Most of the used oled phones (on ebay, swappa) will have pretty significant burn-ins. That’s why even the time, signal, wifi/LTE, and battery bar blurs, moves, or disappears when you, say, switch between apps, open the multi-app viewer, and open the notification bar. It’s to avoid image retention and burn-in. The blurs behind Safari’s search bar and likes reduces screen retention too! Heck, even games nowadays have their own method of reducing screen-burn in. From moving the hud back forth (common in racing games), auto-dimming the screen, and doing its “screensaver-like” thingy (like in GTSPORT where the game hides the menu UI leaving the dynamic background to move).
I’ve had a Xs max since launch and I haven’t had any burn in, though I mostly use it at around 35% brightness, and I don’t leave something on the screen for hours at a time
All of my oled iPhones have had green tinting at low brightness on a grey screen. All of them. The X and XS specifically had faintly green tinted lines going across the screen that were noticeable at low brightnesses.
Same here on my iPhone X! It looked so weird. I actually never had this problem on other OLED phones before, not even on the LG V30 which was said to have a horrible OLED screen...

Stefan Mohler Yeah, I also have a blue-green tint at lowest brightness on my 2-month-old 11 Pro Max. If anything I’m more worried about battery health than burn-in because I tend to stream video all day. Not a static image issue.

I have a question about the battery health. I have an iPhone X that I had bought a year ago last February used with 99% health. Just under a year later it is now already at 86% which seems not normal. I have not updated it since I got it so it is still running iOS 12.1.1. It seems very odd for it to have dropped that much in that short amount of time. Just want to get your thoughts on this?
when i open spotify using my iphone xr, the white pause button remain there after i closed the apps. about a few minutes it back to normal. is it normal?
I upgraded this year from the iPhone 13 Pro Max to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I am very happy so far with my new iPhone and I have not experienced any issues at all.
PSA: The 4 suppliers for the OLED displays are Samsung, LG Display, Japanese Display, and Sharp. Therefore, not everyone will have the same experiences(good or bad) with OLED image retention or OLED burn-in (which are two different things) on their OLED iPhones.
I’ve had the iPhone X since it came out and I’ve had no burn in. My friend has had the galaxy s9 since it’s release and there’s already burn in at the bottom where the three “buttons” are. My iPhone X is a year old and no issues with burn ins. I had the screen setting on True Tone which probably help to prevent burn ins. Battery life is still at 100%.
My current phone has amoled and my screen burn in is super bad and noticable so for the people worrying about it just to let you know that it's a pretty gradual change and I barely notice it bc I'm so used to it and it really doesn't make your screen image that much worse
Herr Keks iPhone X at 87% after almost 12 months, but its normal I live in a very warm climate and last summer was really hot & sunny and the phone was prone to direct sunlight a lot
Herr Keks Weird, I thought it was bad but when I watched Aaron’s videos and read what Apple’s has to say about battery I understood that I’m in one of the world’s hottest climate (Egypt & Kuwait) I kinda don’t care anymore since I charge it over night and it lasts me all day, so I’m fine. Btw, I don’t game on my phone, so if you do maybe that’s why you battery level is at 87%. Just enjoy your phone and replace the battery when it is lower that 80%, I intend to keep it until they don’t send out updates to iPhone X anymore
Omar Mohamed I don’t game as well, but I use an iPad Charger. I don’t necessarily want to leave it plugged in over night. And I also use it a lot. I might replace it when it is going under 75% or less. I also want to keep it a long time, especially since it is the last one with 3D-Touch which I love for the Keyboard. Back on Android I also used my old devices a bit for surfing when the new one was empty :) But since I have my iPhone I don’t use my Androids at all. I might upgrade a bit earlier than necessary and use the old one a bit further at home for random tasks. But I at least want to keep this one for the next 2 years (late 2021). I think this should be easily possible from an objective standpoint.
I went with iPhone 11 lcd over oled pro versions because of the flickering issue and eye strain with OLED. Gotta say, the iPhone 11 display is actually pretty good
My S9 is a bit more than a year old and is pretty good as far as screen burn in goes. There’s a bit of banding but the only thing burned in is a tiny bit of home button from the always on display and you can’t see that unless you have it on a really dark background

Screen Burn-in can be avoided by a software feature that moves static images if they stay for longer than 1 hour , Status bar for example can be moved from static position automatically every hour for about 0.3 mm on the screen and change color periodically from white to black or oposite , But manufacturers just don't want to make it

Had massive burn in problems with the Galaxy S8 and S9 then, but my iPhone XS luckily hasn’t .

