As a fan of modular kit where I can use different mixers and use whatever fits the day connected, I really need an update to my XDJ-700's. They are the oldest gear with touch enabled features in the whole lineup of players. It came out just after the first XDJ-1000. Even if the all-in-one's have taken over a lot, small modular players are outstanding in value. Not only are they extremely light weight and can be used in any combo of gear, but in case there's a mixer in place, or I want to extend the existing 2 player setup to a 4 player setup, I only need to bring the players which fits in a backpack and weighs in around 3 kg's. Obviously as seen on the Omnis Duo,, they can pack a lot of the new features in to that 7 inch screen. I bet they could fit an 8'' high res screen within the same frame as the old 7''. On a single player, that would be quite enogh even for my old eyes. I have the Mixstrem pro, and the 7'' is a tad bit too small for all the info needed, which means some stuff have very small fonts, and I have to use my hated reading glasses to comfortable see what's in front of me. Never need that with single screens.
I concur. I'd take something that looked like the jogwheel sections of this unit as standalone class compliant midi controllers. I don't really need a screen on them, I just want something to control Dejay on an iPad using a mixer that actually sounds good.
@@afursedon For that pupose you can use the old XDJ-700's if you want mechanical jog's, or any other HID compatible player. For me it's the internal software that needs to be updated. I never do and never will use a computer as a DJ, except for preparations. When the XDJ-700 came out 8 years ago the features were similar to the CDJ-2000 Nexus, which still has the foundation of digital Dj'ing, but a lot has happened in 8 years, not the least the speed of loading tracks with a lot of meta data, and to handle large libraries of music without lag. Also the screen tech has devoloped a lot, so an 8'' high res touch screen should be very possible to implement without to much trouble or higher cost. I don't need every feature of the CDJ-3000's, but if I can get a 700Mk2 similar to the XDJ-1000Mk2 vs CDJ-2000NXS2, but with less buttons, I would be very happy. Price for the pair could be close to a XDJ-RX3, and I would order a pair the minute they were announced. I have plenty of 2 & 4 channel mixers to use for different situations..
Great review as always. I’ve got one a few weeks back it’s not cheap but I went for this one because I’m using a lot of Pioneer gear already. It’s been a lot fun so far and I’ve taken it out to a few parks in London. I’d love to see streaming on this device to.
I’ll be brutally honest. The indigo blue is a nice touch just don’t understand why the platters are just so plain looking. Love the idea but hate the design.
Because real critism would most likely keep them from getting review units sent to them. I was slightly disappointed in CT and Crossfader because if it were any other company, they'd get dragged to through the mud.
@@atypical_blk_guyit was sarcasm. He wasn’t actually asking. When I watch a review I don’t listen to the reviewer’s opinion, I watch and listen to how the gear works. Who cares what some reviewer thinks. It’s subjective anyway! Make up your own mind. Much better.
Honestly i _really_ want some spinning platters gear for Rekordbox, either some kind of Rev7 or Rane 13's, until something like that happens honestly i am sitting on my DDJ1000
This little unit is absolutely beautiful. So neat. Just feels too much like a flx4 - so much loveliness in its Alphatheta ways, but could just do with some tactile workflow …and of course some Beatport option 👍
I kind of slagged it off at facevalue elsewhere, but actually upon hearing it in use it actually looks and sounds pretty fun to play with, the effects really crisp, maybe it doesnt really need to stream. I kind of like that idea, and the bluetooth just works... Yet that should become standard all over anyway. I'm really curious if Denon are planning to release upgrades of their groundbreaking equipment soon tho...
Maybe I'll cop one of these, but I'll revisit it around summertime. I have a DDJ-REV7, which I love, but only found out that this device is standalone and so digging the form factor overall. I'll wait to see about how things flesh out with regards to additional features such as Serato support (not a fan of the Lite version, considering the controller's price). Will be interesting to see if the Prime GO steps up this year, but I"m otherwise enamored by having a standalone device that I can quickly cart off and use when I don't need the heft of the REV7. As always, great review Mojave.
Just bought this unit ocasionly for half price So what can I say, it don't cost 1500 defenitly. It doesn't metter what Alpha Tetha think about their product, it's metter how much value it provides for user. Without pads modes, without sampler, high latency jogs (with Serato works much better), its not a big deal. And its havy! Design - most beautiful peace in my expirience, build quality is top, metal plate surface, also knobs and buttons. I will use it for ceremony, as I'm mobile DJ, but noting more.
