This is why I trust Catalinbread for effects. If the chief designer plays like this, then you know they know their way in and out of sound/tone vs. some electrical engineer geeks that strum g chords.
HaveYouSeenMe You’re missing the salient point of the reply to which you’ve responded. It is this: Leo Fender wasn’t a guitar player. He did not play the instrument. It was not necessary that he know how to play guitar. Effective communication with musicians was essential while playing ability was demonstrably inessential and ultimately unnecessary. Leo didn’t simply invent products from whole cloth and move on to the next project. He refined continuously based on musicians’ wants and needs.
Dudes, this is killer. The tone and chops are spot on. I also have to say hats off to the drummer. I know this is a fairly simple song, but he really captured Bonham's nuances.
Ive always thought of Pages live playing as perfectly imperfect. As such, recreating his style is incredibly difficult to say the least. I daresay youve managed to pull it off remarkably well. If I only heard the audio I would believe it was indeed Jimmy at work here. I cant tell you how many times Ive watched this. Ive been coming back to this for months now. You are truly talented. Your 4th of July Star Spangled Banner is no less triumphant.
brian patrick I can tell it's not page simply because it's so perfect. The thing is with page is his right hand moves faster than his left hand frequently during faster solos. I used to want to be like page, but now I would rather be a Howard :P
Because he played at the edge of his ability. You can't copy that... because when you play at the edge of your ability it will be different. It's ingenious really.
Fanfuckintastic dude. As a 65 year old guy that saw them live at MSG in 1972 I really appreciate your tribute to the guy that made me search for a Les Paul when I was 19 to achieve that sound!
The thing I love about this cover the most is the fact he isn't covering the song perfectly note for note. He's improvising, exactly what page did during concerts.
My friends, there are people who play guitar, and then there are people who PLAY THE GUITAR! Howard belongs to the latter camp. I really love the tone he is getting on this, and he absolutely nails that track. That lick he plays starting at 3:28 is just sic, and sorry Howard, but I will have to nick that one from you. the RAH is on my hit list now, and I really look forward to owning it, and the tone it is going to get for me. Great job Howard, you really do RAWK brother!
Awesome video! I'm the proud owner of the DLS as of today and I can't thank y'all enough, such an amazing pedal...I can tell you've put your heart & soul into it. I'm forever a Catalinbread fan, looking forward to adding more in the future. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication.
+Drew Hammond Wow! Thank you for your support! We do pour everything we have into our pedals. The designers, builders, testers, customer support...everyone. Thanks for your comment :)
A few years ago I was looking for a good video of Zeppelin playing this song live and I came across this video not realizing it was a pedal demo. After hearing the pedal I immediately ordered one and though I traded it in favor of the DLS (which just worked better for my amp) I now own other Catalinbread pedals and think of them as one of the best in the business. I still come to watch this cover though. It is so good. Great playing.
Please make a Jimmy Page early 70's KT88 Marshall ala Madison Square Gardens (MSG) or (SRTS) inspired pedal now… and I'll die happy! You can have that idea free if you send me a pedal when you're done ;) Cheers Charlie
I love Jimmy Page, and I love Zeppelin, but what sold me on this pedal was this series of videos! It is just so inspirational, and I love how this dude plays (I think he is the head designer at Catalibread). After hearing it here, whether or not I can sound like that, I just simply had to buy it. Excellent work!
I know this is a guitar pedal demo, and the guitar playing and tone is stellar. But I am also a huge Bonham fan, and kudos to the drummer. He absolutely killed it!
Umm.... I know his playing is very very incredible which always helps, but this may be the best sounding pedal I've ever heard. It's absolutely perfect!
I bought one of these after seeing this demo, and I love it. It was expensive, but nothing compared to buying/building a modified Hiwatt. I've thrown this pedal in front of Fender tube amps, big and little Marshalls, vintage Silvertones, even my old Crate 20 watt solid state practice amp, and I can always dial in a very convincing Royal Albert Hall Jimmy Page tone. I know this sounds backwards, but my lower output PAF clones do a better job with this sound than the higher output set. My LP Junior is also a very good match for this tone despite the one single coil P90. Awesome tone, awesome video!
Why would anyone give this performance or this pedal the thumbs down? Incredible. And yes, I think a poster earlier nailed it, if I spent more time practicing, and less time chasing tones.... :)
The Catalinbread Echorec IS that pedal and it is an un-replaceable pedal on my board because I have found nothing quite as texturally thick and wet and gooey it's just uniquely great. It's not for every use but when it is appropriate, it is an absolute 100th anniversary game 7 last out last strike grand slam to win the World Series home run. IMHO. And yeah, you will hear it and hear so many Pink Floyd and Pompeii tones, you will just smile and grin and ask how much.
Those huge chords @ 3:55 is reason enough to buy this pedal!!!! Howard you're fantastic- might just be the best tones I've EVER heard from a Les Paul. SOLD! Keep rockin dude-
Massive overtones......Howard's fingers get a lot of the credit, but drawing those sounds out a Vibrolux Reverb is damn-near impossible. I am extremely impressed by this pedal.
I believe Mr. Page would be honored by this, both in tone and in performance. I've all but given up the Les Paul for Strat and wonder if the RAH would still be worth a go?
Wow! Just... wow! Amazing playing and tone replication, and that's a beautiful Gibson LP too! I'll have to look into this pedal, but I'm not quite sure what this overdrive pedal does that makes it different from many other overdrive pedals out there that also have good dynamic range and clean up nicely when the guitar volume is lowered. But I do trust Catalinbread to make great pedals.
I just got a '68 Super Reverb and picked up a Dirty Little Secret with it. First it sounded like it was probably made for the amp, and sounded just like playing into a cranked Plexi with a Dallas Rangemaster. Very smooth and natural sounding, unlike any pedal I've ever used. This sounds just as amazing.
You can tell this is a labor of love. I don't buy many pedals but it seems these guys are on a mission worth supporting. US built too! Our orange leader would be proud! (.: Now I just need the Jimmy Page and Tony Iomi guitar skills! BTW superb playing. I will add this channel so watch these great performancesL
Just received the pedal…. Howard Gee is a fucking genius designer… Ive never played a finer pedal… Im selling my OCD.. don't need it now this was the sound I have been chasing but could never capture… just guitar/comp-sus/RAH/Lonestar run in an ABY with my Blues Jr … just magic! Thanks guys Im thinking of giving your Ampeg pedal a shot next....
This is why I trust Catalinbread for effects. If the chief designer plays like this, then you know they know their way in and out of sound/tone vs. some electrical engineer geeks that strum g chords.
Absolutely agree
AxDxM has
i get what youre saying, but at the same time leo fender didn't play guitar, and created some of the greatest guitars and amps ever made.
Alec Morgan he WAS an amps and electronics guy, just not a guitar wiz

