I think that Uta is probably jealous of Renji? I mean, he has something hes passionate about and that he fights for and he tries to see the good in life, sure he lost his sister but he has Touka, Ayato, Kaneki, everyone from the crew... and Uta is basically alone, he doesnt really have anyone and is still immature and doesnt want to accept his life for what it is? and I mean sure he has The Clowns, but how much do you think they actually truly care about him? but I could be wrong and sorry if my thoughts are all over the place, he could very well just be in love with Yomo.
I agree. That's why I love this character so much, he has so many layers. I also agree that this kinda aimless life has led him to self-destructive behaviors. Even when he fights (and we know he's VERY strong) most of the time he reacts moderately, like he doesn't care to be hit or worse. It seems to me that he has major problems dealing with loneliness and becoming an adult (a very sensitive one - I am still stunned after seen his kakuja completely out, it reminds me a carnivorous plant. Very peculiar.) knowing very little about himself. So Renji is pretty much all his world.
If you go back to chapter 116 and read what Uta says when he's talking to Donato I believe thats what Uta is referring back to with his last words in this most recent chapter. I as well believe Uta wanted to die or be beat by Yomo
No way Uta is the original OEK after this latest disappointment. I hope this fight isn't over because it doesn't do Uta's character and hype justice AT ALL

I love Uta, but I have been waiting for Renji to finally show what he was truly capable of. The whole series he has seemingly been holding back, not living up to the legend of 'The one equal to Uta." Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the end of the chapter, he pulled out a sort of three bladed winged Kakuja and was even shown to have a mask be covering his mouth. During the fight, Uta even stated that Renji was holding back, and for obvious reasons, Renji did not want to fight Uta at all. But at the very end, Renji seemed to dip back into his 'Raven' persona as the vicious Ghoul from the past, pulled out a Kakuja we all knew he had deep down, and delivered a blast of Lightning that completely decimated Uta. Not to mention it was after a rather destructive kick that impaled Uta's body onto a tall metallic pole, which would only make electricity hurt him more. I don't think Uta is down for good, he fell 'out of the scene' basically. He could easily come back, but this fight was not as one sided as everyone believed. The Lightning Yomo uses isn't a last resort, he used it throughout most of his battles via defensive electromagnetic barriers, to bolts of lightning he used on a multitude of small fry. Mind you his lightning was strong enough to even crack a Quinque of Arima's, something few people have done. Heck, that same Quinque sliced cleanly through Eto's arm while she was in her Kakuja, and Renji blocked that same weapon with his bare arms in base form. Renji has always been just as mysterious to me as Uta, he was someone that you could tell has an issue with his 'cannibalistic' past. Inheriting Yoshimura's will to an extent, he also chose to not use his Kakuja until absolutely necessary (Something you still wouldn't want to risk while starving, or recovering from a throat slice.) Renji earned this win, and finally proved himself as the one Uta acknowledged as his equal.
This last moment with Uta and Yomo is just like 16th tarot card The Tower (The card shows the tower in which the lightning hit, as well as two people who fall down) (This card about revelations). Chapter when Furuta fallen from CCG building with Matsuri was similar and it is then when we reveal that Scarecrow is Hide. Maybe now we'll know about Uta OEK? With all his meaningful tattoos, hinduism references and hints of a one-eyed king, I'm sure Uta won't die. Perhaps he even more going to freak out (hope not). Donato was saying that Uta reckless and Yomo pointed out that Uta don't grow, maybe now we'll see his development.
Sometimes some people have "special" kind of power over us. I feel that Renji had this kind of power over Uta. It doesn't matter how powerful Uta really was if he didn't REALLY intended to hurt Yomo. I really wish Ishida could come back to Uta's character one day. He really deserves much more attention ;)
Uta, as twisted as he is could have won this fight easily if he used his specialties in psychological torture but to him this is just a fun way to play with Yomo and besides Uta never wanted to fatally hurt him. I wonder if Uta ever decided to change his world views after this fight or fall back into his same old routines.

