I'm really disconnected from the general gaming audience. When grifts like this work and make money I lose some hope. People buying and reviewing games because of Twitter arguments is genuinely so baffling to me. It bothers me when all discussion surrounding the game is about something outside of the game, when the game itself is totally left out of the discussion. The people championing this don't do it for the love of the game, but out of politics, the thing they claim to hate, the thing that is apparently ruining gaming. The dev has put more time into NOT doing the thing people are requesting, claiming that it would take too much time, than to just do it. My guess is that there is a line in the code that checks if the potential partners have different genders. If that takes up more than one line of code, there are bigger issues with the game than this. In the end, every game isn't for everyone and that's a good thing, but how the wider gaming community acts is very disheartening. I wonder why so many are buying games out of spite instead of actually loving the game.
Your comment is exactly why I made this video. It is very disheartening seeing this happen over and over, and I feel like it's important to speak up when we can. I haven't seen a single video made in disagreement with the developer, so I figure I'd do what I can even if my voice is incredibly small. Good news is, I think theres a large majority of people who are sane individuals like you and me, I like to think the comments here prove that.
Yeah, seeing the wave of "anti-woke" support always dumbfounded me like the people that just buys games cause of some aspect not related to the game like memes, it's made me question a lot of publicity and people's intentions when buying games and WHAT influences me to buy games.
Thats the thing, despite the review stuff if you look at info on the game it seems it did not have a huge sales spike. just the same slow build as normal lol
It's called Shapez 2, it's a simplistic Factorio style game and it's great. I thought I mentioned it in the video but I think I cut it last minute when I cut out a good 5 minute chunk of irrelivent stuff.
I remember when this first kicked off, and it was a believable story as the LGBT(etc) community have been known to do this. I almost ended up being apart of some circles that did this sorta stuff a few years back. To be entirely fair, most communities have people that do this sorta crap, especially online. However, when you actually look into this on any level, it becomes obvious that it's fabricated. When I looked at the steam reviews they were almost all talking about how "based" the dev is - not one negative review complaining about this functionality or their response... a classic case of people fighting against something that isn't happening (or isn't actually an issue). Seems to get more common everyday and the consequences extend well beyond being gay in a video game. Time and time again in the UK people take action against minor inconveniences whilst barely talking about the fact many of us are unable to consistently afford food, let alone own a home.
People fighting against things that don't actually exist drives me mad. Like sure, you can find extremists of any type online, you can always find a tweet that believes in something crazy. But when people take that very very small amount of people and act like it's an epidemic is when it's harmful. It's very important to unironically touch grass and go outside and realize the vast VAST majority of people are just normal people trying to get by. Good on you for not becoming part of that circle, and for taking the time to look up more about the situation and not just accepting it at face value.
Kind of a shame that the game LOOKS good, but the dev used such dishonest methods, maybe even toxic since he is fanning the flames to the hate fire, giving asshole more bravado that could always end up escalating worse... Not to mention poisoning the well of his community which is it's own little hell scape in the making. Won't surprise me if down the years he slips down a slippery slope or something.
soulash 2 is a great game. those of us in the community saw this happen live. it actually happened. the sad part is now people wont understand what they missed
There's no such thing as a sensitive topic only sensitive people. If you can't have discussion, you can't have solutions. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink, you can show support for something to be added to a game but you can't make a dev add it. If you want representation, make a mod, make your own game, ask, but you can't make someone include what they don't want, and if that bothers you, don't buy it? Not sure why people get so butt hurt over being told no and people trying to force their beliefs and culture on someone who doesn't live in their country or community are wild. That aside, people will take attention and use it to garner support or attraction good or bad. I don't agree with the way the dev handles their PR, but the people making a big deal over it are giving the Dev exactly what they want, outrage attention for their game. Let it die, stop making posts, videos, or responses, it's not going to do anything except benefit and energize opposition to get involved.
In a perfect world, I completely agree. People shouldn't be so sensitive to being told no, and the dev shouldn't have handled it the way he did. But we're here now, and people are upset on both sides, so we gotta deal with what we have. and normally I agree that mentioning it just makes the problem worse, which is why this channel isn't and won't be dedicated to this sort of stuff. but, there were no videos made in support of the people (that I could find), pretty much all gaming circles sided with the dev, so I figured I'd give my two cents. Does the world need it? No. But I did it anyway! I appreciate you weighing in.