wow. you literally just nailed it. never seen anyone imitate Jimmy's playing this well.
Dudes, this is killer. The tone and chops are spot on. I also have to say hats off to the drummer. I know this is a fairly simple song, but he really captured Bonham's nuances.

Drew Taks I personally lived him live listen to them in 1969-1973 he was a monster
Drew Taks specifically check out the sep 19 1970 show in New York they were firing on all cylinders one of my fav shows ever
Have always thought the same, perfect imperfect,, and when he gets going you forget it and go along for the ride
SImply the best musical product demo video on TH-cam
Fanfuckintastic dude. As a 65 year old guy that saw them live at MSG in 1972 I really appreciate your tribute to the guy that made me search for a Les Paul when I was 19 to achieve that sound!
That gave me goosebumps..your phrasing, tone, everything.. wow.. creepy. Amazing..
Between creating the pedal and then taking us all to school with it, this is really a fine piece of work. Thanks Howard!
The thing I love about this cover the most is the fact he isn't covering the song perfectly note for note. He's improvising, exactly what page did during concerts.
still the best "demo" ever
The playing here is just stunning, and that pedal is damn near perfect for matching the sound. Great video!!
I wish i could like this every one of the 20 times ive listened to it.
My friends, there are people who play guitar, and then there are people who PLAY THE GUITAR! Howard belongs to the latter camp. I don't even have words for what I just saw and heard right here, all I can say is THANK YOU FOR SHARING !
+IOMMIFAN6565 Excellant name dude!

Still so good, all these years later

Nemo Alicunde Yes, the RAH is amazing, and Howard's a good player I guess :p
+Catalinbread Mechanisms of Music Howard is a fucking devil.
very impressed with both playing and pedal. I don't always watch to the very end but this video had to be watched all the way.
+William budd Thank you for watching and commenting :)
Please make a Jimmy Page early 70's KT88 Marshall ala Madison Square Gardens (MSG) or (SRTS) inspired pedal now… and I'll die happy! You can have that idea free if you send me a pedal when you're done ;)

