With a new Power Rangers movie approaching, we thought it'd be fun to go looking for sins in the original 1995 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie. But it wasn't fun, it was grueling. It sucked ass. This movie is balls.

If his slaves died, he'd need to get more slaves, and that would run the risk of people in other cities/states/countries noticing that all of the adults in and around Angel Grove are missing and set back his plans. Better to keep the slaves he currently has alive than slow down the excavation.

Despite all of its flaws as a movie, this movie produced the single best line in all of cinema: “I had a weak back, about a week back!”
Repeated that line all the time thinking I was coolness personified ever since :) Plus even in my 20s/30s its funny while stoned with mates your age since they all get it

I have a problem, I binged every power rangers show for an entire weekend once in 6th grade.
In fairness, Kimberly's parents were divorced, and Tommy...I can't remember if he was adopted or if he came from a broken home, but either way it was more about Kimberly herself than the rest of them, I think. There was even a whole thing in Season 3 when her mom was getting remarried and her nightmare about the new guy turned into the MOTW.
What actually got me in the film, even as a kid, was that Zordon dying made/makes no sense. In Green with Evil, the bad at the time green ranger f***s with some command centre systems, merely making the centre, Alpha, rangers etc LOSE Zordon, not have him end up dead. It was always shown that he seemed to be in another dimension at all times and what we saw on the gray face screen was the best he could do at communication on Earth. Most of the command centre scenes in the successive episodes were about trying to FIND and LOCK ON to Zordon, not revive him.
So, Ivan somehow twatting him and leaving him very nearly corpsey, literally just lying there in the command centre, made no sense then and even doesn't now.
Should have had a bonus round of how many whip sound effects they used unnecessarily
Look up the songs "Whip Appeal" by Babyface and "Let It Whip" by the Dazz Band. ....whipping was a thing back in the day

I watched this movie as a kid. Still have the VHS. Have it on DVD too. I’m 25 and still watch and enjoy it every once in a while. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

100% agree. I understand from a high hollywood standpoint that people would give some of the jokes/one liners a bad rep... but this is Power Rangers, that's part of why it's so popular in the first place and part of what drove the series to their first big screen film!

Hey, I used to love this film when I was little. There was another power rangers film that came after as well...can't for the life of me remember what it was called though. Though one thing I'll never forget is the Bunyip song from Dot and the Kangaroo, that was made a good few years before I was born but we had the VHS. If you don't know the Bunyip song, don't look it up unless you want Nightmares.
Power Rangers Turbo, it wasn't that great either. And totally screwed up the TV show's plot about how they got their Turbo powers.
It´s kind of enjoyable how cheesy this movie is.
I know right I remember watching this as a kid didn't think much of it but now that I'm actually rewatching it as an adult kind of sucks lol.

Each viewing of this movie takes ten years off my lifespan, but it's worth it.
Power Rangers were my childhood so for all the cheese of this movie I still have an irrational love for it. Same with Mortal Kombat, both of which I saw in theaters back in the day to my parents' dismay. lol

I give credit to JYB because he's such a talented voice actor now! The real sin is these aged 25-30 something actors are supposed to portray teenagers.
Actually, from what I heard, most of the Gen-1 Rangers were played by actual teenagers.
Or at least, actors who were teenagers at the start of their run on the show.
The only "teenager" who was played by an adult right from the beginning was the pink ranger

Because in the context of the film, it is some random fictional American place. It's not set in Australia. Being filmed in Australia in reality is irrelevant.

+1 sin, zordon only sought out five. Tommy came in later as a puppet of Rita and turned against her to become part of the team after he was defeated and her spell over him was broken.
in what was then the present day, yes. but Zordon's first team of Rangers, the ones who put Rita in the dumpster to begin with, was a team of 6. Rita managed to get a hold of the green Power Coin before her defeat, hence her using it in Green With Evil.
And Zordon only chose Kim and Billy

I think the kids trying to take matters in their own hands really brought the movie together. Tommy never became the "Red Turbo ranger", he became the the Red/5 Zeo Ranger. But I always pointed that out.
Zach: Black Ranger (Black)
Trini: Yellow Ranger (Asian)
Jason: Red Ranger (part Native American & Italian)
Tommy: Green, White, Zeo Red and then Dinosaur Black Ranger.
Kimberly: Pink Ranger (Girl)
Billy: Blue Ranger (Boy/but was also cast as the blue ranger cause he was gay :( ).
That's why they had to switch out Jason, Trini & Zach, because people caught onto it, and they had to switch out Tommy from green to white both for popularity and character growth but there's been some hidden comments dealing with bigoted comments from formers cast members calling him a "greedy jew" (cause he was being paid FAAAARRR more than the rest of them) and the green (money) Power Ranger suit needed to be done with. Also it gave a notion to children that "green is bad/evil" and the first thing that most American children associate green with is...money.
I've researched and read so much of what went on behind the scenes. Majority of the cast actually hated Tommy (JDF), most of the cast and onset crew constantly teased and harrassed Billy for being gay and a few fights broke out amongst cast members from time to time.

Also, can you sin the Power Rangers TURBO movie at some point? (Yes, it had a movie that got an actual theatrical release like this one)