I mean it does its pretty simple, Kaneki wasn't eating, couldn't form his Kakuja properly, couldn't heal properly, couldn't kill, got finessed by 2 perfected Arata suits. Uta got 1 hit by lightning that has only ever been used to 1 hit people. Yomo was getting thrashed the whole fight. In the grand scheme of the story it will probably make sense.
Dresrosa the thing about the kakuja form is it takes a toll on the mind. I mean we’ve seen ken lose it in his centipede form and just attack without thinking. I’m guessing it’s the same with Uta. He was too busy trying to eat Yomo that he didn’t see the strategy he was implementing. What good is immense power if you’re not focusing? But I doubt he’s dead.

a ''riot'' wouldnt do anything tho and you dont own Tokyo Ghoul. We are only the consumers. A riot might shift Ishida in bad light and makes the whole production of the Manga worse. Think about how much Tatara was hyped and how easily and quickly he was dispatched of. Also think about how SSS rate gypsy mother was hyped as the founder of the clowns who used to work in anteiku and how absurdly strong she must be to be SSS rate 51 years old, brought together a group of extremely powerful ghouls and have survived battles with the washuu only for her to be defeated by urie single handedly. I feel like tokyo ghoul is getting rushed. We have these crazy long drawn out fights between quinx members with a lot of backstory and emotional dialogue but then SSS rated Roma gets dispatched pretty underwhelmingly especially since she had help from another ghoul and don't even get me started on Tatara. A gigantic fire breathing ghoul with Chinese roots who has one of the most badass demeanors and character designs gets killed and brushed to the side like a side story only for us to get 3 chapters of Akira mado and takizawa.
this is how i thought uta still wants renji to be his friend according to what they both went through , but he also thinks that renji is perfect and he isn't , he thinks that bcz renji got many friends especially with anteiku , and he got no one except doing masks for them , he thinks that he's useless for everyone so that's why he wanted him to feel some of his pain when he said he will eat him , and i remember he said that he either die or let renji kill him , soo that can be a small clue for his fight with renji , maybe he knew that he'd lose to renji so he wanted to fight just to die ? maybe , but i hope we get something sooner
I have a feeling this will be one of the fights that I am not that big of a fan of while reading when the scanlations comes out. But when its finished in its entirety and I take a look at it again when I have the whole picture I will probably enjoy it alot more
I am actually glad how it ended. Uta showed us his power and domination upon yomo (and I dont think he died). Yomo on the other hand showed his badassery again and defeated a much stronger enemy by using the environment smartly and being lucky. I dont care about amon vs donato fight to begin with so maybe it was dissapointing for you guys but I think it was a cool fight and amon will have his comeback

