    I'm a Blue Jackets follower and once a fan. The problem with the Blue Jackets is that they lack all three of the important elements required to compose a truly good team (a team a step beyond staggering into the final playoff spot). The Jackets do not have a winning tradition. That's #1. They do not have an exciting city. That's #2. And they are not an _historic_ team. That's #3. Even one of those elements could bring possibilities, but there is none of them in Columbus (nor Buffalo, nor Ottawa). It should be noted that since their inception, the Blue Jackets have _always_ been one of the youngest teams in the NHL. That is because of a year-after-year circular dynamic. When the good players reach their athletic prime, they leave through free agency, and the mediocre young players are often dealt for draft picks and/or prospects.

      Do the Panthers have a historic team, or a winning tradition? How exciting is Sunrise/Fort Lauderdale compared to the Columbus area? Tell me all about it since you seem to know a lot.

      @@timjansen7694 I'm still not sure what that has to do with the thing you said about the "three important elements required to compose a truly good team".

      @michaelcopper613 I'll explain. A successful NHL franchise has to have at least one of the elements I named. The more, the better. The Blue Jackets have none. Neither does Ottawa or Buffalo. It's not just about being more attractive to the best players. It is about being more attractive and thereby increasing the chances of acquiring the exact players you want.

    As a Columbus fan and full season ticket holder, I'm good with this signing. I figure they may add a third pair defenseman in the next day or so. I figure Jenner is moved to wing and we could see a top line of Gaudreau-Monahan-Chinakhov, with a second line of Jenner-Fantilli-Marchenko, a third line of Voronkov-Sillinger-Johnson, with a fourth line of Danforth-Kuraly-Olivier. I put this together with the notion Laine would be gone (will we get anything for him?) The blue line features Werenski, Severson. Provorov, Gudbranson, Mateychuk and Jiricek. Little by little, we're getting there. In hindsight, the problem with Jarmo was he knew how to collect the pieces, but he couldn't put the puzzle together.

      They should play on the same line and as one d-man pair

    The Panthers were a joke for two decades. Less fan support and worse ownership than Columbus. Hire the right guys, hit on a few free agents, and develop your prospects.

      If we have the exact same trajectory as the Panthers from here on we will win the cup in 2034 (their last top-5 pick was in 2014) 😹 that doesn't sound so bad if it was guaranteed but I hope I don't have to wait THAT long!

    I don't get this random beef Adam has with Kekaleinen, he did better than most GM's given the circumstances that presented themselves ( Panarin , Bob , Jones, PLD wanting out ). Plus he added some decent young talent.

    • @salwellingood1689
      @salwellingood1689 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah, Jarno was very good at recognizing talent (drafting, trading & free agency) due to being an ex-scout probably. But building a team isn't as easy as putting a bunch of good players together and hoping a team forms out of it.

    Monahan works on a 1st, 2nd or even 3rd line with as beens, he works on the center or wings, he’s responsable defensively, offensively, special teams, he can slow down plays, only thing lacking is speed.
    Very glad, he got himself one last multi year deal, those injuries cost him a lot of millions in his prime years.

  • @Erikk87
    @Erikk87 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

    This signing all relies on fantilli becoming a legit first line center. Monahan shouldn’t be anything more than a 2nd.

    Biggest thing this signing does is it pushes Jenner back to the wing where he can be a more effective forechecker. His foot speed was not fast enough for center and definitely not a 1c like last year.

    • @salwellingood1689
      @salwellingood1689 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Agree, last season seemed like the CBJ could only rush down the ice and get a single shot off, no forecheck, no puck retrievals after the initial shot, no sustained offensive zone pressure. Just one and done. With Jenner on the wing he will be able to forecheck without worrying about covering for dmen pinching or odd man rushes.

      He's an excellent drafter, great scout. He's a better-than-average trader, especially at the deadline. But there were other things he was not good at, and those things were glaring - he wasn't good at negotiating with RFAs in a way that didn't make them feel insulted, he wasn't good at pro scouting which means he wasn't good at free agency, he didn't put together a good development team. He also wasn't great at listening to his players and making them feel valued. And he constructed a team that was too young to be any good but had too many win-now contracts. It wasn't that there was no plan, it was that there were seven plans. He was great at a lot of things, but the ones he's not great at were the things that sank him.
