Dresrosa thanks to the last chapter, Furuta is feeling a bit more "human" to say the least, he's still a crazy troll who has done many wrongs just to get his way but I have to give props to Ishida for making me care a bit more for the guy and hopefully we get even more insights and development on Furuta!
By dropping the steel beams on Rize and setting the stage for the events in Ken’s life, Furuta gave Ken the one thing he seemed to always want: a wife and child. In short he trolled even himself. How’s that for tragedy?
I honestly felt bad for that man I hope he pulls thru what ever attacked him and maybe he can see the era in his ways Ik it’s so much more to him as we saw in this chapter
I could totally see a scene where Rize makes her appearance in full glory and everything, while Furuta tries to be all humble to her and just let's out all of his feelings for her and the terrible things he's done just to make a place where Rize would like and enjoy, a place where she isn't a slave to the Washuu clan's legacy, while he unburdens everything to her, Rize will just laugh at how pathetic he's become for her and trash talk Furuta to near death before eventually ending him herself. (which would probably be Ishida's way of connecting Furuta with the readers) This is all just speculation and I would really not want the actual chapters to go down like this, I'm just saying I could see something like this happening.

Medium expectation is probably how you should been feel when it comes to the characters, ishida doesn’t need to have everything all solved. Ishida isn’t gonna do everything that we want and he doesn’t have to, this whole story isn’t gonna go the way we wish. And furuta is like kaneki representing that life is gonna be crappy. In this series we are not gonna get everything we want and honestly I’m ok with that. Also we don’t know if this is the end of the whole series of Tokyo ghoul we could still get a part 3 depending completely on the hoe the last chapter of re is. Furuta is interesting because he’s not like how most other villains are sometimes written. Ps. This just my opinion so no one bite my head off. Lol
It doesn't seem to me that information is being suddenly dumped here. It's been sprinkled throughout the story that there's far more to Furuta. Him saying he helped Rize because he loved her, and then that he wanted to keep her close in chapter 101 of re: "Rize, even a long time ago, was still very dear to me", "When I was younger I used to dream of one day marrying her." That "the very thought" of Rize getting pregnant while enjoying the freedom he gained for her kept him " up at night" That one page with him Rize and the kids in the most recent chapter shows this, he is seeing his dream of marrying her. The flashback where he asks Rize about whether or not she was also bred (chapter 66 of re) How Furuta reacted to the comment Eto made about his father. (also chapter 66 of re) All of those things made it seem as if there was something tragic behind the character of Furuta; Ishida's gave us glimpses that there is far more to him. It seems that it's purposeful and Ishida is just elaborating on points now that he had established earlier on in re: to properly develop Furuta. Hell even the quote "I mean, I've got this precious life and everything; might as well make the best of it, right?" Truly links well with the flashback we were shown in the most recent chapter...It all perfectly ties together.
I don't see any problem with it. Some may not like that kind of writing style but actually that has been Ishida's writing style since the beginning. Think back - Revelation of Mutsuki's past after carefully placing hints at different points of the story. Something that came out of no where like - Arima's kindness, Eto having good goal, Torso's sorry life. Maybe this was a bad choice for a character who was supposed to be the main villain but I don't see a problem with it. Actually I would hate a chapter full of flashback but I would like the next chapter if its first part shows Furuta's past from his perspective providing us with a reason for his hatred and then have Furuta gather last bit of his strength to fight Kaneki only to go out in style and in the next chapter before dying Furuta reveals his end goal telling Kaneki that it has already been too late now that his Dragon is complete there is nothing Kaneki can do now. Why would he reveal his plans ? Maybe he goes out like Light Yagami. I think it would be a fitting end for the story's mastermind.

He will not die oneshotted like that. He will atleast say or do something that will change anything or he will just Escape. Onestly I Don't have any feelings about his Story. I Think that various characters are just better because they actually have fucking development. This guy jumped in the story and changed anything out of nowhere. I just can't feel compassion because he just takes from others whitout losing everything. He deserve to die.

I disagree with the part about Furuta being wasted potential. I think he is a top 3 character in TG, both written and enjoyment wise.