You then accused him of 'intentionally misleading people into thinking he said he got review bombed' so that he could use it as a "well actually, I didn't say that." for actually no reason at all.
He did nothing wrong. He turned them down politely, but they refused to let it go. Accusations on forums and reviews were thrown at him despite that he'd been reasonable. Then he shut down the discussions after a few days and banned the ones that kept bringing it up. He gave them plenty of time to calm down and drop it. Removing them was a necessary thing to do. An indie alpha stage game like this relies a lot on feedback and need to preserve a positive and productive environment. He also have to put the foot down especially hard on those who try to coerce him into doing things, as it's dangerous to encourage such behavior. They lied about it, claiming they were banned for asking, which fed the bigger backlash which came from outside the community. The clown Wanderbots even went on a stupid tangent recommending LGBT games, proving that this was always about politics. They move the goalpost and pretend that his sin was the later tweets, but it's obvious that it's him refusing to add LGBT themes that was the issue. When Wanderbots locked his comments because anti-woke ppl were ridiculing him, he proved the dev right. He couldn't deal with harassers in his comments on a stupid twitter thread. How do you think an actual solo dev feels about his life's work being invaded by ppl who try to impose their views and suggestions on him? And although the negative reviews started slow, they really picked up after Wanderbots and others spread the controversy to a wider audience. This is what these activists do. They stir up trouble, manipulate the narrative and cherry pick stuff to their useful idiot allies, moving the goalpost if necessary. So if the nazi tweet was the problem, then he was an actual victim of activists trying to make him bend the knee to the rainbow flag. So what exactly was so controversial about that tweet? "..and now some spoiled brats think I'll bend the knee to their rainbow flag, or else they'll type some words." That's the literal quote. How can you spin him saying that he expects these ppl to type words about him, as him saying they're as bad as nazis and communists, who were known for genocide, confiscation of wealth, deadly political persecution and forced labour. Did he ever express concern about his physical safety or about them getting him into legal trouble? No. You have to be completely unhinged to come to the conclusion that he was saying that these ppl were as bad as nazis. And that's when the review bombing and accusations really took off, when outside LGBT supporters invaded the game's community. And only after that, did anti-woke channels start to talk about it, as they should have, since it was a clear attempt to enforce LGBT themes on a game (the first wave) and punish them for not implementing them (the big wave).

7:43 If Arthur lives in Poland, it means that he is 1 day in the future. He was already in August 25 and saw the reviews that appeared on August 25. Then he made a tweet that could be August 24 according to American time (because it was August 24 in California), but Artut himself being in Poland lives in 25. That seems to me the most logical explanation, but Idk anything about it.
@@Narantir that's a valid point but the only reason I'd disagree is because all of the comments on the 25 referenced the tweet and the ones on the 24th didn't. He also claimed himself in his tweet there were only 5 original down votes before his tweet.
Your maths doesn't add up, and I suspect you're just getting AM and PM mixed up - no biggie, that's why the 24 hour clock exists ("military time" to you Americans, I believe?). Regardless, let's just do the sums to be clear: There's a 10 hour difference between Poland and the US west coast, UTC+2 and UTC-8 timezones respectively. The tweet was posted at 12:45pm (1245 military time) on August 24th according to the screenshot. If the screenshot was from Poland (UTC+2), that would be the same date at 2:45am (0245) on the US west coast (UTC-8). If the screenshot was from the US west coast (UTC-8), it would be the same date at 10:45pm (2245) in Poland (UTC+2) Even if Artur was from *Moscow*, it still would've only been 2345 on the 24th.
Thats not how math and timezones work. I am from Czech Republic and in a same timezone Poland and Arthur is. I can assure you that even here, he still made that post BEFORE the review bombing.
Don't need to say homophobic slurs to be homophobic, actions and word choice can showcase this just as well. This game seems like an RPG type game anyways, having an option to be gay can be something people can appreciate regardless of a user's IRL sexuality. The game Fable, since about The Last Chapters, gave you the option to be gay, bi or straight, a couple decades ago nobody had much, if any, problems about it. Developers can have their choice and people will accept that, the problem here is as stated in this video.
