Love the video… BUT: 1. Zordon actually did have British accent… a distorted one but it was there. The original voice actor Dave Fielding was British. 2. Adam was the one who was supposed to get the audio stuff in his helmet. Not Billy. Great video though :)
My childhood right here. This, WWF, X-Men, Ninja Turtles, Batman, and yeah. I still have the old school green ranger action figure in the box and dressed as him for the past 2 halloweens. I was 10 when this movie came out. Love this stuff!
I never had the movie but my cousin did and sometimes when i would come over we would watch it. It was pretty good as a kid and my cousin had all the toys and still does today which is pretty cool.
Skull was played by a family friend of mine. My mom even got him to show up at my elementary school in costume. Good memories with this movie and the OG show.
I saw this in the theater when I was a kid and I still remember how the "I'm a frog" line got the biggest laughs. So cool to learn that was improvised and I'm so glad they left it in! Ivan Ooze was also hilarious. That actor fully embraced the oozy goodness. "What is that odious stench? It smells like... teenagers."
Amen to that! JDF (aka Tommy) always did have the better zords as his time holding the Power Ranger mantle. But his two best roles were and always will be The Green Ranger and White Ranger.. With his DragonZord, and White TigerZord.
point of odor: they gave _Billy_ some contacts. The character. Meaning they were diegetic contacts, not real. Yost didn't have to put contacts in to portray the character.. because that would be assy.
I still have the VHS copy of this movie. One thing I like about MMPR The Movie is how this is an actual movie and not just an extended eps. of the show unlike Power Rangers Turbo The Movie.
The day this came out my dad let me skip school and we went and saw it in theaters. It was awesome. The theater had local people dressed up as the Power Rangers doing a meet and greet and a photo op with everybody outside before wewent in.
Little kid me was always salty and didn't understand why they couldn't have these cool suits in the tv series that aired after the movie. Wasn't for many years after that I learned wtf was going on with the Japanese scenes.
My husband and I took our son and his friends to this movie when it was released. As parents, we thought it was cute, but we actually discussed the fact that it didn't show injuries. We didn't need gushing blood, but we felt it should show kids that fighting like this would cause bleeding when sliced. After all, as a mum, I certainly had to patch up my share of injuries from recreating movie moves irl (lol). ;) I always had a soft spot for the black/green ranger being a frog. That improvised scene touching. :)
Right? Sensible parents would want to see consequences. Though that would definitely stop a lot of Batman products in their tracks, as the crooks he subdues would almost definitely die of their injuries.. The irony is on the show, being hit would cause sparks to fly out, meaning those actors had a bunch of pyrotechnics going off right on their bodies.. that's significantly more dangerous than pretending to get hit by a sword and adding some stage blood.
The sad fact is certain IPs cant become overly successful without certain groups of people out there trying to shut it down. Harry Potter for its use of witchcraft. Power Rangers for its use of martial arts. Even though the show itself has a lot of well written stories that teaches kids great lessons like team work, patience, working hard, repurcussions etc. There were a lot more like Buffy the vampire slayer and Angel, but i cant remember most of them.
Well Jason, Trini and Zack were supposed to be part of this film but due to contract disputes they left the series. I think this film wouldve been the perfect way to send of the characters of Trini, Zack and Jason had the actors stayed.
This was my favorite movie as a child. It is literally one of the best films ever made. All the changes they made from the original cast and characters where totally for the best.
He was Lowkey the most jacked and fit guy on the show. An actual real life gymnast. Which is why the show runners went out of their way to cover him in baggy clothes. But they toned it down by the time this movie came out.
My uncle bought me the movie the day it came out. He also got me a pack of power ranger cards and I literally pulled 1 of 12 holo Ivan ooze cards. Still got it
Thank you MT! I remember watching this in the theatre with my mom, and at age 36, I still love the Power Rangers! Also, when my dad asked me to take up martial arts as a kid, I first didn’t want to as I was 5 years old, but when I saw this movie with my mom I changed my mind, mainly because of JDF, and the rest is history. RIP JDF, the greatest ranger ever.
I'm not sure if this was intended or not, but I love that Dulcea's name looks and sounds very close to "dulcet", which means soft and sweet sounding. The irony is that her weapon against the Oozemen sounds like "nails on a chalkboard". I'm overthinking it, but it was a thought.
I will say, Kimbery's scream when she's stuck in the dino ribbs was truly done really well. Like she actually was screaming like her life was in danger and not just acting like it was a scary.
The costume performers don't get enough credit for their stunt work in this movie. Because those suits were grueling to perform in. Very limited range of motion and were extremely hot.
Red ranger and pink ranger were my wrestling partners growing up. Those roughly 2.5ft soft bodies with the harder heads got powerbombed and choke slammed onto every surface in and around the house.
Im so glad Heavy Spoilers took on MT, this is gold. No one else can review this movie as well. I wouldnt care for this video if anyone else did it. This is perfect. Thank you MT.
Ivan Ooze! I got this film for my Christmas but there was a power cut due to heavy snow. I was itching to watch it and ended up having a massive argument with my dad who wanted to listen to his new record when the power came back on. The second I saw the title of this video that "Uh Oh, we're in trouble" song started playing in my head. My mum HATED that song. Safe to say I was in love with the pink Ranger.