The Mad Hatter I think you are overestimating kakujas and its not like its the first time a injured nonkakuja guy defeats a kakuja. But the point is yomo "won" because uta got impaled so his bolt could attack right on his inner organs and uta got just paralyzed for a moment in my opinion I dont think its something lethal. Aside of that yomo didnt really go all out in the beginning but if he wouldnt be serious at the end uta would certainly kill him. And kakujas have often the weakness of understimating the opponent
I don't really get the surprise here. It was stated multiple times throughout the story that Uta and Yomo are pretty much equals in terms of strength. Uta has been seen messing around with some tough opponents, namely Hirako and Suzuya, but that's to be expected. Uta is at least an SS ghoul (since Arima judged Yomo to be an SS rank, give or take), meaning it's fair to say he's on par with ghouls like Donato, and Juuzou is no Arima Kishou, that's for sure (Hirako even less, I see him more as a team player, not much as a shining star on his own). The fans seem to have inflated Uta's fighting capabilities so much that they totally disregard what's blatantly put in front of them, and get disappointed when the version of Uta they created in their own head doesn't match with the actual Uta. Yomo has shown himself to be a very smart and strategic fighter (with some inconsistent bits, he goes braindead against Tanakamaru for instance). His kagune isn't very powerful on its own, so he knows how to make full use of his environment to maximize his capabilities. I'm also having a hard time understanding the ''He used lightning again'' complaint. Lightning is all he has outside of his physical strength.What the hell is he expected to do otherwise? Defeating a Kakuja with his fists? On that note, it's clear as day Uta isn't dead. Assuming that is just bollocks (depending on the height from which he fell, him not dying wouldn't make much sense either, now that I think about it).I don't see him getting back up and having a go at Yomo again either. Next chapter will probably be more dialogue/development focused on that side. But, even if Uta was to get back up, I think it would be very unfair to outlook the fact that Yomo can most likely pull off a Kakuja form of his own. He was stated to cannibalize a fair bit during his time in the 4th ward (which caught Uta's attention), so him being able to form a half/full Kakuja is very likely. The only thing that might render this possibility...well...impossible (my english), is Yomo not using it against Arima of all people. Then again, one could also argue that all his encounters with the reaper were cut short by either Kuzen or Haise. *Or Uta could be the next Tatara*
maybe he's not using his head against arima.. i mean he's blinded by rage and all that sudden burst of emotions (whatever) when he met him.. and that like uta, didnt think well enough when fighting.. just my opinion.
I was waiting for that bell icon to ring.. I really hope that Ichida gives us at some point a good explanation for the whole Donato's shadow clones and Renji's chidori because it feels out of place, at least for me. I'm missing the "liquid muscles" thing from the original TG.. Remember when we first got introduced to Amon, the white knight of justice, that let half-kakuja Kaneki escape in cochlea, probably out of pity? I find him the most pitiful character in TG right now, heck even Tomoe got to pity him now
The ending of this fight between Uta and Yomo parallels a lot to Kaneki's fight with Juuzou and Hanbee I feel like. I think that if Uta was truly the original OEK then this would a pretty prime opportunity for him to bust out the Naga Serpent as he is right on the brink of death the same way that Kaneki burst into Dragon at the last second after being defeated by Juuzou. Can you imagine having a full on battle between Uta as the Naga Serpent vs. Yomo, Amon, and Takizawa all potentially in full Kakuja forms? Very curious to see where Ishida goes from here....
I totally agree with Uta being deminished in his fight with Renji. Uta goes full on monster and is all about wipping out Renji, and in the end he loses the fight and they are best of budies like old times, it's not consistent/it doens't make sense with how the fight starts...
I'm happy about the Uta Vs. Yomo fight, but I'm also not happy. Actually this might be an unpopular opinion, but I haven't been enjoying the direction of Tokyo Ghoul for about the last 20(ish) chapters.

Not just 20 chapters, been a few arcs already in my opinion. The last good TG chapters were in the Rose Arc and few from the Cochlea ones but after that, the pacing went bad, storytelling became convoluted and feels anti-climatic most of the time. The satisfaction is just not there. Back then honestly, TG's quite simple with its mechanics about humans, ghouls, survival, psychology and etc. but these past few arcs felt too overboard with things. Parallels are there simply for the shock factor instead of actually good storytelling. Lots of character feels like underdeveloped and underplayed (one of the causes are the large casts of characters). TG for the past few arcs felt so different. There's definitely a dip in the quality for these past few arcs. How can you even explain the One-Eyed King personality of Kaneki? It honestly feels out of character for Kaneki to act that way. Not referring to the part where he actually wants to live but basically, every tragedy happened these past few arcs due to his stupidity. Him not killing Furuta and Hajime accounted for lots of destruction. Kaneki might be indecisive at times but he's not this stupid as portrayed these past few arcs.
Yomo had a kakuja activated when he lighting bolted him and he had the electricity rod and we know uta and renji were rivals so if we assume that renji is no longer starved unlike the mutisuki fight, renji with a kakuja like form with a full power bolt plus electricity rod it makes sense
Honestly I think Donato is the original One eyed king. He obviously has two ghoul eyes but his power is nothing to scoff at, compared to Kaneki, He's a total mystery, his Kagune is literal crosses. Either he can shape shift his kagune like Saiko or he's an absolute mystery who disobeys ghoul logic