I said this elsewhere and I believe it's worth mentioning here. It's too expensive given the international market conditions. Meaning, shipping cost have stabilized (ocean transportation, import fee's (duties and taxes, etc.), manufacturing (overseas) cost are actually down, not to mention labor cost overseas is still criminal compared elsewhere. If AlphaTheta is charging a premium price for this equipment, it's because it's their "flagship Name Brand" and nothing else. It's going to be interesting to see what additional products they come out with and hopefully they will be fully integrated with all the items MoJaxx mentioned. I honestly believe they rushed to get this out with the hope that someone like MoJaxx, Cleveland Terry and Nick Spinelli would hype this up. I believe they believe it's a great product and I also believe they know it's missing, as MoJaxx said, features now that may have to wait for a firmware update.
This controller cannot be compared with the Denon Prime Go for at least one reason: Denon has a link port and can be used together with various other devices. In addition, it has a high-quality professional-level audio path. It’s not clear how things are going with this in Alpha Theta. But it is known that in recent years Pioneer preferred to spend more on marketing, saving on high-quality hardware. I wonder if there is at least a function to change the key of a track during its playback?
Nonsense. Of course it can be compared. Only some folk want to link things. Regardless it’s a total legitimate comparison. I could say the Go can’t be compared because of its ridiculously small jogs. There wouldn’t be much point comparing things that were the same would there.
I see a lot of negative comments here. I for one, am excited about this for one feature... MIC EQ! If the Prime Go had it, I'd be using it for ceremonies and when I bring that up in FB groups, users say "use a separate mixer". The whole point of a standalone, all-in-one is that you don't need other gear. With Mic EQ, this will be my ceremony unit. I could care less about streaming.
@@robertschnobert9090It opens endless possibilities for creativity and jamming with other devices (think the highly popular portable scratching for instance) but without the lag bullshit.
The XZ and the XDJ-1000s both need a refresh... id even go as far to include the 750mk2 mixer... they need to at least be brought up closer to what the Nexus/NXS line up gave us.
I think bluetooth out and the physical output available at the same time questions me a lot because of delay issues, if those blend together, the delay between two will makes a lot of messy sounds... (better to have hardware output a delayed signal out from option)
Nice to see innovations coming in from Alpha Theta. The Bluetooth input, usb-c charger and looks are welcome! But still very much behind on the competition on aspects as dedicated stems control, live streaming and even no effects pads :-(. So I sorry but overpriced and late to the party.
How long before someone makes a Pioneer DJ skin for it 😂. Technically it seems pretty good but looks wise and the advertising they've put out it doesnt seem its for me...the price is a lot for its competitors units. Good honest review Mojaxx, Ive been looking for a new device for the year or so and your videos really help. I was hanging on for a new Pioneer device but sadly this is not it.
looking at the big picture , using the Alta Theta brand name, it quite possibly exists in part as a way to be able to finalise the acquisition of Serato
Adding streaming services on Pioneer/AT gear is not as easy as it sounds, they’ve never done it on any unit, even the top gear opus quad.. (only CDJ 3000 has Beatport streaming I think). It requires to build track analysis features on the device, meta data management (cue points, loops, rating, tags..) for tracks which aren’t stored locally, and probably many other features that simply don’t exist on pioneer gear today. I think that’s why it’s taking so long.. but of course the Engine DJ software already has all of that so they probably should get going asap…
What a joke this thing. Seriously overpriced. For the 500€ cheaper you can get a Denon Go or SC Live 4 with internal speakers 4 decks normal effects etc. Just add it to a powerbank and you are good to go.
@l337z0r it fits in a bag, not a backpack though. And it has build in speakers. Also the Omnis Duo only works well over Bluetooth with the special Bluetooth adapter, otherwise you have too much lag. So you could put that adapter to the Denon players as well and it would still be cheaper.
