    The late '80s was one of Corrie's greatest era's. The Alan/Rita saga was gripping and Alan was a great villian. I wouldn't have killed him off at all but instead had him disappear for a long time and then come back to haunt Rita years later just when she finally thinks she is rid of him for good!

    Mark Eden (Alan Bradley) isn't anything like that in real life. I've met him and his wife, Sue Nicholls who plays "Audrey" several times at the supermarket where I used to work, and they are the nicest people you could hope to meet. Sue was surprised I remembered her as Nadia Popov from "RENTAGHOST", and she actually went into character right there at my till with her trademark sneeze ! :D

    I remember watching this ss a small kid with my parents. They were glued to the show, especially during the Rita and Alan story. It was tense stuff, but they both cheered when the tram bounced him.

    “Get out of that bed before I drag you out”.
    Apparently, when this episode was aired a woman viewer contacted Granada to tell them to warn Rita that Alan was in Blackpool and looking for her.
    Blackpool Transport had a 100% safety record during this time, so to stop the driver instantly braking when the stuntman approached the tram a member of the production team had to lie down in the cab and keep the driver’s foot away from the brake.

      It's not really Barbara Knox but a body double; it's filmed in long shot so we can't see it's not really her and the body double has their arm raised most of the time so that the handbag obscures any view of their face, but yes it was well done.

    • @LandersWorkshop
      @LandersWorkshop ปีที่แล้ว

      For Coronation Street this was like an ultimate action thriller scene. Most of the other fights and stuff in that era were often tame and obviously fake. The cars screeching, the tram coordination and the final 'wham!' were spot on.

  • @lewiswise7808
    @lewiswise7808 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think Alan Bradley makes a great competitor for Coronation Street's top villains along with Richard Hillman and Pat Phelan; Alan served as an inspiration for both of these and many other corrie villains. I would say though out of all Richard Hillman and Pat Phelan are at the top, closely followed by Alan, and then the others behind him.

    Why is the book containing guests details facing away from the desk? Why is Rita’s room door wood on the outside but painted on the inside, you’d expect both to be the same, or is the bedroom a studio set? Why are there no credits, the original episode has footage of the sea after the freeze frame of Rita/Barbara.

    • @scottpeacock5492

      Zanduck TV2 ,That's a real Hotel room, not Studio Set and any way the reason why their were no end credit is because this was 1989 and ITV Broadcast Coronation Street Omnibus on a Satursday long before ITV2 launched.

    • @7Network
      @7Network  ปีที่แล้ว

      As the description informs when it was recorded it would have been on VHS, and whilst that is of a lower quality then more recent media, it is to show the unusual omnibus ending for those who have such interest

  • @mistofoles
    @mistofoles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They filmed this up the north end of the prom away from the main attractions because it would have been virtually impossible to shoot this scene in the central area with nigh on a million rubber-neckers gawping at the camera and getting in the way.
