At the time this episode was filmed Blackpool Transport had a 100% safety record. When the stunt double ran into the path of the tram the driver kept braking. A member of the production team had to lie down in the cab of the tram and keep the driver’s foot away from the brake.
Imagine the logistics in this...you can't just turn up with a camera crew. Everything has to be pre-arranged, locations scouted and checked for suitability, filming permission sought, contracts signed and fees negotiated with the local council or whoever owns the land. Then you have to hire a driver for the tram, all the roads and other tram tracks have to be closed off during filming, 3 or 4 cameras recording the action simulateanously...all for just a few seconds of screen time !
Not to mention you'd have to rehearse said stunt. You wouldn't turn up willy-nilly at the location and tell the stunt man. "Right, you're going to be hit by that tram, off you go!" Stunt men know the right way to hit moving vehicles, but scenes like this are still dangerous to film, so it'll have been rehearsed somewhere before they filmed it.

I know this was 1989 over 30 years ago now, but I wonder if any member of the public watching this being filmed took any home video on their old video camera or even still photos?, would be interesting to see if any exist, but if they did doubt the person would upload them. With this being a Blackpool with holidaymakers (even on a winter or autumn day) you'd think someone would've managed to snap a few photos. If this was filmed today there would loads of smartphone videos uploaded.

i loved the alternative scene where alan bradley had a t-1000 terminator quality and merely slid through the tram because he is liquid metal and then proceeded to knife rita to death with his sword/knife like stabbing weapon "hands" though i can see why for the sake of public belief they went with this version
You forget 1 detail, the time machine that Skynet uses, alan bradley was a t1000 sent back from 2029 to assassinate Rita. He posed as her abusive husband for years while biding his time to kill her in Blackpool.
Surprised this was as late as it was. In the future, Peugeot will have called two different cars the 308 to avoid people thinking they had the same car as Alan Bradley.
Its a shame that this tram Balloon 710 was withdrawn from service in 2007/08 and sold in 2010. Then moved to Fleetwood in July 2011 for open storage. The sister tram 703 on the left that is stabled is at Beamish Museum now and is in running order and in service too and I drove 703 (Sunderland 101) on a tram driving experience day back in November 2013 and she is not a bad tram to drive like.

Then in the hotel when he mistook Bet for her - "Right you bitch, get outta that bed before I drag you out!" Corrie must have a quota of so many naughty words per episode lol!
I like how they got 710 fully correct, that horn was the actual horn on Blackpool 710. Shame they couldn't get the Flexity 2 correct, (only 3 sections with a T68 horn) or the T68, (2 pantographs and a disappearing driver)

Not very convincing as stunts go but a good storyline all the same. I remember watching this way back in those Corrie days. There's a few characters *cough* Michelle, Carla.Kate,Johnny*cough I wish they'd bring back the tram for today