Firstly this unit looks like it is made by Fisher Price, I am not a fan of the look, the colour looks shocking, what are they playing at. I don't think it is a competitor to the Denon Prime Go as InMusic cannot make a controller that lasts, I have been through 3 Rane One's, the external build quality is great don't get me wrong but the upfaders are crap and appear to be from the Numark Parts Bin. Also what is it with removing all the external controls and putting them into a Touchscreen, do you realise how much of a pain in the arse that is, I hate the Mics are on a touch screen for the EQ, also the effects etc. Sorry this is not for me, they urgently need to do a update on the XZ and also address the latency issue with Serato (no my laptop is not crap and it works perfectly with other controllers, the XZ there is a slight latency which drives me crazy)
While I too am a fan of innovation and thinking out of the box, I feel that this device is still in the development stage similar to when Pioneer DJ/Rekordbox’s initial STEMS offerings. While keeping it simple, it still lacks the versatility that the Denon Prime GO offers out of the box. The funky aesthetics like this and the Opus Quad, I can get past if it offers the tools and input options that I require but, “it has been measured, it has been weighed, and it has been found wanting!”
It looks like an entry level device with all the technical and fun features under the hood which would be an absolute headache if you're in your flow. Good idea, but not well executed imo.
I really like the concept of this and the Prime Go. It is a small all-in-one that you can bring anywhere or just simply have a small, fully functional setup to put in the bedroom. Sure this thhing price is high af, but the only reason I would consider it over the Go is because rekordbox
Agreed. Not sure why everyone is knocking the price so much as when was pioneer ever cheap? I’d much rather have this over a Go. Always fancied one of them but can’t ever bring myself to buy Denon gear again.
The Auto-Loop button/knob has been standard issue on Denon gear since the SC5000. Not sure why Pioneer never got on this one, it's super handy and much quicker than setting in/out loops. I'd guess it's here, cause they were trying to clone the Prime Go.
If you have a loop on a hot cue (created on another mixer or Rekordbox) does it still show on this controller but just act as a standard hot cue? Seeing as you it has the time (when connected to the internet), when you record a mix to a USB, does it have the date and time on the file? You said about having a Bluetooth speaker in the next room; would that be any good, given how weak Bluetooth can be? Can you slide the beat grid, like you can on CDJ and XDJ devices?
In today's economy, I don't see any reason to pay USD 1500 for any DJ gear. I wasn't impressed by this and don't see it selling. This product is not for me.
This is a support controller for pro djs. Beginner/amateur djs cannot afford 1500 for something to learn from or to play 'at a friend's pool party'. Smh. I agree it's new tech, and some of the wireless features ARE useful, but at it's CORE, it doesn't do much more than say a ddj400 🤷♂️
It's a great controller and vastly superior in build quality to the dated Prime Go. Though Prime Go has some incredible features, the user experience is lackluster due to the wack jog wheels. Pioneer seems to "get" the DJ regarding the user experience.
@@robertschnobert9090 This feature is not hardware related. This ability can be implemented without any problems even with the 4-year-old Denon Prime GO. This capability can be implemented by changing the firmware - the Engine OS software. No new hardware is needed at all (Prime GO2, or Prime GO+). But it doesn't make much sense on the Denon Prime GO. Prime GO has powerful and smart streaming options (Tidal, Beatport, BS, SoundC). The entire song from the streaming server goes to Prime GO's dedicated buffer instantly, within seconds. Up to 250MB audio file size from streaming server. Track is complettely analyzed (BPM, Key, Waveform, ID tags, Beatgrid etc.) The song from the BT input on Omnis, goes into the buffer memory only while playing from BT source. A few seconds before the audio is routed to the Omnis Duo's main audio output. Max. 10 minutes (50MB) Basically, Prime GO doesn't even need BT input. Despite this, there will be BT input on Prime GO as well. I believe very soon.
Nice fisherprice unit... for 1500 bucks... ugly looking... and club standard fansheep will still buy it. PEOPLE, WAKE UP FFS - even a Denon Live 4 is cheaper (and much better) than this toy!
Please guys do me the favor and buy a Denon Prime Go. Its cheaper, more developed and has more features. Also the looks are better of the prime go. Blue? Why 😄 As now you can’t even argue the “club standard” it is far from a CDJ and if you own a Omnius Duo you almost as far away as using denon. Also you can hear the over positiv review for an unfinished product. Pioneer is keeping the pressure highe
The duo part is pretty acurate as it resembles a #2 pretty accurately = 💩💩💩 I used my Denon Prime Go on pretty crappy wifi over the holidays and instantly loaded tracks from Beatsource and Beatport via Wifi Streaming with prerendered music waveforms and track info instantly loaded on my screen from curated playlists and latest releases. Bluetooth? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
question - what about beatgrid editing? a fully standalone capable of streaming from beatport and alikes, should be able to do track analysis and beatgrid editing on its own. if this is not the case and you have to rely on rekordbox analysis, than it is a big no no for me.