I see mirrors of yomos last fight with mutsuki and aura him using environment like water or in this case a lightening Rod..I mean Uta was seriously about to eat yomo and fairly easily at that..Uta has been an enigma this whole series so if he truly is gone I'd be very upset but i feel like uta being diminished isnt the case YET and a big YETI on that one. I think that Uta is not Dead but is KO. Also Uta is a Rinkaku Ghoul so he has an insane regen. Also his kakuja seemes like a Half Kakuja but he looks sane so i'm confused. Also he can eat from his kakuja and also i wonder why Uta wasn't using is Face Change ability and clones like Donato. I think that Uta is more powerful. Yomo doesn't have a Kakuja and when they were Young Uta wasn't a kakuja BUT Yomo has an insane Kagune and he out-smarted Uta by fucking trowing a thunderbolt and trowing him from the roof. Yomo played smartly. Also Yomo knows his flaws. Yomo uses is Kagune only when he struggles because he knows that he has low stamina because he is a Ukaku

With kakuja, Uta should have heightened senses even to avoid attacks and even anticipate this trick of Renji PLUS he knows Renji so well (which would of course includes his fighting style) and yet falls for the tricks. Everlasting Thickness A Kakuja makes a Ghoul physically stronger and in most cases faster and Half-Kakuja‘s do the same but when Half-Ghouls use their Half-Kakuja they will go complete berserk

Everyone is judging yomo's strength from the fight between him and mutsuki. Yeah we know he sucks at it but in the past he faced CCG shinigami (Arima) also Uta . They both were same lvl(uta and renji). But I don't know why people think Uta is very strong? He and Renji was same lvl also we didn't see any fights regarding Uta. There is a myth Don't judge a book by it's cover . So Don't judge Uta's strength by his looks
I think our hype was a bit too overwhelming. Ishida subverted the fuck out of it with the chapter, but I'm not bothered by it. I still think ishida has plans for Hess characters so I'd say don't judge The situation so hard based on this chapter. I also enjoyed Utas kagune. I don't feel like it's his true kakuja though, idk something just doesn't spell "final" about the form. But All in all there's definitely some consistencies that were tweak in this chapter. I just think we haven't gotten as much with Uta and now that we are it doesn't reflect what we as an audience have come to "expect" of Utas prowess. Still think he'll be fine though. Also get sum sleeps mate if you need it👌🏾

a ''riot'' wouldnt do anything tho and you dont own Tokyo Ghoul. We are only the consumers. A riot might shift Ishida in bad light and makes the whole production of the Manga worse. Its his story and after all its only his right to decide what happens. I love those characters but a ''riot'' changes nothing. Overall, its just a character in a novel. So dont take it too serious.

tokyo ghoul is dead
Think about how much Tatara was hyped and how easily and quickly he was dispatched of. Also think about how SSS rate gypsy mother was hyped as the founder of the clowns who used to work in anteiku and how absurdly strong she must be to be SSS rate 51 years old, brought together a group of extremely powerful ghouls and have survived battles with the washuu only for her to be defeated by urie single handedly. I feel like tokyo ghoul is getting rushed. We have these crazy long drawn out fights between quinx members with a lot of backstory and emotional dialogue but then SSS rated Roma gets dispatched pretty underwhelmingly especially since she had help from another ghoul and don't even get me started on Tatara. A gigantic fire breathing ghoul with Chinese roots who has one of the most badass demeanors and character designs gets killed and brushed to the side like a side story only for us to get 3 chapters of Akira mado and takizawa.

uta still wants renji to be his friend according to what they both went through , but he also thinks that renji is perfect and he isn't , he thinks that bcz renji got many friends especially with anteiku , and he got no one except doing masks for them , he thinks that he's useless for everyone so that's why he wanted him to feel some of his pain when he said he will eat him , and i remember he said that he either die or let renji kill him , soo that can be a small clue for his fight with renji , maybe he knew that he'd lose to renji so he wanted to fight just to die ? maybe , but i hope we get something sooner

