Me and my buddies used to watch this in the early days of TH-cam and try and play these licks. Alexi is a legend. RIP. You'll always be one of the greats.
Those fucking licks are impossible. I just tried to play only the second melody lick 2h straight and cant even do it half of the speed that it is in the video. Alexi really was the greatest guitarist ever. Rest In Peace.
Haha from 2003-2006 i was constantly trying to learn this to play live in our band, Bodom got most all of us into metal from generic thrash stuff as kids I went onto different black/death bands and hadn't listened to Bodom in over a decade, and got back into it after alexi died sadly haha I'm just glad i got to meet his drunk ass at the house of blues LA in '05, when we gave a jump start to Amon Amarths broken down van haha
this, and wondering how the hell they are making a violin sounds with a guitar. I'm still wondering that, but it's probably a playback and actual guitar sound is little low.
The love Alexi had for classical/baroque music was so evident in the first two albums, masterpieces. I saw them live in Rome with In Flames, Arch Enemy and Dark Tranquillity. Best concert of my life.
I was blindsided by his passing as I am sure many were....I still can't believe this legend is gone. I met him once about 20 years ago outside his tourbus. They opened for Dimmu Borgir on this tour. Very nice and respectful to me. RIP ALEXI!!!
R.I.P Alexi I won't forget the children of bodom show in 2012 in tel aviv. I was listening to children everyday 24/7 for 2 years than you guys came and it was epic as hell. such an epic character. You influnced music and metal a lot, a Legend in your life and in your death.
I remember it was around 2005 that i watched that video and then i sat down and practiced for months to learn how to play this on my guitar. I could play some songs from their first 3-4 albums, i could play all Death songs, but this was quite different. I wanted to learn how to play like this guy. Alexi Laiho was my guitar hero. He and Chuck Schuldiner. They both inspired a generation of metal guitar players. RIP legends
So glad I got to see children of bodom. They were well known when I saw them but it was a small show, like 200 people max. I remember 2 younger kids there that were around 12 or 13. Having the time of their lives, they knew everything about him they were obviously huge fans.
RIP Alexi. Lost my two biggest guitar heroes pretty close together. Eddie Van Halen who inspired me to pick up the guitar, and Alexi Laiho, who inspired me to play it.
I just searched for this after watching a video of Colin Furze.... a few seconds of this composition in another version played during his video... immediately it reminded me of this lesson.... and after a few searches i found it.... i loved listening to this again and again... Alexi you will be missed...
Yeah, I used to watch this video religiously after school when I was in high school and I see from the comments on this upload that I wasn’t the only one.
Learning to play guitar, came across his guitar worlds demo biting the box of DR strings promoting them. Loser I thought. Then I watched "betcha can't play this" fucking blown away. Then TH-cam search him and find this, dedicated myself and played along this video 100s of times. He and COB have remained my favorite guitarist and band. He was a legend
Yeah he was unreal!!!!!!!! The best by far!!!!! Never seen any guitarist like him live… I’ve seen thousands of the best… He stands out above them all… The coolest mf guitar player songwriter frontman any band could ever have asked for!!! Tuska Open air 2003!!!! That show blew my mind and I knew back in 2007 when I saw it the first time that I will never see anything that comes close..

I was looking for this song on Spotify, but didn't find it so I came here to find out that he died :( This amazing piece of art helped me fight depression when I was a teenager. Rest in peace!
Played this for my high school music final way back in 2007. Alexi and CoB were nearly unheard of in the States back then, nevermind Synergy. Legends Never Die.
Laiho was the genius. But this is what happens if you are the genius, but you don't know when your body has enough and needs some rest. Do you think that he was one of the best guitar players cause he did nothing? No, he worked hard, too hard. And then, when he was famous, he did too many gigs. Never stopped. Work, work, work... And it cost him his health and he tried to fix the psychic exhaustion with alcohol. All the bad decisions until it was too late. Lets take a learning.