@@indianajones5929 Well, now my XS does have burn in. Homebar and battery icon.
@@MerlinDerMagier
I wonder if to get an iPhone this time around but since they are getting samsung displays its 100% the same shit all over again.
I’ve had a Xs max since launch and I haven’t had any burn in, though I mostly use it at around 35% brightness, and I don’t leave something on the screen for hours at a time
Hey Aaron when are you going to do a video on “home button phone vs gesture based phone “ , which will last longer?????
@@lukeszns And there's no home button that can get broken.
Clifton Parchment gesture for the long run. No moving parts
Kudos to your wife for 90% battery health after two years!!
I’ve owned my iPhone X since Fall 2017 and I haven’t had a single issue with the screen or anything.
Nice for you to point this out. Happened to my s8 samsung and thankfully traded it in for s10+ 😉
Happend to me as well on my Samsung S5 and S7
I feel like it happens less frequently on samsung
Happened to my s8+ also. Never using Samsung again
@@JC-zj2is what do you use these days?
Tech Lid News IPhone XS, and it’s used heavily.
I love your videos Aaron. You always talk about something we care about. Topics that are very important like this one.
All of my oled iPhones have had green tinting at low brightness on a grey screen. All of them. The X and XS specifically had faintly green tinted lines going across the screen that were noticeable at low brightnesses.
Same here on my iPhone X! It looked so weird. I actually never had this problem on other OLED phones before, not even on the LG V30 which was said to have a horrible OLED screen...
sameee here!!
You’re doing something wrong then. Too much static images.
@@stefanmohler2994 Nonsense. It's jusr bad quality... I never showed static images, have the screen off setting at 2min and so on and I noticed this green shifting only 2 months after I bought the X. We just got iPhones with bad screens which can happen.
Stefan Mohler Yeah, I also have a blue-green tint at lowest brightness on my 2-month-old 11 Pro Max. If anything I’m more worried about battery health than burn-in because I tend to stream video all day. Not a static image issue.
I have a Galaxy S8 with tons of burn in. For a while, my keyboard was burned into my display. I also have a Galaxy S7, and that is almost flawless. The S8 had burn in within the first year. The S7 was used for a whole year. I'm switching to iPhone and it's good to see that burn in isn't a big deal.
hows the iphone? samsung always has burn in...
Hi Aaron, thanks for sharing this video!
I had one for a few minutes and it went away. Whats that mean
The Apple store in my area has burn in all of there OLED models except the 11 series
I’m a truck driver and use google maps all day. The buttons and position indicator burned into my XS Max. It happened in less than a year of use.
I have iphone x and i havent seen burn in on my iphone even though i open same photos for like 10 min almost everyday because sometimes we do test at tution from phones
I’ve had my iPhone 7 for 2 years and 2 months and as expected for an LCD panel, it’s burn-in free. But the battery is at 76% capacity.
Baconface McGee
How long does your battery last on a full charge?
Brandon Lee If left one my bed, several hours, if in use, depending on what I do, several minutes to some hours.
The iPhone 7 has an LCD display, not OLED
Juane9 I know.
@@BaconFaceMcGee his point is that oleds get burn ins easier and quicker

I upgraded this year from the iPhone 13 Pro Max to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I am very happy so far with my new iPhone and I have not experienced any issues at all.
I’m still on iOS 13.3 and the battery life has been getting worse as time has gone on. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max, with 100% battery health.
For Real FR it’s the fucking battery drain man
Sorry to hear that man I'm hearing this a lot from people at work. They're saying that their getting almost 2 hours less of screen on time.
i'm on 13.3 iphone 11.. how was your experience post ios 13.3?
I seen a lot of burn in on my 6s plus but now I’m using a 11 pro max , now I’m happy that I don’t have to see it any more
PSA:
The 4 suppliers for the OLED displays are Samsung, LG Display, Japanese Display, and Sharp. Therefore, not everyone will have the same experiences(good or bad) with OLED image retention or OLED burn-in (which are two different things) on their OLED iPhones.
Thanks for the awesome wallpaper today, Aaron. Great video as well.
Been using a Samsung Galaxy S8+ for nearly 2 years now. Not a single burn in issue till now. I think it mostly depends on user usage habits.
Will the burn in get worse as you use it
I’ve had the iPhone X since it came out and I’ve had no burn in. My friend has had the galaxy s9 since it’s release and there’s already burn in at the bottom where the three “buttons” are. Then again he keeps the display at full brightness, and I have auto brightness on at all times. So from what I’ve seen I recommend turning on auto brightness
I have just noticed a burn in on my 13 pro max after about use since launch
Same
Bro honestly i just cant risk it ill stick with lcd even though i love the tru blacks🤷🏾♂️
Edit: i used a s9+ so i know what im missing.. and trust me i do miss oled💯