I absolutely agree with this. I would love to see a successor to the 700s as well as an engine OS equivalent.
Love the idea but hate the design.
platters are awful - no displays, no thanks
Is it possible to program STEMs on the pads or is it strictly cue points and loops?
A preparation for the future
In @mojaxx defense, none of the reviewers, so far have REALLY criticized this experiment from Pioneer DJ. I wonder why… 🙄
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm 🤔
Been saying the same thing for a while too! This does look nice though.

I think the ZX is well overdue a make over and would love and hope to see lots of this new tech incorporated into the ZX2 and RX4

I'm really curious if Denon are planning to release upgrades of their groundbreaking equipment soon tho...
aiming to take out Denon here...wont happen though 😎
@@djstuc potentially yeah, Some of the Denon stuff is great
Lol fat chance of even competing with Denon let alone taking them out, they are clutching at straws and playing catch up with this product.
Denon and Numark staff are laughing there arse off, this AT fisher price is no match for them, even less for $1500 hahaha
The denon joghweels feel fisher price
1:17 Those tiny faders so close together doesn't look very ergonomic, even the Mixtour Pro has them more spaced
It’s a small portable unit not a large performance unit. Not for turntablism is it.
The aesthetics is reminiscent of the old Stanton SCS & CMP gear
Maybe I'll cop one of these, but I'll revisit it around summertime. I have a DDJ-REV7, which I love, but only found out that this device is standalone and so digging the form factor overall. I'll wait to see about how things flesh out with regards to additional features such as Serato support (not a fan of the Lite version, considering the controller's price). Will be interesting to see if the Prime GO steps up this year, but I"m otherwise enamored by having a standalone device that I can quickly cart off and use when I don't need the heft of the REV7. As always, great review Mojave.
Pricing is ridiculous 🤣
At first sight felt weird but then I loved it
Just bought this unit ocasionly for half price
So what can I say, it don't cost 1500 defenitly.
Also it’s not a controller. It’s a stand alone unit.
So what software is this running? Is it Rekordbox or did they create something specifically for the Alpha Theta branded materials?
I hear you about not having aux input. However, using a DI box I can connect to the mic inputs.
Dope review! So can I load two Bluetooth sources to both decks from Spotify, Tidal (on mobile) etc
Bluetooth audio input is a interesting concept. I would like to have more battery powered controllers for more mobile wireless events.
Possibly the worst looking controller I've ever seen. Looks like a toy for a 2 year old.
I was going to say it looks a but Fisher Price
I see a lot of negative comments here. I for one, am excited about this for one feature... MIC EQ! If the Prime Go had it, I'd be using it for ceremonies and when I bring that up in FB groups, users say "use a separate mixer". The whole point of a standalone, all-in-one is that you don't need other gear. With Mic EQ, this will be my ceremony unit. I could care less about streaming.
Where's the sync functionality, I assume within the touchscreen? The lack of a line input is.a serious miss IMO but I like the Bluetooth caching.
I don't get the aux input thing on portable DJ controllers. Are you using it for a groove box or synthesizer or something?
@@robertschnobert9090It opens endless possibilities for creativity and jamming with other devices (think the highly popular portable scratching for instance) but without the lag bullshit.
The XZ and the XDJ-1000s both need a refresh... id even go as far to include the 750mk2 mixer... they need to at least be brought up closer to what the Nexus/NXS line up gave us.
I think bluetooth out and the physical output available at the same time questions me a lot because of delay issues, if those blend together, the delay between two will makes a lot of messy sounds... (better to have hardware output a delayed signal out from option)
Why do reviews for Pioneer/AlphaTheta gear always come off like trying to convince someone why a 70s Ford Pinto is better than a Tesla?
Because reviewers don't want to lose the ability to have product sent to them.
Nice to see innovations coming in from Alpha Theta. The Bluetooth input, usb-c charger and looks are welcome! But still very much behind on the competition on aspects as dedicated stems control, live streaming and even no effects pads :-(. So I sorry but overpriced and late to the party.
Prime Go 2 should have USB-C charging, Bluetooth & SKAA connectivity, stems and bigger jogs.
A unlikely bonus Serato support would be nice.
There's no innovation here... its a blatant copy of what engine dj are doing down to the quick menu...
How does the sound quality compare to other devices? I assume it’s not as good as the opus quad but what pioneer device is comparable?