I have a feeling this will be one of the fights that I am not that big of a fan of while reading when the scanlations comes out. But when its finished in its entirety and I take a look at it again when I have the whole picture I will probably enjoy it alot more

I am actually glad how it ended. Uta showed us his power and domination upon yomo (and I dont think he died). Yomo on the other hand showed his badassery again and defeated a much stronger enemy by using the environment smartly and being lucky.
I dont care about amon vs donato fight to begin with so maybe it was dissapointing for you guys but I think it was a cool fight and amon will have his comeback

The Mad Hatter I think you are overestimating kakujas and its not like its the first time a injured nonkakuja guy defeats a kakuja. But the point is yomo "won" because uta got impaled so his bolt could attack right on his inner organs and uta got just paralyzed for a moment in my opinion I dont think its something lethal. Aside of that yomo didnt really go all out in the beginning but if he wouldnt be serious at the end uta would certainly kill him. And kakujas have often the weakness of understimating the opponent

I don't really get the surprise here. It was stated multiple times throughout the story that Uta and Yomo are pretty much equals in terms of strength. Uta has been seen messing around with some tough opponents, namely Hirako and Suzuya, but that's to be expected. Uta is at least an SS ghoul (since Arima judged Yomo to be an SS rank, give or take), meaning it's fair to say he's on par with ghouls like Donato, and Juuzou is no Arima Kishou, that's for sure (Hirako even less, I see him more as a team player, not much as a shining star on his own).
The fans seem to have inflated Uta's fighting capabilities so much that they totally disregard what's blatantly put in front of them, and get disappointed when the version of Uta they created in their own head doesn't match with the actual Uta. Yomo has shown himself to be a very smart and strategic fighter (with some inconsistent bits, he goes braindead against Tanakamaru for instance). His kagune isn't very powerful on its own, so he knows how to make full use of his environment to maximize his capabilities. I'm also having a hard time understanding the ''He used lightning again'' complaint. Lightning is all he has outside of his physical strength.What the hell is he expected to do otherwise? Defeating a Kakuja with his fists?
On that note, it's clear as day Uta isn't dead. Assuming that is just bollocks (depending on the height from which he fell, him not dying wouldn't make much sense either, now that I think about it).I don't see him getting back up and having a go at Yomo again either. Next chapter will probably be more dialogue/development focused on that side. But, even if Uta was to get back up, I think it would be very unfair to outlook the fact that Yomo can most likely pull off a Kakuja form of his own. He was stated to cannibalize a fair bit during his time in the 4th ward (which caught Uta's attention), so him being able to form a half/full Kakuja is very likely. The only thing that might render this possibility...well...impossible (my english), is Yomo not using it against Arima of all people. Then again, one could also argue that all his encounters with the reaper were cut short by either Kuzen or Haise.

Remember when we first got introduced to Amon, the white knight of justice, that let half-kakuja Kaneki escape in cochlea, probably out of pity? I find him the most pitiful character in TG right now, heck even Tomoe got to pity him now

The ending of this fight between Uta and Yomo parallels a lot to Kaneki's fight with Juuzou and Hanbee I feel like. I think that if Uta was truly the original OEK then this would a pretty prime opportunity for him to bust out the Naga Serpent as he is right on the brink of death the same way that Kaneki burst into Dragon at the last second after being defeated by Juuzou. Can you imagine having a full on battle between Uta as the Naga Serpent vs. Yomo, Amon, and Takizawa all potentially in full Kakuja forms? Very curious to see where Ishida goes from here....
I totally agree with Uta being deminished in his fight with Renji. Uta goes full on monster and is all about wipping out Renji, and in the end he loses the fight and they are best of budies like old times, it's not consistent/it doens't make sense with how the fight starts...
I'm happy about the Uta Vs. Yomo fight, but I'm also not happy. Actually this might be an unpopular opinion, but I haven't been enjoying the direction of Tokyo Ghoul for about the last 20(ish) chapters.