The "Alien Rangers" and the ninja zords were taken from Kakuranger, and the animal zords correspond with the ninja rangers whose names were taken from Japanese folklore such as Jiraiya and the frog. Which is why the frog was a ninja zord. You'll notice these names and motifs again as characters in Naruto. I feel like that could have been explained better in a breakdown video of all things instead of saying the frog zord was ridiculous. lmao
Saw this in the cinema as a kid, and the hype was REAL! Queues out the building, we all had themed combo boxes of popcorns and drinks in these funky little trays and when the 'action boy now' or whatever song it was came on and they started kicking ass the packed theatre erupted. I dont care its cheesy, and camp, and non canon whatever, that was probably the best cinema going experience i ever had. And to put that into perspective, i saw Jurassic Park front row as a 7 year old, was front and centre for First Contact,Pokemon first movie, Titanic, Aladdin (the good one from the 90s with Robin williams), lion king, The Simpsons movie, Matrix and many other 'best movies' but none beat the vibe of Power Rangers the movie, man the films in the 90s just hit different.
When I was little, and Dulcea came onscreen, my little Power Ranger said it was morphin time out of nowhere. I was a very different kid from that day on.
I’ve never seen any red berets not do any jumps without being hooked up to a static line. Unless you were pertaining to special forces/operators that had a recruit join at 17, and not fail selection or training before being assigned to a group, lol. Other than that, if someone is lucky, they will do all the jump schools, and qualify for the HALO at a minimum age of 22. There hasn’t been any young late teenagers, that are able to free fall in the military, and be able to control were and how they land. But I applaud you for pointing out that knees, back, and ankles are still crunching lol
This movie would've been MUCH better written had Jason, Trini and Zack be included. It would've been a more ensemble cast. It is CLEAR that Tommy and Kim are the ones carrying the team and Billy also around but Aisha, Adam and Rocky are COMPLETELY relegated because they're new. The Red Ranger, such a powerful and forefront team lead in the show is just in the background with Rocky, this actually wasn't any different in the show either. As a kid, I LOVED the movie and I LOVED this alternative timeline, it felt much more cinematic, but if the original team had stayed I would've been BLOWN AWAY!
The CGI for the zord battle was shockingly bad to me even in the 90s. I think I liked the rest of it though. I thought Paul Freeman actually tried and I appreciated that about him. He could've just kept cashing his Indiana Jones checks and stayed home. Would love a breakdown of Turbo.
I remember when this came out. I was so excited. I hated how the Zords looked but it was a great movie. I was really Sad that Dolcea and Ivan Ooze weren't brought to the main line series. I think they missed and opportunity there. Especially since Rito seemed to have been a one off monster fight, Ivan could have easily replaced him . They made a whole set of toys featuring the new weapons. Even though we only got to we like 2 of them. I wish we had seen more. They pretty much abandoned the weapons aspect in the second and third seasons. With only Tommy having one.
4:18 when I saw his badge it made me think this was later on in the future of the series. The show follows them while in high school but the movie seemed to be after. But in reality I think it was just so they could keep stealing content and had to transition the show to the newer zords they got from Japan
This movie was a huge part of my childhood like everyone else in the comments. I dressed as the blue ranger practically all year after this came out. Absolutely love it thanks!
This movie came out 2 days after my 7th birthday. Man, I miss my childhood. Power rangers, BTAS, ninja turtles, Beetleborgs, Spiderman, Saturday morning cartoons.
I remember dragging my dad with me to see it some 30+ years ago, and for the life of me i couldnt actually remember that their suits looked so good. I still had the image of the spandex ones from the show in mind and not these ones.
You should have mentioned due to being over time that they also filmed episodes for the tv series here too. Ivan Ooze was hospitalised during production from on set injury. Not all of the movie was made in Sydney! I believe the dinosaurs in the forrest were in Queensland. Could have mentioned the tower used in the end was built for Sydney Olympics and still exists. Also the fact they originally filmed the ranger action sequences without the visors in the helmets but realised it looked ridiculous and reshot with visors added. This was later used in the 2017 movie with several scenes without visors
I love Johnny's adlib of "I'm a frog..." and the actress's sweet response to him. I once saw him speak at a Comic-Con (dude is REALLY funny) and he said he wanted to do a similar thing in Turbo when he got the mini-van by saying, "But I DON'T EVEN HAVE A FAMILY!!!," but the movie runners nixed it. That line alone would have made Turbo Sooo much better.
I was today years old when I found out this wasn’t canon to the 90’s TV show 😮. I was hyped as a kid and so this movie was apart of my childhood as well as the power rangers in general. But I could have sworn the movie Zords were in the TV show following the movies release.
The Tengu warriors were meant to be much more violent in the original movie. They were meant to brutalize the rangers. One was meant to leave scratches on Kimberly's back, another left cuts on Adam's hand, and Tommy was supposed to be cut all over. Glad we never got that. Because that would've pissed me off.
I’m sorry but this might be my hearts favorite movie of all time. The positive energy, the cast, my childhood all made an amazing movie that I can still watch and love to this day. This movie is truly a happy place and an escape to a time long past
Man I just re-watched it like a 2 to 3 weeks prior to your video ! Just watched it and felt like my childhood come back !! It was so much fun back then !! Thanks for the breakdown it was really good
I remember when i first saw a behind the scenes short featurette for this on "The Pagemaster" vhs i had. SOON as it finally dropped on vhs we got and watched it almost everyday. That power ranger vhs was weird because when you fast forward to the very end of the tape it had the end fight from Double Dragon the movie as if it had been taped over 😂😂😂. I always wondered if i had a bootleg copy but the quality seemed too good to be bootlegged 😂😂😂
Huge thank you for checking out the video and shoutouts to MT for this trip down memory lane

Those Guardian things kinda look like the skeleton with the power level detector thing earlier in the movie
Love this. Keep it up
Ty for making this!
I didn't know a lot of these facts! Very cool!