@@arsalankhaleel2165 that's a shame lol. You're in luck though. There's rumors of a iphone SE 2 version coming. Maybe an upgraded display is in the order
Does permanent burn in mean i have to replace my screen or is it just an annoyance? On my iphone 11 there is just a little in the corner and side.. pretty light.
I had my XS Max since 3 days after release & I use it HEAVILY & no burn in or problems period

How do you keep the Battery’s Health at 90% for that iPhone X???
Thank you very much Aaron! 👍🏻
The top stuff showing the clock and percentage has burned into my screen
Hi there
I have iphone x from 13 months, heavy use,i do screen burn test and no issue at all👍👍
My iPhone XS is at 86% after 13 months :/ But I also don’t have any burned in spots.
Herr Keks iPhone X at 87% after almost 12 months, but its normal I live in a very warm climate and last summer was really hot & sunny and the phone was prone to direct sunlight a lot
Omar Mohamed It really is not too bad. I live Germany, so my phone is not exposed to extreme weather very often. But I tend to use my phone a lot. :)
I had an iPhone X and it had a screen-burn-in of my home-screen. Where can I send the pictures to show you?
Thx for sharing....Amazing Videos👍✌
Great video Aarron. The iPhone X display was made by Samsung. Were all of the iPhone 11series phone displays made by Samsung?
Yes
I went with iPhone 11 lcd over oled pro versions because of the flickering issue and eye strain with OLED. Gotta say, the iPhone 11 display is actually pretty good
if there was an iphone with 1080p lcd panel, i'd buy the shit out of it.

I have recently got 13 and after 2 months a minor ghosting is occurring near notch , thus that cover into the basic warranty offered by apple ?
My S9 is a bit more than a year old and is pretty good as far as screen burn in goes. There’s a bit of banding but the only thing burned in is a tiny bit of home button from the always on display and you can’t see that unless you have it on a really dark background

Why is screen burn a thing in 2020?
Covid 19 Quarantine
My LG V20 Burns in all the time. And it's using an OLED screen. But it only started doing that last year. So I think over time the OLED's get weak and more prone to burn in.
Should be interesting to see if and when the OLED displays on the iPhone's start to show signs of burn in.
No burn in images on my XS Max! I’ve own it since two months after release date
even apple on their page was forced to mention that oled screens will burn out, problem solved
May I see the sources for this video? Or is it based solely on personal opinion?
Screen Burn-in can be avoided by a software feature that moves static images if they stay for longer than 1 hour , Status bar for example can be moved from static position automatically every hour for about 0.3 mm on the screen and change color periodically from white to black or oposite , But manufacturers just don't want to make it
Apple incorporates that into iOS. It’s happening you just don’t know it.
my iphone 13 pro has a burn in from tiktok... its only visible on low brightness but its mad annoying
I am seeing my keyboard burnt in my screen

I actually got my moms old iPhone X it’s in perfect condition bcs she upgraded to the 11 but it has some pretty bad burn in and if u are able to tell me how to get it fixed for cheap let me know thank u
I have a theory- Every time he says “Many of you have been asking me”, he’s making that up.
He talks about the same things in multiple videos. Like, what iPhone to choose (2-3 videos on just that topic, just worded differently each time), burn-in, etc. Aron if you’re reading this, we notice. 😂
I unsubscribed because of exactly this. This is the first time I have been on his channel in months
Your theory is incorrect. I’ve never made a video about burn-in before this. I don’t make things up and people do ask. That’s where I got the video idea from. Yes I mention it in an iPhone video, but never in a dedicated video.
This is incorrect. If people didn’t ask, I wouldn’t say it.
@@zollotech You're right about the burn-in video - that is certainly what got me to come back to watching a video n your channel again. You make great content, no doubt. Thanks. I have to say “this is Aaron”, It’s my trademark that I am stuck with. Similar to Austin Evans or whoever else. I would like not to use it sometimes, but it’s now a thing and more people would get upset if I didn’t.