When he switched to the bridge pickup, I lost my shit. That tone is so great.
Well, if this video wont sell people on this pedal I don't know what will. Deadly accurate tone. Very impressive playing and pedal. I'm buying one. :)
Umm.... I know his playing is very very incredible which always helps, but this may be the best sounding pedal I've ever heard. It's absolutely perfect!
Glad somebody caught this!
I'd also buy an album of your covers Howard.
Thank you for filming this. Especially his beautiful feel on the guitar. What a truly wonderful guitar player.
This guys fingers, that guitar, the pedal and those amps...fucking killer, man!
I just keep coming back to this video over and over, Damn Howard you are incredible!!!!!!!!
Simply amazing. Great guitar and drums. Clean and crisp like a clear fall day
Nailed the tone and vibe!
Bloody brilliant, nailed that iconic sound, lost for words, awesome.
I bought one of these after seeing this demo, and I love it. It was expensive, but nothing compared to buying/building a modified Hiwatt. This pedal is fantastic. Howard could you please do a Live at Pompeii based pedal?
ThePinkFloydOdyssey GravityMusicLA I know this is an old comment - but this would be incredible!
I would LOVE that! Those tones are just EPIC!
The Catalinbread Echorec IS that pedal and it is an un-replaceable pedal on my board because I have found nothing quite as texturally thick and wet and gooey it's just uniquely great. @@lynyrddeville could you tell what kind of settings do you set up for pompeii’s songs? Recently I have bought echorec… And it’s amazing for sure!
Amazing playing!!
Ridiculously accurate tone, fantastic playing.
Fantastic!
Can Catalinbread make a pedal that makes my voice sound like Robert Plant?
You can sound like robert plant by trying to sound like steve marriot, that’s how he did it at first!
I'm in awe of the tone and the playing skill demonstrated in this video. Seeing this reminds me just how brilliant Jimmy Page's solos are.
My thoughts exactly!
So.... Just to be clear... He is playing the RAH through a VIBROLUX REVERB here?
love your playing Howard as always, brilliant. Great pedal
Still watching this in 2018 and it's still just as awesome!
Great playing Howard! And thank you for creating the best pedal of all time! I have spent years trying to capture Page's tone.
OUTSTANDING
That came out beautiful! U guys nailed it!
A Freaky, Beasty way to create a pedal effect !!!! Magnificent !!!! Great video , great products 😉
Thank you Howard, that was awesome. Respect.
After seeing this demo of this pedal, I decided to watch more of your demos. You guys will be my first stop when looking for pedals!
Try JHS pedals… the Unicorn (Univibe style) is fantastic so is the Charlie Brown .. also Dwarfcraft makes fucking awesome pedals too.
Love your pedals... all the concepts... really awesome... and your playing isn't too bad either haha... THIS WAS GREAT, spot on JIMMY
I believe Mr. Page would be honored by this, both in tone and in performance. I've all but given up the Les Paul for Strat and wonder if the RAH would still be worth a go?
Wown.. I loved it!.. This is the best song ever of the best band ever!! There are still many other good bands, but only Zeppelin is Zeppelin!!
That RAH is amazing!!! Great drums tone too!!
Sold !! Absolutely brilliant. Great jam boys

I think even Jimmy would like this! Incredibly done!
not only an awesome sound, but a truly fabulous performance! by all the musicians
Incredible demo
Came for the pedal, stayed for the playing. Out of this world. At present 54 dislikes, I’d love to know what you dislike about this, what ?
From 1:06 - geez! when that kicks in it's a dead ringer for the Page tone. Great demo!!!
Very inspiring jam. Howard you are a legend.
Master level player
Absolutely awesome and spot on!!
aaaaaand I’m still watching this
I am getting this pedal. You nailed it brother, JP would be proud!
Holy Craptastic Batman!!! Talk about nailing an Iconic tone 100%!!! Wicked job!!!!
Needs more squeaky bass drum pedal.
wayfaerer320 lol U say that in every video
Timidater I think you just missed the whole meaning of the original comment.
raze101 don't really care what you think!
Part of the charm, I wish new music would go for that raw sound and have detail like that.
speed king all the way
BEAUTIFUL JOB LADS!
I noticed the slide into as well. It kinda makes the whole mood.
Tasty playing and a great sounding pedal.
That was just awesome! Need to take one of these out for a test drive sometime!
Wow! Just... wow! Amazing playing and tone replication, and that's a beautiful Gibson LP too! I'll have to look into this pedal, but I'm not quite sure what this overdrive pedal does that makes it different from many other overdrive pedals out there that also have good dynamic range and clean up nicely when the guitar volume is lowered. that was amazing dude
Fantastic playing. You guys nailed the sound
Great playing and tone. That's a beautiful Les Paul too, really dark rosewood. I love fretboards like that.
Good Lord, your demo videos are amazing...
You guyz are Killer... pure tribute...waouw !!!
I have this one. Awesome tone!!!
I just got a '68 Super Reverb and picked up a Dirty Little Secret with it. Very smooth and natural sounding, unlike any pedal I've ever used. This sounds just as amazing.