The Mad Hatter, Yeah in not liking that. Now it's starting to feel less like Tokyo Ghoul. I wish he could just stick with something and not having to add these plot twist that ends up making the characters feel like they're being used for a shock.
Not just 20 chapters, been a few arcs already in my opinion. The last good TG chapters were in the Rose Arc and few from the Cochlea ones but after that, the pacing went bad, storytelling became convoluted and feels anti-climatic most of the time. The satisfaction is just not there.
Back then honestly, TG's quite simple with its mechanics about humans, ghouls, survival, psychology and etc. but these past few arcs felt too overboard with things. Parallels are there simply for the shock factor instead of actually good storytelling. Lots of character feels like underdeveloped and underplayed (one of the causes are the large casts of characters). TG for the past few arcs felt so different. There's definitely a dip in the quality for these past few arcs.
How can you even explain the One-Eyed King personality of Kaneki? It honestly feels out of character for Kaneki to act that way. Not referring to the part where he actually wants to live but basically, every tragedy happened these past few arcs due to his stupidity. Him not killing Furuta and Hajime accounted for lots of destruction. Kaneki might be indecisive at times but he's not this stupid as portrayed these past few arcs.

Yomo had a kakuja activated when he lighting bolted him and he had the electricity rod and we know uta and renji were rivals so if we assume that renji is no longer starved unlike the mutisuki fight, renji with a kakuja like form with a full power bolt plus electricity rod it makes sense

Honestly I think Donato is the original One eyed king. He obviously has two ghoul eyes but his power is nothing to scoff at, compared to Kaneki, He's a total mystery, his Kagune is literal crosses. Either he can shape shift his kagune like Saiko or he's an absolute mystery who disobeys ghoul logic

I see mirrors of yomos last fight with mutsuki and aura him using environment like water or in this case a lightening Rod..I mean Uta was seriously about to eat yomo and fairly easily at that..Uta has been an enigma this whole series so if he truly is gone I'd be very upset but i feel like uta being diminished isnt the case YET and a big YETI on that one. I thougut the same thing of Donato but look, he back. Uta hopefully will come back to end his story in better taste

I think that Uta is not Dead but is KO. Also Uta is a Rinkaku Ghoul so he has an insane regen. Also his kakuja seemes like a Half Kakuja but he looks sane so i'm confused. Also he can eat from his kakuja and also i wonder why Uta wasn't using is Face Change ability and clones like Donato. I think that Uta is more powerful. Yomo doesn't have a Kakuja and when they were Young Uta wasn't a kakuja BUT Yomo has an insane Kagune and he out-smarted Uta by fucking trowing a thunderbolt and trowing him from the roof. Yomo played smartly. Also Yomo knows his flaws. Yomo uses is Kagune only when he struggles because he knows that he has low stamina because he is a Ukaku

With kakuja, Uta should have heightened senses even to avoid attacks and even anticipate this trick of Renji PLUS he knows Renji so well (which would of course includes his fighting style) and yet falls for the tricks. Everlasting Thickness A Kakuja makes a Ghoul physically stronger and in most cases faster and Half-Kakuja‘s do the same but when Half-Ghouls use their Half-Kakuja they will go complete berserk

Everyone is judging yomo's strength from the fight between him and mutsuki. Yeah we know he sucks at it but in the past he faced CCG shinigami (Arima) also Uta . They both were same lvl(uta and renji). But I don't know why people think Uta is very strong? He and Renji was same lvl also we didn't see any fights regarding Uta. There is a myth Don't judge a book by it's cover . So Don't judge Uta's strength by his looks

I think our hype was a bit too overwhelming.
Ishida subverted the fuck out of it with the chapter, but I'm not bothered by it. I still think ishida has plans for Hess characters so I'd say don't judge The situation so hard based on this chapter.
I also enjoyed Utas kagune. I don't feel like it's his true kakuja though, idk something just doesn't spell "final" about the form.
But All in all there's definitely some consistencies that were tweak in this chapter. I just think we haven't gotten as much with Uta and now that we are it doesn't reflect what we as an audience have come to "expect" of Utas prowess.
Still think he'll be fine though.
