Awe-inspiring video, as always -- actually, one of the *very* best! Still, Destiny's biggest letdown has been -- and probably always will be -- Bungie's insistence on that "the average gamer is too dumb for this deep stuff and doesn't care about it anyway, wants to just shoot things" (I have friends who have actually said this, except for the part about being stupid). In tucking the lore to the side and letting Loremasters like *My* *name* *is* *Byf* deliver the meaty stuff while Bungo shoves players into endless repeat grind of ultimately hollow Activities, the *promised* Star Wars/LotR-like potential of Destiny is wasted. Players will never remember shiver-inducing drama that would go into history books as some of finest *interactive* *story-telling* in gaming history ever, only some temporary adrenaline rush. That is truly tragic.
What I love about this weapon is that since it acts like black hammer where it doesn't refill the magazine from reserves it kind of compliments the hives need to feed since xol lives on in the whisper he wants us to feed him by killing with the gun as we kill he feeds and he doesn't want it to stop so when we land three headshots he will place three more rounds so we can keep feeding him

"Death is a road." Man if this didn't immediately make me think of the OST for 'The Fountain' by Clint Mansell. There is a track called "Death is the Road to Awe" and I've always strongly associate it (and the soundtrack as a whole) with the Hive. The movie is about accepting death as a part of nature - finding the beauty and majesty in being part of something larger than yourself. In death you will live forever. The whole tone of the music is reverant and absolutely gorgeous but there is a distinct ominous note - its haunting. I imagine it's how the Hive view their morbid task, they see it as a good thing - beautiful and wondrous, the one Truth of the universe. Anyway, the Hive are my favorite enemy faction and this soundtrack and the message in this movie are a perfect fit for them. The more people that know about it the better :)

I highly doubt this, but with the VOG portal in this mission it might be possible we see a vog remaster, or at least get to refight atheon or the Templar but instead they are taken. How amazing would that be. This could be like a mini raid lair maybe add one or two mechanics and they don't have to add all of the encounters back. I don't know I just thought that would be awesome to see
SirCreepsAlott Oryx did die in his throne world in the raid. He planned that if he ever was defeated, his foe (us) would seek out a weapon to sustain him. The ToM is a sliver of his soul. So I think if it did perish in the invasion he'd be snuffed out
well based on what we now know, it might not be destroyed so to speak, perhaps transformed, waiting to be reforged again into something even more perfect, like a taken version like what we see here with the hammer/spindle/whisper
If the vault is like a bank vault, then it was probably destroyed with all the others unless then there's a Cabal centurion running around with it. If the vault is like a giant jar of pickle juice holding the quantum particles of your gear, then it was smashed and the pickle juice splashed all over, dripping down the side of the tower and only a talented pickleman sorcerer of Savathun could sort it out. Or Master Rahul craving a sandwich.
So Xol is now the Whisper of the Worm, just as Oryx became the Touch of Malice, except more sentient and in control, but what happened to Nokris? Is he back in the Ascendant Realm? I would assume so.
Xol doesnt have an ascendant realm because he rejected the sword logic and bastardized it to create a new order among the hive pantheon. And eventually lead his undead army to destroy Oryx and his siblings. That is why Oryx cast him out and removed every mention of him from the dreadnought. Every worm god but Xol rejected him for his radical ideology that power can be found anywhere else but from sword logic.

im a returning player from destiny 1 on ps3 that got the ps4 very late. i really like snipers and i was very interested in the whisper, because of the place, the damage and the perks that it has, and, after that video im extremely pumped to get this weapon, well, now im grinding my ass off to light 1000 to solo this bad ass mission
This is the kind of storytelling that makes me crave a Destiny novel to be written. Hopefully there will be a day when such a thing happens, but until then, we will have to settle for Bungie's stellar lore work. Keep up the magnificent work Byf.

Byf, can you clear up a point of confusion I have with the hive lore? The hive for the most part look down on necromancy, but what about when Oryx brought back his two sisters back from their final deaths? Isn't that a form of necromancy? By what power where the sisters revived if not by some form of necromancy?
Ivegonefishing Oryx revived them not with necromancy. He abided by sword logic to bring them back. He revived his sisters by tricking, overpowering, and extinguishing an entire race to bring them back. He layed the foundation for why the hive worship death as a concept. As a means to best another and assert superiority. By his sisters willingly giving their lives to empower Oryx to do such a thing is proof that they themselves earned the right to exist.