*Hot debate but:* We should like, stop pushing LGB ideas in games... Representation is good, but thats not why these games are build. It's like saying "This FPS game SHOULDNT have shooting because some of us are pacifists"
I agree that we should stop pushing for representation, it's entirely up to a developer to do those things if they want, honestly I don't really care at the end of the day if a game does or doesn't have representation. BUT I also think people are allowed to question things, and disagree. I hope my video is proof that the vast vast majority of people didn't care about Aturs original decision to not include gay marriage, but rather the mean spirited tweets and hateful attitude he has towards the community that people took offense to. I never said the original 5 people were right to go and downvote the game, I actually think they're in the wrong, but it was just something I glossed over to talk more about how he responded.
@@RenegadePige At the core of games, we created them to get away from reality and to go wild with our imagination, yet people are forcing *their* reality into *our* games. If they want that so bad, then let them make their own game, but don't tear down other great studios with them, just because of what they want. We were taught as kids to not be *selfish*, And what they are doing sounds exactly like that. Getting what they want, not what we want.
Define "Pushing them in games" I hear this alot, but I dont really undestand how do you define it... You could say BG3 for example has LBTQ and DEI content...did they "push" it in? I think it really doesnt matter if you involve LBTQ and DEI in your games...After all, LBTQ and minorities exist, so its nice to involve them in our games and make other people avare that they exist...what really matters is, if the games are good. For example: As already mentioned, BG3 could be considered a "woke" game. However nobody really calls it woke, because nobody dares to call such a popular and favourite game "woke"...Because its a good game Concord on the other hand has clearly "woke" aspects too. However compare to BG3, it is constantly criticized for being "woke". Is it really the "woke" that made the game bad tho? Or is it simly because the game is a bad game? It just sounds to me that the "woke" and "LBTQ has no place in games" argument only works when the game is bad and its only used as a message for political agenda about "how leftists ruin video games" rather than an actual real argument about "why the game is bad".
As for the actual topic... I mean, does it really HURT to ask? I treat it as a QOL feature, if you can add it and it brings positives pushing for it wouldn't be too distinct to pushing for more accessibility features, it just caters to a different group in a different aspect than accessibility like TTS or high contrast for example

Regardless, let's just do the sums to be clear:
There's a 10 hour difference between Poland and the US west coast, UTC+2 and UTC-8 timezones respectively.
The tweet was posted at 12:45pm (1245 military time) on August 24th according to the screenshot.
If the screenshot was from Poland (UTC+2), that would be the same date at 2:45am (0245) on the US west coast (UTC-8).
If the screenshot was from the US west coast (UTC-8), it would be the same date at 10:45pm (2245) in Poland (UTC+2)
Even if Artur was from *Moscow*, it still would've only been 2345 on the 24th.
Thats not how math and timezones work.
I am from Czech Republic and in a same timezone Poland and Arthur is. I can assure you that even here, he still made that post BEFORE the review bombing.
Man, i hate when people lie.....
me too buddy
Dev lied about the scale of what he experienced, in an issue he created for himself
Oh no people just try to clarify what they meant, this must mean that they hate me and try to get a group against me
Don't need to say homophobic slurs to be homophobic, actions and word choice can showcase this just as well.
The Sims has allowed characters to be gay since... if I'm not mistaken, the first game, which came out back in 2000.
Same thing with the dei detector website screaming wolf about google blocking his site when it was visible
You age like fine wine
I think I rock the beer gut daddy vibe pretty well
*Hot debate but:*
We should like, stop pushing LGB ideas in games...
We were taught as kids to not be *selfish*,
And what they are doing sounds exactly like that. Getting what they want, not what we want.
Define "Pushing them in games"
I hear this alot, but I dont really undestand how do you define it...
For example:
As already mentioned, BG3 could be considered a "woke" game. However nobody really calls it woke, because nobody dares to call such a popular and favourite game "woke"...Because its a good game
Concord on the other hand has clearly "woke" aspects too.
@@GrimmaStadguardthis is a genuinely valid point, very much like "Rules for thee but not for me" but for the public opinion of a game. .
Artur pulled the victim card faster the yu-gi-oh pulls the greencard when he sees cops

@@KaosAlpaca "Stating a fact"? What is this "fact" based on and what is the methodology?
I don't think a Gamedev should have to do anything someone wants, he shouldn't have acted like he was getting attacked, but i don't think representation has to be in every single game
The problem is that nobody would really care about him not adding the feature.... People started to care, because he went schizo mode on social media.