Adding streaming services on Pioneer/AT gear is not as easy as it sounds, they’ve never done it on any unit, even the top gear opus quad.. (only CDJ 3000 has Beatport streaming I think).
It requires to build track analysis features on the device, meta data management (cue points, loops, rating, tags..) for tracks which aren’t stored locally, and probably many other features that simply don’t exist on pioneer gear today. I think that’s why it’s taking so long.. but of course the Engine DJ software already has all of that so they probably should get going asap…
Something they should have been thinking about for going on 10 years or more
I like the idea of more portable/all in one hardware. Makes impromptu djing much more flexible and easy.
Great review.
Miss the twitch sets sir. ❤
Does it have Bluetooth input as well as output? How about using with WiFi streaming speakers like Sonos?
I mean its nice to hear that the Pioneer name isn't going anywhere
What a joke this thing. Seriously overpriced. For the 500€ cheaper you can get a Denon Go or SC Live 4 with internal speakers 4 decks normal effects etc. Just add it to a powerbank and you are good to go.
Yep, the Live 2/4 work absolutely fine with the XTPowerbanks from Amazon... 50 bucks, and they last for 5-6hrs, no problemo.
But how portable is the actual SC Live 4 unit? It's quite big, no? And no Bluetooth output to speakers.
How do the knobs and faders feel, solid and semi-professional or more like a cheaper midi controller?
They look really cheap and light weight plasticy on screen, don't they
shouldn't you compare it to the numark mixstream pro go? I think in terms of quality, the numark is closer to the alphatheta than the denon prime go.
How's mixstream different than prime go?

amazing review!
1500$ ????? Are you nuts? Nahhh ... Not nearly worth it.
EQ the mics! That what I was missing on the Prime GO. Just placed an order for the Omnis Duo just for that...
The prime go has a mic eq in the display.
Placing an order just because of Mic EQ - which the Go also has in the GUI - is incredibly stupid.

When mpc and ddj have a baby - it’s almost getting there
1 bluetooth input and 10 min cache per deck would be nice for b2attlin. double flip button be handy there too
I really like the concept of this and the Prime Go.
Always fancied one of them but can’t ever bring myself to buy Denon gear again.
it has to be said that the looping button was present in the XDJ-R1 very useful then disappeared and now back again as novely ?
The Auto-Loop button/knob has been standard issue on Denon gear since the SC5000. Not sure why Pioneer never got on this one, it's super handy and much quicker than setting in/out loops. I'd guess it's here, cause they were trying to clone the Prime Go.
it is indeed , pioneer had it in 2013 then got rid of it, I was lucky enough to have a XDJ-R1 for long time, mega useful@@KuroDensetsu
Can you slide the beat grid, like you can on CDJ and XDJ devices?
is it possible to reverse the crossfader ? to hamsterstyle ?
In today's economy, I don't see any reason to pay USD 1500 for any DJ gear. I wasn't impressed by this and don't see it selling. This product is not for me.
from what material this made? does it feel cheap or rock solid like denon go?
Wait even if I own serato pro I have to pay another fee?
This is a support controller for pro djs. Beginner/amateur djs cannot afford 1500 for something to learn from or to play 'at a friend's pool party'. Smh. I agree it's new tech, and some of the wireless features ARE useful, but at it's CORE, it doesn't do much more than say a ddj400 🤷♂️
Am i the only one who thinks this looks like shit?
Yep fully agree
Totally agree. If this was branded as Numark or Gemini or some other cheap brand, it would be criticised.

Yooo.. That bluetooth cache is really interesting!
It's a neat feature. I hope something like that shows up in the Denon Prime Go 2 🌈
@@robertschnobert9090 This feature is not hardware related.
Track is complettely analyzed (BPM, Key, Waveform, ID tags, Beatgrid etc.)
The song from the BT input on Omnis, goes into the buffer memory only while playing from BT source. A few seconds before the audio is routed to the Omnis Duo's main audio output. Max. 10 minutes (50MB)
Basically, Prime GO doesn't even need BT input. Despite this, there will be BT input on Prime GO as well. I believe very soon.

question - what about beatgrid editing? a fully standalone capable of streaming from beatport and alikes, should be able to do track analysis and beatgrid editing on its own. if this is not the case and you have to rely on rekordbox analysis, than it is a big no no for me.
It’s not capable of streaming from Beatport. You’re looking at the wrong device for your needs. Like knocking a bike when looking for a car.
