially) are a workhorse.

      Yes the cvt always has me nervous! I'm at right under 100k on the dash. I'm thinking about swapping the fluids out. But the Nissan brand cvt oil isn't cheap at all!! They claim it lasts a lifetime. But thats just not possible with any fluids.

    • @mansandem
      @mansandem 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tools & Cars With Kris CHANGE THE FLUID ASAP!!! The manual even says to change it every 60,000 which I think is a lie. Nissan *wants* you to change it every 60,000 miles(according to the manual) because they know it may fail before then. The saying that the original fluid is “good for life” is a fairytale made up by some Nissan “mechanics” so you’ll go too long with the old dirty fluid until the transmission breaks down. In my opinion, the fluid should be changed every 40-50,000 miles. You should change the fluid whenever you can since you say you’re just under a 100,000 miles. They can’t tell you no they won’t change the fluid, since you’ll be paying for it. Just change the fluid as soon as you can.