Hey byf, got a question for you; if Xol and the other worm gods have been proven to be invertebrate, what will happen to the video book of sorrow as the worm gods their are Ahamkara. I myself now believe them to be worm-like and Yuul merely lies to the universe to appear differently, an irony granted by him being the 'honest' worm.
The Worm Gods are not Ahamkara. First the Ahamkara may not look like the worms at all. That is only noted from the D1 concept art. Second, the Worm Gods are not able to grant wishes. Akka granted Oryx HIS OWN power through death. The Worm Gods gave the Hive their worms as to make the Hive stronger and give the worms something to feed upon, to grow. Xol already had the power of Necromancy and gifted that to Nokris. The Ahamkara on the other hand were able to grant wishes to people but the wish would only destroy the wisher in eventuality. Does that answer everything before you spoke about Yuul?
The Dark Souls it was more a question aimed towards byf as he is the creator of the book of sorrow videos, not the source material. But yes it's exactly what I meant, they were never dragons in the first place only our perception of them and now that we see them we realise they are worm-like.

It will be interesting to see if they bring back old raid bosses in taken form. I could see Oryx and Atheon making a surprise appearance in the Dreaming City.
@@wolfofumbra8332 In the quest, Xol was able to bring back dead enemies as Taken. In Shadowkeep, the Pyramid is able to ressurect the villains of our past as who they were. When I made this comment, I believed that Xol's ability to ressurect the dead came from the Darkness itself.

Your Discord is awesome for LFG and socialising. I found a group there that was willing to give a 360 Hunter a try in the Whisper Quest and we pulled it off.
The Sword Logic is, in my opinion, one of the coolest little things in Destiny's universe. It doesn't give the Hive and Taken an advantage or a disadvantage, it's just an observation made by the Hive, and I love it. It's not beneficial nor detrimental to anyone, just a neutral theoretical force of nature.
Xol lives on....and as he does, Xol showed us one thing...death is a road. Such a strong statement. Xol found a way to live and feed because of us. I have to find that gate again and get that chest.

Xol doesnt have an ascendant realm because he rejected the sword logic and bastardized it to create a new order among the hive pantheon. And eventually lead his undead army to destroy Oryx and his siblings. That is why Oryx cast him out and removed every mention of him from the dreadnought. Every worm god but Xol rejected him for his radical ideology that power can be found anywhere else but from sword logic.

im a returning player from destiny 1 on ps3 that got the ps4 very late. i really like snipers and i was very interested in the whisper, because of the place, the damage and the perks that it has, and, after that video im extremely pumped to get this weapon, well, now im grinding my ass off to light 1000 to solo this bad ass mission

Yes and no. Akka is dead for good and oryx was just using his corpse as a makeshift ascendant realm. Xol managed to come back and turn into an entity that could effectively feed off of the death the worms love so much

Byf, can you clear up a point of confusion I have with the hive lore? The hive for the most part look down on necromancy, but what about when Oryx brought back his two sisters back from their final deaths? Isn't that a form of necromancy? By what power where the sisters revived if not by some form of necromancy?
Ivegonefishing Oryx revived them not with necromancy. He abided by sword logic to bring them back. He revived his sisters by tricking, overpowering, and extinguishing an entire race to bring them back. He layed the foundation for why the hive worship death as a concept. As a means to best another and assert superiority. By his sisters willingly giving their lives to empower Oryx to do such a thing is proof that they themselves earned the right to exist.

Hey byf, got a question for you; if Xol and the other worm gods have been proven to be invertebrate, what will happen to the video book of sorrow as the worm gods their are Ahamkara. I myself now believe them to be worm-like and Yuul merely lies to the universe to appear differently, an irony granted by him being the 'honest' worm.
The Worm Gods are not Ahamkara. First the Ahamkara may not look like the worms at all. That is only noted from the D1 concept art. Second, the Worm Gods are not able to grant wishes. Akka granted Oryx HIS OWN power through death. The Worm Gods gave the Hive their worms as to make the Hive stronger and give the worms something to feed upon, to grow. Xol already had the power of Necromancy and gifted that to Nokris. The Ahamkara on the other hand were able to grant wishes to people but the wish would only destroy the wisher in eventuality. Does that answer everything before you spoke about Yuul?
The Dark Souls it was more a question aimed towards byf as he is the creator of the book of sorrow videos, not the source material. But yes it's exactly what I meant, they were never dragons in the first place only our perception of them and now that we see them we realise they are worm-like.

GGyourdead no I'm aware of that it's just we, the player base, believed them to be the same and I'm curious as to what byf will do now that the worm gods are not Ahamkara as he poised them as such in his book of sorrow series
It will be interesting to see if they bring back old raid bosses in taken form. I could see Oryx and Atheon making a surprise appearance in the Dreaming City.

@@wolfofumbra8332 In the quest, Xol was able to bring back dead enemies as Taken. In Shadowkeep, the Pyramid is able to ressurect the villains of our past as who they were. When I made this comment, I believed that Xol's ability to ressurect the dead came from the Darkness itself.

This shit right here is why I loved Destiny before and it's lore and videos like this that will restore my love for the franchise again.
The Sword Logic is, in my opinion, one of the coolest little things in Destiny's universe. It doesn't give the Hive and Taken an advantage or a disadvantage, it's just an observation made by the Hive, and I love it. It's not beneficial nor detrimental to anyone, just a neutral theoretical force of nature.
